Nate Berglund we always used an SUV for hauling lumber, sod, oversized cabinets. Everything! We dragged all the wood for a large deck in it. We needed a truck about 20 years ago. Even tho the SUV did it all, once we got a pickup it was so much easier and was way better.

I have a SUV, and a 14' cargo trailer, works for me. Walk in loading, keeps everything dry, easy to tow. I also have an open flatbed trailer with sideboards for gravel, dirt, and mulch or anything else that I don't want in my cargo trailer. Pickups are nice to have, but with what I have, I just don't need one.

I could camp, put my little MINI car inside and take it with me. I could put my 1955 antique 18 Lyman haul it to a boat show and not to have to touch up the paint that stones hit it . Could also take my wooden Jet Ski on trips with me. Have a lot of fun.. I loved my Dodge Dooley with the Cummings and the 4 wheels on the rear. It made the trip with NO SWAY. Solid ride. Happy traveling. By the way you video was so great you are the FIRST one I ever subscribed to. Thanks. By the way I produce and direct safety videos other types. Great job.

The firebird is so much more nimble and nicer to drive than the truck (which does kinda handle like crap as of late and the tranny's lockup is acting weird) it all evens out. The truck is just sluggish. I also have a 2000 neon (was free), but it has a shifting problem I'm working on, so it's the DD backup.

Why should you not buy a truck: 1.smoke trucks specially in corners 2.more comfy ride 3.fuel economy 4.much better driving performance, like much shorter braking distance , better esc, better...you know 5.better options and features for the same price 6. Less noise while driving 7.wont run kids over who suddenly jump out in between two parked cars in tight roads. 8. Easier parking Now there are more I couldnt think of but just consider these 8 points and now think is it worth it to get a truck for once a year flood that might happen or once a 4 month camping trip or such things? cant you just rent a truck for camping trips?

I have owned a 4x4 truck and a car for quite a while but the truck has always been older and higher mileage. I drive the truck when I want to haul or tow something or go somewhere the car would have difficulty going. Or if there is snow, 4wd is nice to have. But in reality I own a truck because I want to. I just don't feel the need to own a new or practically new truck and spend a lot of money for it. I just can't justify the expense. I feel every person(or at least every household) should own at least 2 vehicles and the obvious choices are a fuel mileage car and a truck. Any household can afford 2 vehicles just not 2 new vehicles. If you only own one vehicle and it breaks down, then you have nothing to drive. I'm single myself but I see married couples that only own one vehicle between the 2 of them. That would drive me insane sharing one vehicle with my wife.

Uh well maybe it's because that if it's well maintained it may be the last vehicle you have to buy. Which in the long run is economical. It is practical for people passed their muscle car age (not that I don't love the classic Detroit street rods) and its better for those of us who know we're not a secret agent and don't need a full time sports car. It's a vehicle for those of us who sit in a chair at the dinner table or computer station but find that for some odd reason we have to lie down when driving a car. It's for those of us who don't like vehicles with headroom for a person five feet tall and legroom for s basketball player with the result that our heads hit the ceiling and our legs barely reach the pedals as in most cars for decades till they finally got the message and increased rooflines. It's for people who wear thick layers of winter clothes and heavy winter foot gear and know that putting everything from people and laptops to equipment and tool boxes when heading out to the job site is just to much for that sexy little foreign two seater. Its for people who don't like the bone jarring 1920's ride of a contemporary sedan because it's got suspension more appropriate for lapping Daytona than giving your middle aged back a break over a 300 mile trip. It's for people who don't want to break a rim everytime they hit anything larger than a marginal bump. The modern pickup has complimented the large family car of yester year with added ground clear and higher visibility . Despite the efforts to convince us we are something different than what we are we still want a solid version of a not overly flashy family real world vehicle. The F series is the overall number one selling vehicle and in the car category it's the Camry which is the latest interpretation of the more conventional family sedan. We are like it or not A Camry culture , an F series (yes of course along with a Silverado, Sierra and Ram) culture and our favourite color is brown. And that's why personal transportation will always in terms of mega sales numbers reflect these themes.

I always have fun with this. With my DIESEL 4x4 truck I can CARRY as many or more people more comfortably than you can in your car. I can TOW a house and should I feel obligated, I can COMPETE in the 1/4 mile. Making HP is simple and your car will not be able to keep up with my TORQUE curve....ever. Should I need to, I can go MUDDING or PULL someone from the mud. Hit the TRAILS or take RISKY shortcuts. Move your GIRLFRIEND in to my house. BLOCK your view from whats coming up down the road and lastly, should we get into a CRASH a, 3/4 ton is gonna WIN more times than not. From a fuel standpoint I don't rely on gas so.... next time a hurricane comes through, I'll be gong down the road towing YOUR car because I'm such a great guy. I own 2 cars and 1 truck. :)

The Toyota Highlander has a 5,000 pound tow rating. The Sienna has a 3500 pound tow rating. They use the same engine, transmission, and other running gear. The Sienna weighs only a little more. Do you know why there is such a huge difference? If it is due to the higher CAPACITY of the Sienna, then an empty Sienna should be able to tow 5,000 pounds with no problem. What say you Big T RV?
@BigTruckBigRV
7 жыл бұрын
A Marmot: there are so many factors that manufacturers use to determine the ratings. Many are based on the tongue weight capacity of the hitch receiver. The frame of the vehicle can also play a factor as does suspension design and even ground clearance. The Highlander sits much higher and thus affords it the ability to have a rear suspension and frame design that can handle a heavier hitch weight. This is probably the main reason for the higher towing capacity.
@chrismcelroy7915
7 жыл бұрын
Sometimes it's just brakes that make a difference in tow rating and GVWR. I once had 2 f250's that appeared to be identical but one had a GVWR of 8500 and the other was 8800. Found that the only difference was one had 2.5 inch wide rear brake shoes and the other had 3 inch wide.

Big Truck Big RV I will also present this question, why is towing capacity higher over in Europe versus here stateside? For example my car's European cousin, the Opel Vectra C, has a towing capacity of around 2800 pounds. However my car (Chevy Malibu, don't worry mechanically they're identical, just different looks) has a 0 pound towing rating. Or how about the Ram promaster and twin Fiat Ducato. The Ducato is around 8000 pounds for the 3.0 4cyl diesel, while here the 3.0 4 cyl diesel is only 5,000 pounds, with everything else being the same. Why are vehicles rated lower here?
@Noi5ee
7 жыл бұрын
Personally i prefer driving a car. I wouldn't drive a truck except for trips where i specifically need its hauling capabilities. The question arises probably because of the type of people who have a truck literately just to show off or annoy cyclist with diesel smoke etc. But those are a minority, so assuming people have a truck "just to have one" is a bit judgemental, most people who have one, actually have need for it.

Why do I have 2 trucks because I have two pieces of land four and a half acres each two and a half hours apart because we moved to new land that we own and I have a 30 horsepower diesel tractor that needs to be moved back and forth that's why I have a diesel truck and a one ton gas Suburban end of story.

I have a truck because I live in northern BC and we get this thing called 5 million tonnes of white bullshit, otherwise known as Snow, I live on the edge of a snowbelt, where a little bit more than 5 million tonnes falls, I have pulled out many cars that got stuck in the ruts formed from the roads never being plowed until enough people complain, or it snows 3 feet in 1 sitting, but even then we are lucky to see a plow for 3 days, which by then they might as well not even come because by that time the roads are already compacted and flattened down by the people that live out here.

how often do your roads get cleared though? if they are on it as soon as the snow hits the ground then thats good, where I live we are lucky to see a plow a week or 3 after, last year a fire truck and a cop and the wrecker they had sent out to get them unstuck all got stuck because the roads never got plowed after it snowed 3 feet.

Justin Bechtel in my neighborhood, a plow usually only goes through once a week or so. They mainly prioritize for the interstate and other high traffic routes
@The_JEB

where I live they are supposed to prioritize School Bus Routes -> Highways -> Emergency routes -> High traffic areas and then the rest 3/4 of the roads around where I live, including the one I live on are school bus routes, yet they very rarely get plowed. It's really annoying.

Justin Bechtel my road is also a school bus route, but it gets plowed at the same time as the rest of the neighborhood :/

I've seen people out where I live get so mad they spend the day with their own plow trucks plowing the roads, and honestly, they do a better job than the plow trucks and graders.

Simple answer. Because I want it. If they can't take that justification, tell them to move on. You are under no obligation to have to explain your choices to others.

Amazes me why others would even get in someone else business, that drives me crazy. I remember when I used to smoke, and people would give me that public service announcement and tell me "You know smoking kills people" and I would respond to them "You know what else kills people, getting it other peoples business" great video! I need a truck because I want one!

I recently bought a 2017 F250 King Ranch and I can't count on both hands and feet the number times I've already been asked "Why do you need such a big and expensive truck?" My response is always the same "I don't need it, I wanted it." This always ruffles their feathers. LoL. I don't even bother telling them that I'm the only person in my family in my local area that owns a truck and that last year, with my old truck, I was at Home Depot or Lowes almost every weekend between April and September picking up and hauling something for someone. Not to mention my own landscaping needs. Plus, it's my daily driver and I just love trucks.

Preston Weiters Jr. What roads can't you go on in a pickup?
@prestonweitersjr.9460
7 жыл бұрын
4/13/17, Those roads that say "no trucks/commercials." For instance: I'm in NJ, some parts of Garden State Parkway are off-limits to trucks; some roads such as Grand Central Pkwy in NY or Palisades Pkwy, NJ. Such roads don't allow pickups, vans w/no side/rear windows, trailers. If that's ok then fine, just so you know you may have to take a commercial route w/some vehicles. I know it's dumb but did you know, for instance, a large motor home is allowed on the Henry Hudson Pkwy in NY but a truck isn't? That you can have bicycles strapped to your vehicle on some roads but not a ladder? That you can't have on some roads any commercial/advertisement on your vehicle? And if you--oyvey--have comm plates, well........buzz off.."no comm traffic."

I was hit head on in my 01 ram 2500 ctd at about 40 mph. other car was a Buick regal. it bounced off, spun 360 degrees and the driver needed jaws of life to get her out. my truck slid five feet to the right and stopped. airbags didn't even deploy. truck was totaled but my only injury was a sore finger.

Yeah man I had a ford contour pull right out in front of my 92 Cummins at 25 mph. Broke all the glass on the passenger side of the car and bent the thing in half, I pounded my bumper away from my front right tire with my sledge hammer and drove the truck home!

I've got a 1973 Chevy K10 --- I was hit in the rear at 40 mph by a Toyota Prius. The ONLY damage to the truck was two broken bumper bolts, causing the bumper to rotate downwards at a slight angle. I drove home and had the truck "as good as new" in about 10 minutes. The Toyota? Well, it was totaled. (And the dumbass Toyota driver was furious because I had to stop for oncoming traffic.)

I don't think you should be bothered about just saying "and because I want one too". Realistically a lot of people could get by without owning a truck, or even a second car for example, but if you want one for convenience or comfort or ease, then that's fine too. It'd arguably be silly to own a truck that's costing you money in depreciation and maintenance that just sits on your drive not being used until the one trip you go on a year when instead you could just hire a really nice one for that trip and not have to worry about maintenance and such, unless of course you can afford it and that's how you want to spend your money. I own an SUV, but I leave it parked for a whole fortnight at times because I live in a city and don't need it, but I enjoy having it and maintaining it and I think of it as a hobby, and if someone needs me to help move something or tow something or a vehicle is stuck I can go help them and I enjoy doing that.

As a midsize pickup truck owner I see both sides to the story. What really bugs me though is people overcompensating for insecurities by getting a massive truck yet never use it for what it's designed for. They don't have a trailer, they don't have a boat nor do they rarely load anything in the back let alone go to Home Depot. All they seem to do is clog up public parking ramps and piss people off. Sure anybody can buy anything you want no questions asked. But it does length of wonder what's going on in your mind and for the most part I don't want to know LOL

4/13/17, For less than $1k you can invest in a small trailer & hitch. I have a Taurus, that was 1 of the best things I ever got. My trailer is rated for 1650 LBS. I'll not likely get even close to that for what I need to do.
@DVeck89
7 жыл бұрын
@Preston Weiters Jr. you're going to be more limited by your Taurus' towing capacity and tongue weight limit than the trailer's rating.

4/13/17, The trailer's rating is 1650 LBS. I'm unlikely to ever get even close to that. It does what I need it to do which is what you want from any machine.
@DVeck89
7 жыл бұрын
I'm saying, make sure your car can handle that. A car like that probably only has a towing capacity of 1000 lbs and tongue weight limit of 1 or 200 lbs. Just because the trailer can handle a load doesn't mean your car (safely) can.
@DVeck89
7 жыл бұрын
The car rating would include the weight of your trailer too so if the trailer weighs 400lb you can really only load 600lb of stuff on it

Big Truck Big RV. You and I are in the same boat. What you say is exactly what I say to other people that has the same mentality. Owning a truck is a blessing and also a curse. Everyone wants to use your truck to haul everyone elses stuff. I tell just get a truck for yourself. don't have to be a 3/4 or 1 ton. just get a 1/2 ton. The reason why I only drive truck or suv, is because when I was in high school some lady t-bone me in my buick. which spun and rolled. I had to wait until fire and ems to come and cut me out. Ever since that moment I went into a full size truck.
