One of my friends went back to teaching chemistry at a public high school after working as a chemist in a testing facility for many years, and she tried her best to make the lessons fun/interesting for her students by keeping the class as interactive as possible. She ended up leaving after a few years. The current structure of our public education system isn’t set up for providing our future adults with lasting knowledge. It is designed to help the children learn how to take tests. My son is currently a high school junior, and he tells me there is very little interaction from his teachers other than assignments being given. If it weren’t for his love of band and applied music classes, I would have taken him out of public school years ago.

Although radiation is something to be worries about so caution is never negative.

Radon gas is actually pretty heavy. Which is why radon systems are only installed in basements along with a sump system to pull the gas out of the ground before it gets into the house. I imagine the guy who had big issues with radon in the water probably has uranium ore nearby. When working new construction plumbing, we are required to install a radon system if the house has a basement. But a radon pump needs not be installed until radon levels are proven to be an issue. Which happen when we finish the house. Slab houses with no basement have no issue with radon. But uranium ore being nearby where I live isn't an issue.

I already thoroughly scanned the apartment and found next to nothing of radiological interest. The beta and gamma only M4011 tube only read about 0.3 uSv/h. 70 minutes later I'm picking up 0.25 uSv/h and I'm guessing it's gonna settle around twice background after the only main products left are lead- bismuth- and polonium-210. About 3 hours in it's hardly at 50% above background.

I have to point out that the Geiger counter in the video cost 3x more than a simple, dedicated home radon detector. If you do find high radon levels after getting a lab test done, it's generally cheaper long term and less annoying to monitor your home yourself than it is to mail test kits every time you change anything in your mitigation strategy.

Radon also comes from Thorium. There are 4 types of radiation, he left out neutron. His friend's house probably had such high levels because of the stone floors and not just (or primarily) from the well water. If you have granite countertops or floors except exceptionally high radon levels. And despite what the Radon Measuring and Remediation companies want you to believe, Radon is not that dangerous. In fact, a study by Professor Cohen showed LOWER lung cancer rates in Pennsylvania counties with HIGHER radon levels. The opposite of what you would expect if radon was causing lung cancer.

Well Alpha particles are positively charged, beta particles are negatively charged, andgamma radiation is electrically neutral . ... Because they consist of charged particles, alpha and beta radiation can also be deflected by magnetic fields . Just as with electric fields, gamma radiation is not deflected by magnetic fields. But, Metal foams are capable of shielding X-rays, gamma rays, neutron radiation. Research shows lightweight composite metal foams are effective at blocking X-rays, gamma rays and neutron radiation, and are capable of absorbing the energy of high impact collisions.

Proximity to uranium deposits and homes with basements/underground floors. Myself and my family have been involved in real estate in Phoenix, AZ, USA since the early '80s, dealt with many thousands of homes, and we've only even heard of homes here having high levels of radon maybe twice ever and it's always basement homes. Presumably due to more earth surface area contact, and especially gravity since radon is much heavier than air and thus more likely to accumulate in lower floors. We don't have very many basement homes here, probably why radon testing isn't anywhere near as common here as it was 10 or 20+ years ago.

I seems to me that if you could Know the volume of "air" going thru the filter , this could be a good fast quantitative test ...
