*HLP (Hybrid Learning and Plurilingualism) Project aims and goals:*
The HLP Project was designed with the aim of creating online pedagogical materials on Plurilingualism targeting bi/plurilingual students who are learning an additional language. These materials can be embedded in a language class with the purpose of promoting plurilingual skills/competences and critical thinking.
*Educational approach and goals:*
The project adopts a concept-based approach, which allow students to:
- internalize key concepts related to Plurilingualism
- use these concepts as a tool for thinking, making sense what Plurilingualism is, creating and
sharing new ideas with peers by relating these concepts to their own life experiences.
*Pedagogical materials:*
The online pedagogical materials consist of 4 concept videos on Plurilingualism.
These videos have been divided into sub-sequences for language class use, which are
supplemented by:
- awareness-oriented activities
- cross-linguistic activities
- identity tasks.
If you are interested in the pedagogical implementation of the videos and related activities,
please contact the Director of the HLP Project Barbara Spinelli at italian.columbia.edu/content/barbara-spinelli.
The HLP Project was funded by the “Hybrid Learning Course Redesign and Delivery Grant”
(Columbia University, New York - Office of the Provost).
Videos have captions in: English, French, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese
*Through this video:*
Students will be able to
- explore and understand that linguistic and cultural proximity across languages is also
due to historical and geographical reasons and may involve languages belonging to
different language families
