So not only am I overweight now and will gain more weight after my hysterectomy but yet again will gain even more after menopause. Just shoot me now.

I had a hysterectomy just over 2 years ago. I wish to God I would have never had to get this done. I had to because of very bad reoccurring fibroids that at one point caused me so much pain I had to get an abdominal myomectomy. I was hoping the fibroids weren't gonna come back and sure enough they came back a few years later. That's why I had to get a hysterectomy. It's been absolutely horrible ever since I literally gained 30lbs in two years in 2years. I had under active thyroid before and I still do. But things are just so out of whack right now and the one thing that really upsets me. Is the doctor that performed my surgery didn't say anything about having weight gain issues even with leaving ovaries. After doing my own research I've found it's quite the opposite plenty of women that left their ovaries have gained a massive amount of weight as well in a very short period of time. I would seriously advise any woman looking to get a hysterectomy don't do it unless it's absolutely necessary do not do it. And yes it does change sexual stuff as well. I weighed 155 before this disaster now 185. Very upsetting.

Yes, I'm so sorry you're struggling!! This is really tough. I work with a lot of women in super similar situations as yours, let me know if you'd be interested in getting to the root cause and helping support your body after such a major event like a hysterectomy.

@@DrBethWestie thank you very much for you response. I will reach back out for sure it needed. I actually did blood work last week to have my stress Cortisol and my hormone levels checked. So I am currently waiting to get my results. I am not really happy with the doctors where I currently lives so I might be reaching back out to you. I just want to feel better instead of pure fatigue, exhaustion and so tired all the time and brain fog. Thank you. 🙂

@samiya shad I am so sorry. I just like to be very honest and up front because unfortunately a lot of ladies are not aware of the realities because the doctors aren't always up front and don't tell them everything.

I'm right behind you. I had my hysterectomy on June 22 start to bleed heavy on June 23 had to have another surgery to fix the vagina cuff. 2 weeks passed I bled out like crazy while losing blood clots and had to be rush to the ER. I never had high blood pressure in my life and now I am tackling that as while as numerous other things and Weight! I went from 145lbs to 165lb and I'm depressed and stressed it's awful. If I had a choice to go back where I started I would just lived in pain with the enlarged uterus with fibroids and the heavy periods. Not to mention I am still having trouble with my vaginal cuff and have to see a second doctor for a second opinion on that. I'm just over everything right now. Btw ovaries was left behind!!!! Smh

I had a myomectomy to remove 39 fibroids and they came back so had an abdominal hysterectomy 6+ years later (still have my ovaries) due to 30+ growing fibroids, I didn't see the point in having another myomectomy when they'd probably come back again. I was active pre surgeries and and ran 3x per week and lifted weights 3x per week. I have been intermittent fasting for years so I no longer crave sweet stuff. I also removed processed sugars from my diet prior to both surgeries and continue this lifestyle, I still have the occasional chocolate or whatever I fancy just not all the time. I listened to my body and slowing built back up to my pre surgery workouts once cleared to exercise and have not gained a single pound following my hysterectomy, in fact I lost significant weight and am now at my goal weight. After first surgery I lost 10 lbs due to the fibroids I was carrying and lost 15 lbs with my hysterectomy, these things can weigh a lot! I say all this to encourage women not to fear putting on weight after your hysterectomy, a lot depends on genetics and diet and lifestyle. These fibroids can cause some serious issues and if you need or want the surgery don't let fear stop you. I am glad I had a hysterectomy I have been set free from my symptoms and my stomach is nice & flat, I only wish I had the surgery the first time around. Please be encouraged that not all women will gain weight.

I had to have a total hysterectomy almost 2 years ago due to a massive ovarian mass that had meshed with my uterus. I was 145 lbs (5'6") and am now 165 lbs. Never in my life did I struggle with weight issues. The numbers on the scale keep creeping up and my doctor tells me to exercise and watch my portions. I have tried intermittent fasting, and exercising (both aerobic and anaerobic), and still gaining weight. I don't know what else to do... The struggle is real.

As a trans person, I'm gonna have an hysterectomy soon (not total) and I'm on testosterone. Am I going to gain weight ? So far, testosterone helped me loose weight. I'm stable at 45kg rn (I'm short so this is normal weight for me) and I hope testosterone will keep me from gaining weight. Obviously I'll get an appointment with my doctor forst.

I went to my doctor complained asked to check my hormones and he said there’s no way to check it and that my medication is just hit or miss so trial and error to see what’s going to work best for me I had a full hysterectomy at the age of 27 because of severe complications. I’m the heaviest I ever been in my life and no one will listen to me and my problems I practically starve myself just to gain even more weight so it’s very upsetting and depressing. I had enough and I’m looking into WLS some research suggest that gastric sleeve might help to reset my hormones.

I’ve been 110lbs all of my life. I only gained 5lbs when pregnant with all 3 of children( that could be because I get hyperemesis when I’m pregnant). I had uterus removed because of endometriosis and I was still 110lbs. When I was diagnosed with cancer they had to take a 1/3 of my colon and my fallopian tubes( now I have no more hormone production) which put me into surgically induced menopause at 35 years old. That is totally stressful and traumatic to the body. No peri menopause for the body to gradually and naturally go into menopause. I gained 70lbs and has been struggling to loose weight. never was a fast food, processed, sweets eating person, and I was never big on bread. ( I always ate hamburgers without bread. Of course I ate bread once in a blue moon, I love pasta, and all types of rice. I was a very active person and continued to be. I was an RN, ( now disabled, with multiple medical issues) who also performed and taught bellydancing and cross training with ballet and yoga. I’m no longer working as an RN because of health issues, but I still remained as active with my dancing and yoga for health reasons. I can’t loose this weight! 😢 My weight is like a yoyo fluctuating about 30 lbs and then my weight plateaus and I gain it all back again.
