Yoda believed that only the offspring of Anakin would be able to defeat the Empire. He was hiding away until such time as Luke was ready to be trained. Joining the rebellion would have exposed his survival and put him at risk. He needed to stay hidden and train Luke in secret.

Also, I think after meditating about it, he realizes that it was all their fault, him and the council, their arrogance and blindness to the real world was the demise of the Jedi, and seeing Anakin using his saber 9000 younglings, probably destroyed him... I think in this Scenario if yuuzhan vong Invited the galaxy during the clone wars Padme would of been lost when the vong siege of Coruscant And if The twins are still born during this time Anakin would not be able to Take care of them He would be too Involved in the conflict And he would be The greatest weapon But anakin would mentally Not well He would become increasingly more dark As the war progressed And Really the only person That could take care of the twins And be like a mother to them would be ahsoka Which would be awkward and said when they call her mom And The chancellor would probably send Obi wan with grievous To keep him. The deaths of the Younglings (who Yoda was a mentor to) was probably one of the most horrific events of his life, and he was 900 years old, so of-course not being able to foresee that tragedy as head of the Jedi Order sent him on a downward spiral of depression and made it seem pointless for him to join the rebellion as that still wouldn’t bring back the Younglings. With Luke crossing his path, Yoda probably healed some of those old wounds of regret, and most likely felt redemption when he trained him as a Jedi.

Yoda failed to sense the dark side over the course of many years after numerous warning signs. Ep 1, Darth Maul’s appearance. Ep 2, Count Dooku straight up told Obi Wan that there was a Dark Lord in the Senate and he controls everything. Still didn’t believe them. A Clone Army appears out of nowhere and a certain chancellor continues to gain power. Ep 3, they sensed the dark side surrounded Palpaltine but by then it was too late. The destruction of the Republic and the entire Jedi Order crumbled under his watch and he failed to foresee or stop it by defeating Darth Sidious. Luke just had a dumb vision of his nephew becoming evil, tried to kill him in his sleep, which is totally out of his character. Luke’s father destroyed an entire planet just to test a weapon and he forgave him but let’s not get into that discussion. So Kylo fights back, somehow wins and takes a few students as his Knights of Ren. It’s stupid to go into exile bc your little Jedi school of 15 or so padawans was destroyed vs an entire galaxy and Jedi order for Yoda. That’s my opinion. Thanks for reading!!

In the end, Yoda knew about the Sith grand plan. It came to him in a vision during his arc in season six of the clone wars. He let it happen though, in the novelisation of revenge of the Sith it goes into further detail about this, as Yoda says that the order had fallen because the Sith had changed and could no longer be defeated by simple lightsabers, the Jedi “ let them change, I did not.” so in the movie when he says “into exile I must go, failed I have” he’s not talking about not stopping the grand plan of the Sith, but he’s talking about failing to lead the order into the future. Also, he was hiding because only Obi-Wan and him were left to train Luke, the future of the Jedi order rested in his survival.

To be fair, wasn’t he the Jedi Grandmaster for eight hundred years? He was Grandmaster longer than some nations have existed. There's a misunderstanding: Yoda indeed was powerful. But Palpatine and also the Sith evolved during one thousand years of not being exposed in public cause of the rule of 2, while the Jedi became soft and dogmatic and as a result they didn't improve at all. Plagueis and Palpatine (specially the second) were able to hide and grow strong while at the same time clouding the vision of the Jedi, who were unable to see the big plot the Sith were preparing.

Not buying this. IMO Yoda abandoned his fight with Sidious because he realised that to defeat him in combat with power and violence he would have become him - almost the same revelation Luke had in RotJ. And in killing the Emperor on the floor of the Senate he would fulfill all the lies told about the Jedi. The victory of the Dark Side woukd have been complete. So instead he chooses the longer, harder path of Light Side, one which led to the complete defeat of the Sith through the love,,faith and friendships of Anakin's offspring.
