Actually, you don't really need to seek advice. It can be simple as Excema or any kind of condition that makes your skin sensitive. Whenever you go to a dermatologist, they will ask if the inside of your ears are itchy most of the time. Allergies come into play here too but that's another example.

I used an earwax removal kit before. All the earwax in my ear ended up running down to the eardrum and solidifying there. Couldn't hear anything from that ear and had to have it removed by a doctor. So yeah, be careful with those too.

This is definitely an issue, but earwax is so important for your inner ear, if you clean it too often the inner ear can get dry and irritated. You definitely can't use in-ear headphones without cleaning your ears unless you want your earwax smeared all over them. I guess full-size, over-ear headphones is the way to go. Maybe less comfortable than your in-ear ones but we can't have everything, right?

Even after cleaning my ears, the ent doctor looked into my ear when I was required to go before getting hearing aids, and said there is nothing wrong with my ears thatHe said he doesn’t understand why I was there. He said my ears were just “dirty”. I was so embarrassed and from then on, before I ever allowed anyone to look into my ears, I made sure they were squeaky clean. I hate it when a doctor says he sees earwax even after I tried hard to clean them. I felt so dirty. Doctors, don’t humiliate your patients for having ear wax in their ears. If it’s a lot, clean them yourselves!

I used to clean out my ears with q-tips until one day a few years ago I accidentally pushed it too far in and it poked my left eardrum and it was some of the worst pain I've ever felt. I'm not even kidding. My hearing out of that ear was muffled for a few days, as well. I didn't go to a doctor so idk if the eardrum actually tore, but it "fixed itself" and I can hear out of both ears fine now (although occasionally there'll be a noise like bubbles popping inside my left ear canal. This is different than the "popping" that occurs when you yawn or chew gum). I never cleaned out my ears with q-tips after that day, however, I'm not risking that pain again.

I couldn't believe my eyes O_O I honestly thought I cleaned my ears too much, now I think I need to buy a kit because that was horrendous. I know we are told not to use Q-tips/swabs in the ear, but I do it nearly EVERY DAY, and my doc's have never told me that there is a problem with my ears, or that there is any wax build-up at all. I do it gently, and I constantly twist the Q-tip while it's in the canal. There is very often some color on the Q-tip indicating that it has cleaned some material out, but the Q-tip doesn't scour the canal; plenty of natural material is left on the skin to do whatever it's supposed to do. I never wet the Q-tip or put any kind of cleaner or soap on it, and it only takes a few seconds. Doing this also helps relieve rare itchiness in there. This is not meant to be an encouragement to use swabs this way, and I have NOTHING whatever to do with the Q-tip brand. It's clear that if you do this too harshly damage could result. There are good reasons why every brand of cotton swab tells you not to use it in the ear. All I can say is that I have never been harmed by this.
