Thanks to your Mom for sharing her wisdom with us. I'm about her age and faded out of the organization about 25 years ago but am just beginning to realize that I haven't fully woke up from all the years of indoctrination. These videos are helping me.

Just binged watched these videos with your mom. They came up as a suggestion. I left JW in 2019, after 50+ years in, and dragged my whole family out with me, including my mom, as well. CSA and their policies on it. My husband gave me a year to watch all the exjw things then told me i had to move on, 😊. I pretty much only sub to Kim and Mikey for updates now. We walked away. The elders never have tried to reach out to us. We live in a small town, 😂 We run into them all the time. They ignore us They KNOW THEY WERE IN THE WRONG.

Thank you so much for giving your experiences! I have never heard the illustration about disfellowshipping being compared to using the electric paddles! Awful analogy! Your daughter summed it better per leaving the flatlined person for six months before giving the treatment. Early on in my experiences with being a borgite a dear elder friend of mine whose grown son had been disfellowshipped tried explaining to me about it being a loving arrangement. I could tell by his face he didn't think it was a loving arrangement. I was just silent. We didn't speak of it ever again in those terms. His son did get cancer not too long after that and died. I took the elder and his wife to visit their son in the hospital for I think what was the last time they saw him before passing. Their son said that day that he has made his peace with Jehovah. I never forgot about the experience. It was one of the first red flags I took note of.

Well done sisters. John 18:37 So Pilate said to him: “Well, then, are you a king?” Jesus answered: “You yourself are saying that I am a king. For this I have been born, and for this I have come into the world, that I should bear witness to the truth. Everyone who is on the side of the truth listens to my voice.” The governing body of Jehovah’s Witnesses ceased listening to Christ voice in the 1940’s, when previously they had obeyed His counsel concerning sin found in Matthew 18. The reason stated in the WT at the time was that it had become too difficult to get the congregations to agree when matters arrived at the third stage. Since when did Christians stop obeying Christ because it was difficult!? Obviously it was all downhill from then. If Jesus returned today, and witnessed the suffering of so many disenchanted of His followers, and asked the so called shepherds why these ones had been persecuted, no doubt they would answer: because they don’t agree with our interpretation of your law on love! It is to be remembered, that the clergy class at the head of Jehovah’s Witnesses will disfellowship you for the most serious and heinous sins, just as they also would do to those who verbally disagree with them. To become a lost soul, first, you have to lose your mind. If a person who isolates themselves becomes selfish and loses their wisdom, how much more damage is done to a soul when those they love isolate them? Matthew 5:10 Happy are those who have been persecuted for righteousness sake, since the Kingdom of the heavens belongs to them. A person who is on the side of the truth and therefore listens to Jesus voice and not men’s, will be persecuted by anyone who has forsaken righteousness! 1 John 4:18 There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts fear out, because fear restrains us. Indeed, the one who is fearful has not been made perfect in love. Always remember, you are not alone!

I met a JW at in a hospital cafeteria once and she recognized me, but I didn’t recognize her. She didn’t know that I had left the organization. She excitedly said to me that they GB was about to release a new Bible. So I asked her what was wrong with the last one? You should’ve seen the look of shock on your face. Edit: this was in 2016

I didn't even find out about the shunning until I was in for two years, really never cared for it that much, and I only studied to placate my mother-in-law. That information was withheld, and when I found it out, I felt not only betrayed but cried. It is such an age old story, my father taught me all religions were good, so that made me "prime" but he never talked about cults. He would have said "a cult is group who lets rattlesnakes bite them, to test God and live." But then we all know they milked the rattlesnakes!

Thank you both for your sincere and heartfelt videos. As a PIMQ, this is a subject I'm grappling with at the moment. Undoubtedly, from a humanitarian pov, shunning is cruel. But scripturally, how would explain 1Cor 5:11-13? (NASB) "But [i]actually, I [j]wrote to you not to associate [k]with any so-called brother if he is a sexually immoral person, or a greedy person, or an idolater, or is verbally abusive, or habitually drunk, or a swindler-not even to eat with such a person. 12For what business of mine is it to judge outsiders? Do you not judge those who are within the church? 13But those who are outside, God [l]judges. REMOVE THE EVIL PERSON FROM AMONG YOURSELVES." In a practical sense, how would that be applied? Eg in your fellowship, what if a baptised Christian turned up with his live-in boyfriend? How would your fellowship apply 1 Cor 5:11-13? I'm not trying to be controversial, I'm genuinely trying to get a scriptural understanding of this whole issue.

I recommend going to jwfacts to save yourself a lot of time . I will say that they use shunning a tool to keep information about the organization away from people. The end of the February broadcast is to create fear to control everyone from doing actual research. I have read the really old literature and I’m so grateful I was never baptized. The blood doctrine is nonsense as well. Breastmilk contains millions of white blood cells not fractions . JW’s can donate their breastmilk to other babies. So this donated milk is eaten by other infants full of white blood cells . Yet JW’s don’t donate blood for their fractions they consciously take . Plus check out 1 Corinthians 10:25-33 and 1 Corinthians 8:4-8 jwfacts shunning in a search will show you a ton of Bible verses on Jesus’s examples on how to treat a sinner

@DM-he1ug. It's not that the Bible doesn't teach disfellowshipping, it's just that the Watchtower does it arbitrarily, does it for things which aren't even issues (i.e. blood transfusions, voting, military service, working on a military base, etc.), and doesn't even do it properly (using an inquisition style hearing). Also, the other side of the issue is restoration. Shunning most of the time goes too far. The Watchtower way also puts people on 'probation' even after 'repenting.' That's a far cry from 2 Cor. 2:1-11 and not creating excessive sorrow. We as evangelicals ideally try to apply 'church discipline', but many times it doesn't get done because the sinning person simply changes churches.
@DM-he1ug

@@mitchmiller7204 Thanks. That's a very helpful reply. It's the blanket condemnation of disfellowshipping as 'unscriptural' by the ex-jw community that I struggle with. So how would you say the example I cited should be specifically handled in a Christian congregation please?
@mitchmiller7204
8 ай бұрын
@@DM-he1ug Once the situation you mentioned would be known, a brother or sister would confront the sinning person and would try to influence him/her to repent. If that didn't happen, the confronter would bring one or two more people to witness either the repentance of the sinner, or the lack of repentance. These are the first two steps Jesus mentioned in Matthew 18 (I Cor. 5. must be applied with it in mind) The final step would be where the sinner would be brought before the church (represented by the board of elders or deacons, depending on the individual church polity). If no repentance was gained at this stage, the person would be removed from the church and a public announcement made that "Due to moral failure, ___________ ______________________ is no longer a part of ___________________ Church. This is at least how it's done at my independent Bible Church. You have to remember in your struggle with how the ex-JW community has particular attitudes about this subject, that it is NOT monolithic. Many do NOT become evangelical Christians (many become atheists, some become secular) and end up overreacting on this subject, probably because of the abusive, overreactive policies of the Watchtower. Many of them have encountered (one way or another) lies and slander by their elders just because they have expressed differing points of view on issues, thereby resulting in shunning /disfellowshipping. It's easy to go from one extreme to another. I hope this is helpful.

@@mitchmiller7204 Very helpful. Best explanation I've read so far to be honest. Only one more thing- after the announcement, how specifically would the members of the congregation treat the unrepentant sinner?...
