I liked the way Miles asked the question. The more pushy tone, etc - are no longer the soft ball easy questions that previous hosts typically let the answerer way too easy a time. You get a feeling of the frustration & genuinely passion that the fans share. The trackside engineering director handled it like a pro of course. You do sense his undercurrent exasperation at the less than superlative parts that the factory seems to enjoy sending since 2022.

Wondering why a professional interviewer would ask that question other than wanting to be mean spirited and rubbing salt into the wound? The answer would probably be quite boring whereby Mercedes provide the PU and the current regulations heavily favour aero design which McLaren (and to some extent Aston Martin) have done a better job than their PU supplying rival this year.
@Rustylad12
4 ай бұрын
Mercedes has a pretty good PU team that heavily contributed to the dominating era but the engine regulations are pretty old now and well studied by all manufacturers. Hence we are not seeing the marginal gains we used to see from them and it has become more of an aero design battle which they clearly struggled since the cost cap. The 2026 regulations is going to be key in deciding who dominates the next era. Those don't come under the regular cost cap so Mercedes might have a shot if they don't fumble it. But so does Ferrari and Honda. Renault not so sure.

The biggest problem for Mercedes is trying upgrades, or new setups on a sprint weekend, There simply isn't as much time as they need on a sprint weekend. In the past when they dominated and there weren't sprints, Mercedes would always reserve one of the practice days to test new ideas. It's not the same in the current era with sprint weekends. They may all of the same amount of time to prepare, but the advantage goes to those teams with a settled package, Mercedes right now exists as a team of theories and simulations, but not enough working knowledge. They're in the position of using races to gain knowledge, which is far from ideal.
@singular9
4 ай бұрын
This video is exactly why sprints are a waste of time. There is a reason there are 3 practice sessions, to test the tires and to know what's good and what isn't. Not enough time in one practice session to just set up the whole car. Ban FIA.

Naa, guys you really need to start putting some effort towards actually learning how this sport works... Especially if you're gonna level this kinda criticism to the team. If it's not clear the workings and you're still confused after watching the race and this debrief, phrase your questions better, ask the community to clarify tings for you. In the meantime, start reading up leading to a race weekend, lots of social media accounts that break down race operations and strategy tailored to each specific track. F1 itself puts out a lot of educational content, take advantage of that. You need it. Watch races, follow how they develop, look at the timing screens - they'd have shown you even on the favourable medium tyre, George couldn't close up to Lewis in the first stint. Plenty of drivers were on the hards for the 2nd stint and they all faired okay, Lewis was struggling with the hards but was still putting up good times in the 1st stint. GR had a bad weekend, it happens, he will bounce back.
