As always, brilliant work, Michael! I watched the Tandoori Restaurant out of sequence and noticed the beautifully-detailed restaurant interior, admiring the work on the tables. I forgot that you had this video, and love the construction techniques logic! So often, we can have a mindset of doing something one way (building the structure, and then the interior, as I tend to do). Fabulous!!

If you've ever seen a layout populated with identical commercially made card buildings your eyes just glaze over the scenery and focus on the trains. Chandwell is different, there are no two buildings alike, every one is thoughtfully considered, cleanly built, and because of that looks at home in the landscape. This is customisation taken to guru level. Your eyes are drawn to the detail and you forget that you are looking at a model railway. Well done Michael George

Nice to see these interior details, they're hard to do in N scale! I see you're doing them the same way I've mostly done mine too, a sort of insert you can slide into the building. Takes just a bit of extra work making sure everything will slide and fit nice, but its so good to be able to have something you can slip out if you ever need to change it up or fix lighting or what have you.
@Chandwell

I like the idea of slide-in modules. This isn’t that advanced but should give just the right hint of detail, I hope!

With all those layers I think it should be strong enough. I notice when anyone is making a US "craftsman" kit they always have to use bracing. Fingers crossed that wont be necessary. The new camera seems to be fine for your pieces to camera. Cheers

Yeah I think so too. I have noticed an ever-so-slight bow in the gable wall of the Earl Chandfield, and again on the side of the Railway pub I've just finished. So it's been on my mind to brace them a little bit more than I used to. This one looks fine so far. Thanks for the vote of confidence re the camera. I didn't notice my shiny head and the thing stuck in my tooth until too late! :)

@@Chandwell I wouldn't worry about a bit of bowing - the gable end of my old house is 1.1/4" out of plumb with a noticeable belly in the middle, and this is not enough to worry about. I moved here in '94 (so one year after your target year) and there were a number of p*ssed houses around, some of which have been fixed and one or two which fell down!

Nice job on the interior. Since you've gone this far you might as well add some figures and lighting. It's out in front so it will be noticed.
@Chandwell
9 ай бұрын
I used to add lights but it quickly became apparent that I just don’t enjoy faffing on with lights, wiring, etc. it became a chore and buildings would just sit, incomplete, until I forced myself to do it. So I don’t do lights any longer. I do this for enjoyment and therefore skip anything I don’t enjoy. If you look at Google street view which is shot during the day, most of the interiors of buildings look dark and black, so it’s more realistic for a daytime layout to not have lights. All the clocks in Chandwell say 11:51 in the morning, so it’s unlikely there’d be many people in a place like this at that time, so this one will be empty. There are figures in the market, signal box, etc., and I may add some elsewhere indoors.
@jimhresco1728
9 ай бұрын
@@Chandwell yeah I'm the same with lighting. It's a chore but it can have some amazing effects. Painting N scale figures is work also but brings life to a layout.

Can the Lego man make a return to the videos? My brain works in 4mm and at the excellent standard and detail you achieve I forget it is half the sizes which makes it even more impressive.

Real quick question, can you give any advice or possibly recommend a printer? I'd like a printer that can also print WHITE so I can print water slide decals for my rollmg stock. Maybe another viewer has some advice as well. Thanks Michael. Cheers!
@Chandwell
9 ай бұрын
I use an old Canon inkjet and really like it. I’ve never heard of a printer that can print white. I guess you’d need something that uses paint or something as I’ve never heard of white ink. Good luck!
@thomasm1964
9 ай бұрын
I've never heard of a printer which prints white either. Both laser and inkjet printers work on the "additive" principle. In other words, they combine black, magenta, cyan and yellow to produce a specific colour. White is considered an absence of colour. With that in mind, I searched online for "white waterslide decal paper" and discovered that a number of manufacturers actually produce white - as opposed to transparent - decal papers. I have no idea whether they would prove suitable for your purposes but it might be worth an experiment or two.
