As a conservative myself and looking at the comment section, it's clear that short form videos like these, while affective at drawing the attention of left-aligned folks, is quite ineffective at actually budging them ideologically or even considering a conservative counter-case to viewing things. I think this might simply be due to deeper beliefs like the concept of systemic oppression, for example, which leave them totally agreeing with Amala during the first half of the video when it comes to "racist conservatives" and utterly confused at the end. They didn't get the point, not because there wasn't one, but because only conservative-minded folks will be able to make the connections necessary to have that "OHHHHH" moment. A different strategy will ultimately be needed to have genuine conversations with people and change their minds...which unironically is what "Change My Mind" and street-discussion-format videos are quite successful at when done with charity and patience.

Hatred is a pretty simple phenomenon psychologically, it is an emotional reaction based on: anger + fear + disgust. As an emotion hatred is very dangerous because the component of disgust give permission to kill what one hates rather than just flee or fight what one might be afraid of or angry at. We also know from Prof. Jonathan Haidt's research that the disgust reaction is more pronounced among liberals than conservatives - which explains a lot.

1. Abortion is murder, I don’t disagree with that. It’s also a medical procedure that should be employed when deemed medically necessary; the government shouldn’t have a say in something to personal. 2. I know you hate to hear this but, Critical Race Theory. If old, white men have been making the laws almost exclusively throughout our country’s history, how much of those laws, even subconsciously or subtextually, benefit that same demographic? 3. America is the only country that disregards climate change; scientifically this is happening and should be regulated as we only have one planet to live on right now. Many conservatives deny that it’s even happening, including some of the ones in power. Speaking of power, all for Nuclear, just be safe about it. 4. People with dangerous or homicidal behaviors shouldn’t have firearms; I believe in the Second Amendment but, if you knew someone would shoot someone else, might as well make it harder for them to get ahold of a firearm. 5. Calling out a bigot for bigotry is intolerance, yes, but in that regard, both parties in this context have free speech and freedom of expression. If you call my trans friend the wrong pronoun, I’ll do what I can to avoid you, or I’ll confront you for such behavior, as I consider it uncouth. Many times the word "evil" is not used but it is implied. Leadership does this because they need votes. How do you get votes? You have to get your side to think that the other side is as bad as you can possibly imagine to get your side motivated to vote. Most people are lemmings. They follow the leadership on their side. People who are open minded, willing to learn, and stick to proven facts tend to see a larger picture and become conservative. People who are driven by their feelings alone, tend to stagnate and can’t, or refuse to, see the bigger picture. I am an ex-fundamentalist christian who is now a humanist and an athiest. I do not hate or even dislike conservative people. I have many close friends and family who are conservative and their beliefs could not possibly bring me to hate them. I do, however, possess a strong dislike toward conservative *thinking* . I came to this video after seeing a one minute add for it explaining why someone might dislike conservative people. I was intruiged and, despite knowing pragerU's less-than-stellar reputation, I was hoping to find a new perspective on these topics that would give me better insight as to why right-leaning people think the way that they do. Instead, I heard absolutely *nothing* new and left feeling a bit baited. Since I already feel as though my time was wasted, I may as well explain why. I'll go down the list of talking points and give my thoughts: 1. Abortion This one really interested me because I'm so used to conservatives saying the exact same thing over and over again no matter how many times I talk with them and was really hoping to hear something new. Instead, I was met with the unfortunate trend of this video, which is to insist that I don't know how conservatives think and then proceed to explain that I know *exactly* how conservatives think by giving the same argument I've heard time and time again. I *already know* that conservatives think a fetus should have the right to use a woman's body as long as it needs to. I *disagree* . We do not grant the right to use someone else's organs without their consent to *anyone else in the United States* , no matter what. The right to bodily autonomy is the foundation of human rights, why should the fetus have that exclusive right over women *exclusively* when nobody else has it? You can disagree with my stance, but that's not really my point anyway. My point is that the speaker seems to believe that people on the left somehow haven't heard the most basic and fundamental abortion talking point of conservative people, which I find truly bizarre. 2. Systemic Racism This one will be pretty quick because the conservative stance the speaker put forward can be effectively summarized as "Well, we know you think conservatives deny that systemic issues exist, but *actually* . . . yeah, we don't think systemic racism is a thing." I could'a told you that. 3. Climate Change "We know you think that conservatives are Climate deniers, but *actually* . . . yeah, we don't trust Climate Scientists and if it turns out that their right we'll deal with it later." As an aside, calling Nuclear energy "renewable" is an outright lie. Nuclear energy is *recyclable* , which is completely different. The radioactive waste can be re-purposed, but it cannot be naturally *renewed* . It's also, y'know, radioactive and therefore extremely hazardous. This dishonesty was either the result of an unbelievable oversight on the part of the researcher(s) or a deliberate attempt to further discourage trust in climate activists. Either way, shameful. 4. Gun control Yet another case of the speaker insisting that I don't know how conservative people think only to demonstrate that I know exactly how conservatives think. I'm aware that conservatives feel that they need firearms to protect themselves from the Q."bad guys". I disagree. Here are a few reasons. First off, America has a *ridiculously high* gun death rate, even rivaling countries with no gun restrictions whatsoever. While it was nice of the speaker to point out that gun laws and restrictions do exist in all states to some extent, it would have been nicer of her to mention that every time a regulatory measure is proposed it is *actively opposed* by the right. Those state regulations exist despite the best efforts of right-wing politicians. And even now, the reason that "the bad guys" can still get guns so easily is because there's *nothing stopping them* . Getting a gun in the US is insanely easy, especially in the south. Second, if keeping guns around is exclusively for protection, then that only reasonably entitles you to a handgun and maaaybe a homekept shotgun. You certainly don't need a rifle, and nothing semiautomatic. Hell, we could probably get rid of 90% of guns available on the market and there really shouldn't be any pushback whatsoever from conservatives! Lastly, guns aren't your only security option. Why not get a taser gun? It's non-lethal and gets the job done. 5. Not wanting to address people by their preferred pronouns This one was especially grating. She effectively said "Well if you think I should respect you, why can't *you* respect *me* not wanting to respect you?" The speaker used the word 'tolerance' a lot. She did so because it's a conservative buzzword and for no other reason. I don't use the word tolerance, because tolerance is a low bar. I use the word 'respect' because that's what this is actually about. Someone wants to be referred to in a way that makes them feel like themselves and you don't want to give them that respect because you do not respect them as a person. And *I* do not respect someone who uses their beliefs/religion to justify belittling or ignoring someone's identity, mostly because you can use religion to justify *anything* . I can respect any religion insomuch that it doesn't come into conflict with human decency. When personal beliefs and basic humanity clash, humanity wins full-stop. She had me in the first half though. It *doesn't* hurt you to address people by their preferred pronouns. So, maybe just do that? 6. Authoritarianism "Libs think we're trying to install a theocracy and take away rights, but we're actually in favor of freedom!" "Didn't you guys just ban abortion?" ". . ." Nuff said. All in all, I walked away from this feeling a bit empty. There was nothing to learn or apply to myself, just a bunch of tired, reductive talking points that do nothing for me. That being said, if anyone wants to give me a genuinely *new* perspective I'd be open to hearing it! Till then, ciao

I'm not conservative, but I do have an insight that may help explain why they to a fault refuse to expand on any stated beliefs. It's because conservatism isn't an ideology, it's a reactionary vibe. Facts are ignored or invented at their leisure, there are no moral principles justifying why they believe what they do, and they rarely if ever acknowledge their opponents. It is purely an exercise in what they feel at a given moment, all other factors change per situation. Which is why they're suddenly saying they oppose war, yet demand we nuke Beijing. Why they get so upset about pedophilia, yet do everything they can to make it systemic. Why gun restrictions suddenly are a great idea the moment some minority is seen with one. Why they stirr themselves into a frenzy over illegal immigration, but never connect the foreign policy they support as the cause. These are just a few examples, as for why or how anyone thinks likes this I can't begin to tell you. I don't think it's willful ignorance exactly, but the longer you deal with conservatives the more you notice these values they claim to have are dropped at a moment's notice. Best I've been able to figure is that it's like how everyone desperately tries to justify to themselves that they're still the good guy, their capacity for self delusion is just more fluid.

For climate, I don't know many progressives that are against nuclear power at all, so not sure where this talking point came about. Also, there is very strong evidence climate change is real. If anything, I would hope conservatives are against pollution. Where I disagree strongly is on economic issues and I find conservative to be very unaware on the issues even today. Just to list a basic fact, the average wage of Americans has remained the same for the last 40 years adjusted for inflation. This stagnation in wages occured after the big deregulation movement started by Reagan. Matt stoller write very informative pieces on monopolies that conservatives would do well to read on substack. If conservatives want a decentralized economy with many small businesses and many supply chains that can weather supply chain disruptions, I think they should favor regulation. Also, taxes. The rich do not pay their fair share, because they report no income which is absurd. Also, 40% of federal income taxes talk point is laughably misleading. Americans pay most their federal taxes in payroll tax. Lastly, don't believe the propaganda of the uniparty.
