12 yrs ago, our family bounced around, different Parish again and again...until one day we attended the Latin Mass. our Children begged us to return the the Latin Mass again and again. They, in their young ages, told us, mom/dad, this is the Mass of God! No party, no showboating, no distractions from truly adoring Our Lord Throughout the Mass, as we Should!!!!!!

I just switched to Latin Mass about 8 months ago.. and my family is offended and sad. I honestly don't want to attend Novus ordo again, I'd rather travel 2 hours round trip 3 times a week, and go to adoration the other days. My family is offended by this. I try and explain it to them, my love for the Tradition, reverence, and security of knowing it's not doing anything abusive or corrupt. But they don't understand. Maybe this video will help! 😁

I'm just trying to explain to them I want my babies at the purest most Catholic form of the most beautiful act we can ever do as Catholics.. attending Mass. They think me saying that last sentence I said is not good or Catholic, because it indicates something is wrong with Novus Ordo. And I'm like... Yes?... I don't have anything against the Extraordinary form of mass (the Latin Mass) because that's what I had in my childhood. It's solemn. The faithful in the mass are quiet and just follow the order of the rite in the missalette, but the missalette didn't have the translation into the language one can understand (maybe, universally, English or wherever a country's national language would be). The order of the mass in the missalettte, just told me when to stand,, kneel, or sit or sing. Only the priest is offering the mass on his own. --- To me, it's ok for a priest or any theologian to explain how to follow the Latin mass as contained in the mass book or missalette (we call it). That's it. BUT I PRAY THAT LOVERS OF THE LATIN MASS DON'T GO TO THE EXTENT OF REALLY CAMPAIGNING PEOPLE OR ENCOURAGING THEM TO LOVE THE LATIN MASS. The traditional Latin mass id not change its spiritual essence, WHEN VATICAN II changed it -- A CHANGE THAT IS BETTER FOR THE MASS TO BE UNDERSTOOD WHEN THE FAITHFUL ATTENDING MASS CAN UNDERSTAND IT IN THEIR OWN LANGUAGE OR VERNACULAR. THAT'S THE MAIN PURPOSE -- NOT TO UNDERMINE THE LATIN MASS. -- THE SECOND BENEFIT OF THE VATIICAN II CHANGE, is mass has become participative and interactive, between the priest and faithful, and they can participate in the singing, as WELL KNOW ARE USED TO; and there is an interactive singing of choir and response singing as well as, LED SINGING BY A DESIGNATED LEAD.---- I RESPECT LATIN MASS. BUT FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, THERE'S AN OCCASION OF IT, MAYBE FOR SPECIAL MEETINGS OF CLERICS OR DESIGNATED SCHEDULE AT CHURCH FOR LATIN MASS FOR PEOPLE WHO HAVE THE URGE TO ATTEND IT. (maybe when people just love to be all silent at mass, and just let the priest offer the mass facing the altar). I HOPE THAT IF THIS IS DONE IN THE HOLY SEE, IT IS NOT A ASSERTION SO THAT WHATEVER A TRANSFORMATION INTO WORSHIPPING IN A DIFFERENT ORDER OF RITES FOR THE LORD JESUS CHRIST, IT IS DONE SO WITHOUT OPENLY KNOWING THE TRANSFORMATION? IF THERE IS TRANSFORMATION, WHAT'S WRONG WITH OPENLY HAVING SO FOR THE LOVE OF JESUS CHRIST UNDER THE NEW COVENANT? ---- PRAYERS THAT THIS INTEREST IN LATIN MASS WILL LEAD INTO A CONFLICT BETWEEN CHOOSING IT BACK OR CONTINUE THE VATICAN II (OR THE PRESENT-DAY ITNERACTIVE/PARTICIPATIVE MASS). PRAYERS. THE VATICAN II PRESENT DAY MASS DID NOT CHANGE THE SPIRITUAL ESSENCE OF TRIDENTINE -- IT JUST BENEFITED ALL OUTSKIRTS COMMUNITIES AND VILLAGES TO BE ABLE TO UNDERSTAND EVERY PRAYER OFFERED BY THE PRIEST, AND MORE SO ON RESPONSORIAL EXCHANGES. IT CONVEYS A MASS, WHERE THE BODY OF CHRIST IS COMMUNICATED DUALLY -- BETWEEN CHRIST IN THE CELEBRATION OF THE PRIEST, AND HIS PEOPLE, THE FAITHFUL OF THE CHURCH. LET'S ALL THINK FOR THE LOVE OF JESUS CHRIST AND HIS BODY, THE CHURCH. WE CANNOT START ANOTHER ATTENTION-GETTING ISSUE THAT CAN CAUSE CONFLICT AMONG CATHOLICS, BECAUSE EXTERNAL PRESSURE THAT CAN CREATE ANOTHER STIRRING NOISES THAT CAN AGAIN CHALLENGES OF DISPERSAL AMONG CATHOLICS. GOD BLESS.

Latin Mass is the best. Nothing compares to it. It contains everything without the irreverent and irrelevant so-called 'novelties'. As a woman with Autism, I was pleasantly surprised to find that I suffer considerably less stress and anxiety during a Latin Mass than with the Novus Ordo - simply because it has less of a social aspect e.g. sign of peace etc. and it is more God-focussed and God-centred. I long to resume attending LM regularly (it's a fair distance from where I live, and I'm not good at travelling on my own), since my fiancé died (who loved each and every time we went to Latin Mass because it was the Mass he's familiar with before stopped going. He disliked the Novus Ordo when he decided to return to the Church). God is good.

It’s not the extraordinary form. And it was never forbidden. No priest can be forbidden to say it, and no one can be forced to say the new mass. Quo Primum was never abrogated. Every priest of the Roman Rite can say it. Priests should not be saying the novus ordo mass. Read the Ottaviani Intervention. The head of the Holy Office condemned it in the original Latin form said exactly according to the rubrics. The new mass is not pleasing to God.

Love God & Neighbor. Your better with no mass than sacrilegious masses. Your better with no priests than bad priests. A 10 good Traditional priests will do more than 100 liberal ones. And a few traditional reverent masses will draw down more grace than lots of masses with full of sacrilege like the holy communion in the new mass. The new mass was forced in the church. Most People and priests never wanted it. Priest were lied to and told you have to say it. Pope Benedict XIV “It is better to have a few ministers who are upright and effective, than many who Labor in vain to build up the church.”

The problems in the Novus Ordo church (of the new advent) - are much bigger than most want to admit. Truth is a hard thing. If I attend a 1962 version of the "mass", said in Latin; but belong to a religious sect that teaches and practices things that have been condemned by the Catholic Church - is God pleased? It's time to start thinking about Rev. 18:4. Due to our infidelity, things are going to get worse. The Bride of Christ is going through her passion. Like her Groom - she is falsely accused. Go find her.

When the letter came out by Pope Benedict 16, circa 2007 allowing an opening for the discussion about a latin mass. The priest at one local parish asked, he was politely told by the Bishop to NEVER ask again. If he were to ask again he would be transferred. The message to the local parish was STOP all efforts to not be progressive. If you don't quit, the Bishop would send a marxist type priest. Eventually the Father who asked did ask for a transfer to be closer to his parents. Bishop sent a replacement priest who leaned clearly toward liberation theology, didn't appear to be coincidental.

I attend Latin Mass in Tampa. We welcome newcomers. No fears. No need to 'know everything' when you show up. Spend the first few weeks observing and soaking it in. No one will judge you. Also, don't fear if you haven't been to confession and can't go up for communion. No one is looking around and judging you for going up or not. It's o.k. to remain in your seat if you can't partake. Just come and take in the mass. Ask God to reveal himself to you there. You'll be glad. When you see the priest offer the holy sacrifice, just anchor your prayers to that sacrifice. All of our prayers, the priest's and those of the laity, are going up to God together. So, don't worry up front about all the rubrics. Eventually you will learn some by osmosis. After a few weeks you might pick up a missal or just ask some questions. For now, just come and be in God's presence and send up your prayers to God with the rest of us. If you are in Tampa and want to join us, contact me here and I'll give you details on how to get to our local masses.

I love the Latin Mass and as much as possible would attend if it’s available in a nearby parish but I have this one question, which anyone could just chime in. This one has really bugged me deep inside: if you can do anything you want eg. Pray the Rosary, read a spiritual book and meditate, some would sit, others would stand or kneel, then how does that promote Unity in Worship especially with our bodies/gestures when everybody is free to do what they want in the Sacrifice of the Mass? Thanks and God bless.
@MattBurrill
5 жыл бұрын
The unity is present in the Sacrifice of the Mass itself. Each person at the Mass will be relating to it differently, though. One person might be lingering over the Agnus Dei and contemplating Christ as the sacrificial Lamb. Another might be praying the Sorrowful mysteries and meditating on Christ's agony in the Garden. Another might be observing the complex symbolic interplay of the Jews and Gentiles as represented by the Subdeacon and Deacon. Another may be teaching their son or daughter to follow along in the Missal. We don't need to all be thinking the same thoughts and singing the same hymns to be unified in our purpose. I think the Latin Mass strikes the ideal balance between unity and diversity.

My family and I have found another parish to attend regularly for TLM but would love to open our own parishes ‘eyes’ to the beauty and power of it. I am continually met with a lot of pushback including from our Pastor (who also recently took away the religious exemption for vaccine from our Catholic School). Today just before rosary, one of the people who was an opponent spoke of an article she read in the NYT no less, re TLM and how it is bringing young people back to the church. A point I tried to make but was told I had my facts wrong. Well - God in His mysterious ways worked thru that liberal rag to appeal to some of the lukewarm and I was shocked and grateful. Now if only she would become a proponent within our church. Until then, we have become co-parishoner’s. Sunday’s at TLM, daily and other sacraments at our local parish. Keep saying those rosaries! The Lord wants our devotion!!!!!!

Just wandering if those who love the Latin Mass grew up attending it. I did. I would sit there not knowing what is going on and wondering how those people were able to follow with their English missals. When I asked, my mother would try to explain to me but it never made a lot of sense. Basically it was a lot of "by guess and by golly" and you could never be sure. Initially the English Mass was very beautiful but became more mundane as it became more conversational. Is it any wonder that some Catholics no longer believe in the transubstantiation of the bread and wine into the actual body and blood of Jesus Christ? I don't object to those who wish to attend the Latin Mass, but I do think there is a real opportunity to partiipate in the English Mass, common vernacular notwithstanding. Constant updates to the Novus Ordo however have gone to far in making the Mass far less solemn.

I loved the comment of the one lady at the back who said she grew up with the Latin mass. I did too. I really loved what she had to say because it was true. I realized how comforting it was when I was young to grow up in Ontario Canada with my parish church mass every Sunday and then travel to Cleveland, Ohio and the SAME mass could be heard. Yes that gave us so much comfort and a GREAT sense of security, and I love what she said that every time you experience a Latin mass, it was THE SAME mass our ancestors would hear throughout the past ages...that is something to talk about! When I returned to my faith two years ago and went to see my FSSP priest for guidance on returning, my question was how do I follow along? He just told me very simply, "Just bask in it." I did just that and like Taylor said, we 'habituate" eventually you just come to know what comes next, standing, kneeling, sitting, but you keep discovering the deeper meaning of these liturgical treasures and the Gregorian chant is so so so beautiful and heavenly... What I also love about the genius of the Roman mass is that its so universal world wide it seemed to remedy the disaster of Babel with all the languages and meanings etc. these past almost two thousand years the Latin or the Greek or Church Slavonic serves to UNIFY everyone on the same page...harmony.

@Mr. No Name It is a line from Deuteronomy protecting oxen's right to some remuneration for their labor (food), which Paul later uses (twice) to argue that humans have the same right. He might be recommending people donate to Marshall's ministry. Or maybe Fr. is punning about Marshall's mention of Aquinas' (the Ox's) mystical reflection on the number of times the priest turns ad popolum - a practice removed with the elimination of ad orientem in most American parishes. Thus obviating Aquinas' observation and "muzzling [or muting] the Ox." Both are good things to say.

Since Thomas was a big, quiet man, he gained the nickname of "Dumb Ox." But, recognizing the genius inside, Albertus quipped, "This is an ox whose braying all Europe will hear."” Dr. Marshall’s New Saint Thomas Institute has as its motto: “Non Alligabis Os Bovi” roughly translated it means “Thou shalt not muzzle the ox.”

I had a conversation with a friend who felt a divide in the Diocese between those who prefer to attend reverent English or Latin Mass and those who attend Novus Ordo. The friend got the feel that those who attend the Latin were superior, no sense of community, individual. I said we are born with a fallen nature, maybe those are false perceptions given and taken, but the Latin Mass IS powerful and beautiful at which was retorted, "and the Novus Ordo is not!?" ( implying I didn't think it was valid) I said, "I didn't say that, you just need to understand why the Latin Mass is so powerful". ( my personal thought...we are Latin Rite after all aren't we?) The friend was strong on the community thing, being a convert I can understand that, not judging! I believe in community...after the Holy Sacrifice! There is no reason why we shouldn't commune and get to know one another and be PROUD to be Catholic !! PLEASE do a show Dr. Marshall on the gestures and facets of the Holy Mass from the moment the priest walks in (in Personna Christi) up to the Altar. Several years ago I listened to a cassette tape by Jesse Romero on the break down of The Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, it was AWESOME! You gave some of the meanings here in this talk, but as the young man said at the end of your talk , we NEED more!! There is a GREAT NEED for people to know actually where and why they are coming to Mass and realize this is TRUE WORSHIP and what ACTUALLY is taking place as we offer ourselves on that Paten and in the Chalice to Our Lord at His Crucifixion and takes all and delivers it to God The Father and Jesus in turn , GIFTS us with HIS BODY BLOOD SOUL and DIVINITY! At Communion we TRULY become COMMUNITY, we become one, not at the Our Father!!! You do this, and I'll bet it gets shared many many times with family and friends and even better yet priests!!! Less people will leave, more reverence, love and understanding and beautiful participation! Let the faithful KNOW we are at Calvary, the only time heaven touches earth!!! I hope you do it!! God's Peace....Our Lady Mediatrix of All Graces pray for us+++

My experience is that there is VERY, VERY MUCH MORE sense of community at a Latin Mass. At the Sunday Latin Masses I have attended pracically the whole congregation goes to coffee and doughnuts in the parish hall and liturgy and religion are discussed. How many people go to coffee and douhnuts after a Novus Ordo? Maybe ten. What do they talk about? Not religion.

I currently travel an hour one way literally through the woods and over a mountain. It is so worth it. There are people in my church who travel 3 hours one way to get to mass. I will soon be moving to a location where the mass is 1 1/2 hours away one way. It is one of many ways I can carry my own cross and offer it up to Jesus.

I went to Latin Mass and thought the outfits were bizarre. I didn't know what was being said. I just knelt, sat and stood when my dad pulled my ear. There were 5 of us kids. The Mass in English was better but the shaking of hands with people in front, back, left or right was odd saying, peace be with you. After Confirmation I quit going.

Hey Taylor, big fan, was wondering your opinion on the Lady of All Nations, a Marian apparition in Amsterdam at the end of WWII and that continued into the 1950s. The apparitions became church approved in 2002, and In my opinion, are on par with Fatima in what they portray. There is also a Marian apparition in Quito, Ecuador (Our Lady of Good Success) that I think you would enjoy reading about. Hopefully, more people can find out about these apparitions and believe in them, anyway, thanks for the great content and for getting people to be aware of the invisible battles we are facing. Those who appreciate the Latin mass and all it’s trappings should reflect why they do so and have charity and respect for those Catholics not using the Latin mass. The haughtiness and pomposity surrounding Latin mass goers is silly and invites backlash from the average catholic who has no idea one’s own kids would be subject to hostilities, snide and rude comments or dismissive smears and looks.

Some overly zealous advocates of the TLM can be offensive, I admit. But every good cause in history, specifically religious or not, has had overly zealous advocates who give the cause in general a bad name. Please judge the TLM on its merits, not on the demerits of its overly zealous advocates. In particular, if any one of them suggests to you that the Novus Ordo is invalid do not listen to them.

I do not love the Latin Mass. It was never mentioned during RCIA. We thought it was an antiquated relic from days gone by. Now people are suggesting the Latin Mass is the only truly valid Mass and that the Mass in English is essentially false. What? Is this Catholicism's idea of a dirty joke? I do not appreciate it, nor do I find humor in it. I left a lifetime as Assembly of God, with much soul searching to join the catholic church. Now I am told my endeavor was bogus. Not happy. Presently unchurched. Angry. No interest whatsoever in an unintelligible foreign language Mass.

Doug Brown Everyone everywhere will have an opinion, ever been to a family reunion 😂 The Novus Ordo, Latin , Eastern Catholic are all valid forms of celebrating Mass. There can be diversity within unity! Can I give you some advice? Stay away from sites like this- it just doesn’t bare good fruit- stay focused on the word of God, read about early church history, explore the other lung of Catholicism( Eastern Catholics, they have a completely different approach to spirituality). I like Trent Horn and Brant Pitre for theology. Gabiafterhours is a good you tube channel. Find any Catholic Church that you feel at home in- and go to daily Mass. Your not alone in your feelings of anger- I will keep you in my prayers!
@georgepenton808

Doug, the extremists who say that the Novus Ordo Mass is invalid are wrong. The absolute bedrock Catholic doctrine is that any validly ordained priest who says "this is my body" in any language over bread and "this is my blood" over wine changes the bread and wine into Jesus' Body and Blood and that constitutes a Mass. I can understand your hesitancy in attending a Mass where you don't understand the language. I had that problem too. But the spiritual atmosphere the Latin creates outweighs that factor, especially since missalettes are provided with the English translation. The sermon and the Bible readings will be in English; only the liturgical prayers are in Latin.
