I live in both California and Texas and much prefer California. The weather in California and the natural beauty cannot be beat but I do appreciate the politics more in Texas and the cost of living is still better than California, though not for much longer and the traffic in DFW is now on par with SoCal, sad to say. As for the lakes in Texas, the majority are man-made with no natural tributaries so the water is stagnant and the beaches are nothing to brag about. And no mountains. Yes, you can get more house but I would rather have a smaller house and live in a beautiful place with a great climate. Now all we have to do is get rid of the Dems and the stranglehold they have on the state and life would be great! Texas weather is extreme, it has always been dramatic but now it's just violent and awful. October is really the only good month there.

Thanks Colleen, you offer some true insights that are shared by many who relocate which is why I like to share not only positives of living here, but an overall view of the area. For many that reach out and move here, jobs, politics are some of the main reasons, and sometimes that overshadows natural beauty of California for many. For those saying "California is a super awesome place to live" hasn't spent much time here. It might not be one specific thing that drives people out of CA.......but when you start adding it all up, it starts to get ridiculous. $5.00+ for a gallon of gas, pay for your shopping bags, $10.00+ for 2 cheese burgers at McDonalds, can't get homeowners insurance because the companies left and if you can even find coverage, you'll pay through the nose. California is the "Shake 'n Bake" state. Down south you shake.....up north you bake. All these people bitching about the heat in Texas need to spend a summer in Northern California. Right now it's 112°F at 6pm in Placer County and it will stay that way until next week. This is normal for the summer months. Only 2 seasons here in NorCal.....Summer and Winter (if you can really call it winter). I'm a 5th generation Californian and my wife and I are done with the stupidity here and are gone come December. You can't really retire here. Everything is way too pricey. Sad.

Just moved to West, TX (north of Waco) from Vancouver, WA in Oct 2022. I expected the heat and humidity, and was counting on the flag waving - so that's cool - but I was totally (and I mean completely) taken by surprise by how little care there is here for infrastructure, of all kinds. Roads(!!!) (signage, markings, lighting, crumbling surfaces galore, inconsistent traffic alignments), spotty internet, bad water, power (just awful), unreliable cell service - everything is VERY poor here infrastructurally. Happy to be a conservative yeah, and don't mind some sweaty summers to prove myself so, and everyone is very friendly (which is really great), but it sure would be nice if the government that does exist actually cared for the public services. Not caring for aging infrastructure actually speaks very poorly of the conservative culture here (the government that governs best governs least, right??), if we're being completely honest.

Phoenix only has banking jobs mostly. Now, below are the factors we will surely miss about Phoenix- 1. There are places above sea level that you can go with 2 hours drive - Show Low, Payson, Sierra Vista. 15 degrees cooler. 2. Lesser property tax than Dallas We would definitely miss Phoenix but we have sat ourselves down & weighed pros and cos and it overall makes sense for us to move out of Phoenix.

This is an excellent video. I moved from Houston to Los Angeles in 1999. I lived in LA until 2020. I left LA because of extreme high cost of living/housing. I also don’t like CA politics. Back in Houston, I love native Texans. Their friendly and I appreciate their values. BUT- Texas isn’t like it used to be due to the massive amount of people moving In during the past 2 1/2 years. Houston has become congested, the drivers are pretty much like LA drivers- aggressive, rude and pushy. The price of housing is going up. Thankfully I bought a house here 10 years ago when it was still good. But even out in the suburbs it is crowded and lots of traffic. Then there is the weather. As a child I didn’t notice it, but in middle age I tolerate the high heat/humidity very poorly from late May to end of October when it is in the triple digits. So I’d tell anyone thinking of moving here to carefully consider. The grass isn’t always greener.

I'm originally from TX midland and lived in Plano twice, I currently live just 20 minutes north of Seattle (for work) and have for 14 years. I'm looking at moving back to the DFW metroplex, I miss southern hospitality. I have a house with a view of the mountains, 40 minutes away from skiing, 10 minutes from the ocean, millions of hiking trails, lakes, ECT. I FKN hate it here, it's cloudy and rainy 45° for 8 months out of the year. The only good food here is asian styles, they really don't have a food culture here. The people have no personalities either and are antisocial. The 3 month of good sunlight we get everyone is trying to do all the outdoor activities they can before the rain returns so it's super packed anywhere you go, the roads r to small for the amount of people who live here so constant traffic all day, 7 days a week, infrastructure is horrible, buildings and towns r old and outdated, it's really one big outdated small town. There's trash all along the highways, all around most towns, they don't mow or manicure any grass or landscaping that's related to the cities or states. Yeah we all wish we could have 70 degrees near a beach but drive 30 minutes east of the ocean and it's as hot as TX. Liberals are freaking weird unrealistic people who don't focus on logical goals, old-school original Dems were fine. This new liberal woke ideology has ruined anything that used to be nice here, what little culture they had. Anyways, the value of having good friendly people, good foods, big highways, clean city, sunlight, police that are aloud to deal with crime, community and state leaders who work for their people, makes it totally worth giving up all the nature I have around me. I really miss TX and southern living, hopefully not long before I can get out of here.

Their biggest regret is the temperature is going to be triple digits for the next eight days in a row, 37% humidity. Texas doesn’t have a state tax. But they have a hell of a property tax. They got to get their money somewhere. If your neighbor sells and moves in your neighborhood. If the equity has gone up on their home. Well, guess what you get assessed and get a new property tax bill. I know somebody that moved to Texas due to a job transfer. Their property tax went up from $1600-$6000 in 10 years. How do you explain that Texas. Because of the extreme weather in Texas home insurance is expensive. Their electrical grid is unreliable in the winter and besides that it’s very expensive. So why would somebody from California move to Texas, they didn’t do their homework that’s why.

I was born and raised in Los Angeles, grew up in the 1990s. I noticed that people left California for 2 major reasons: cost of living was too expensive or they moved to a new state where they could raise their kids in a safe neighborhood ( their tiny LA apartment in a rough area was not going to work for their growing family). In other words, they were "chased out of Los Angeles" and moving out of California was the better option. No one loves the humidity and heat of Texas, but the affordable housing, less crime, less homeless makes it the better option. More Pros then Cons. I moved from California from Texas. Is Texas perfect, no? Is it the better option (or lesser of 2 evils?), yes it is

TX would've been a good choice maybe 15/20 years ago. But it has literally exploded with people flooding into the state, which raises housing prices, cost of living, traffic. Just way to many people moving there. Once rural areas now covered in new housing developments, strip malls .. no thanks. I'm in CA and looking at Oklahoma, where all this migration and congestion isn't really a thing, at least not yet. Cheaper to live there than TX and WAY cheaper than CA.

#1 factor: it's freedom (red) vs wokeness (blue). anything else like weather, beaches, etc is secondary imho.

@@AndersonChao-vs3zf I am multi generations born and still in Northern California and there is a lot of new buildings going up and I looked it up and out of a State with a population of about 40 million it only had a net loss of a few hundred thousand people over a few years.

AZ is hotter!!! If they don't like the guns, leave!!! It would be great that people here would be willing to make friends outside of acquaintances. I am not the only one that feels that way. I move from AZ.
