The big collection of players you were confused about at 2:43 is called a "Maul". Traditionally you see "Rucks" most of the game. This is when a player is tackled to the ground & both teams can compete over the ball/tackled player, with the attacking team generally retaining possession. A Maul occurs when a player is tackled but stays on their feet & at least 2 more players from the attacking team "bind" onto them & drive towards the goal/try line. There is a lot more details & nuance within both rucks & mauls but hopefully that helps! Mauls occur most often from a lineout (throw in from the sideline), as it can be a great attacking platform, especially close to the opposition goal/try line.

As a South African, America has taken some massive strides in rugby over the last few years. They deserve their flowers - and if they keep at it, they'll keep going from strength to strength. And if there's one thing the USA isn't known for, is giving up when they set their sights on something.

Everyone has to start somewhere, I'm a firm believer that America will become one of the best teams in the future. Many people have suggested that fewer teams (currently 20) should play in the Rugby world cup. They contend that the lower ranked teams have no chance anyway, and that the 'runaway' scores achieved by the top ranking teams against low ranking teams skews player stats. While this may be mostly true and upsets are rare, they do occur and make for incredible glory for those teams and their supporters. Japan, for example saw a lasting improvement in their rankings after beating South Africa once. In 1995 (West) Samoa made it to the quarter finals. In addition to following the Springboks patriotically, I also like to follow the matches of the underdogs - it's good rugby.

Look as a South African I always say. If the USA starts taking rugby more seriously they would be a force to recon with. The amount of talent and athletes in that country is unsurpassed by smaller nations like SA. However because of their NFL being somewhat of a religious following it will take years for them to take up more rugby. I also have to add the 7s is bringing the fans in USA something they like. Honestly it would be nice seeing the larger nations take up the sport. Just a last note. I think it was in 2007 world cup. The guy that you said scored 5 tries is Brian Habana. He was known as the fastest man in rugby at the stage and the USA winger outran him for a brilliant score. The USA winger was a zimbabwean but he scored for the Eagles none the less
