Unfortunately as Russia has proven, autocracies don't particularly like democracies on their borders.. it is also well known that same autocracies are extremely greedy when it comes to land.. so unless China implodes and its people decide they want a democratic leadership (which is highly unlikely), then I'm afraid it is only a matter of time until so called "reunification" happens.. the best we can hope for is a diplomatic one, where Taiwan and China come to some sort of agreement.. otherwise, if it's through military means, then I'm afraid it could and most likely would escalate into a regional war, with perhaps even US getting involved..

China does not hate Lithuania, Lithuania treating Taiwan as a country is actually an action to break "One China Policy"(even the US dare not to break this policy) and offend China by interfering with their internal affairs, nevertheless China is not so aggressive, just imposed some kinds of sanctions to punish Lithuania. By the way, recently the Russian parliament denied to recognize Lithuania as independent country, according to the international law, Lithuania is still a province of Russian Federation, it is nature for Russia to claim sovereign over Lithuanian territory, in principle, the country that abides by international law should support Russian unification of Lithuanian territory. At that point, should China abide by the international law or not?

it is just competition between china and the US. all nation borders are results of last war. I have no idea why you are still living in fairy tale? Lithuanian does not give a fuck abou taiwan, it needs to get more profits from Amerca rather than China. there are no friendships among countries, only interest matters. For the competition, currently Lithuania can get more from the US, there are many US armies in Europe and it needs help from America to fight with Russia while China is too far away from Europe, messing up China is a good way to prove loyaty and gain profits. For countris that rely less on America, they don't mess up China for Taiwan as they dont wanna lose china market, and no interest in maintaining relationship with taiwan. Lithuania just wants to find help to fight Russia, it has nothing to do with something else.

China doesn’t hate Lithuania. It hates countries that interferes with its internal affairs. Likewise, I am sure Lithuanians would be furious if the Chinese government starts interfering with local Lithuanian politics. China is only standing out for its own interests. It was unfairly provoked into a fight by Lithuanian politicians keen to use the Taiwan issue into boosting their own political profile and win elections. If those politicians are so keen about promoting peace, how about promoting Palestinian rights or helping out the refugee crisis in Northern Africa & the Middle East? After all, that is an issue concerning the EU, a big player in that conflict, which Lithuania is a part of and one that is much closer to home.

Northern Africa and Middle East issues are concerns of nations that has borders with them. Europe Union by many are seen and perceived as an econimal and peaceful contract to trade and travel, but everyone still minds own business. Also South Europe countries shoupd have stricter policies about immigration. And nope, we won't solve every country issues. We can voice our opinion and stand for someone we relate and like. For example I don't really care about crisis in Middle East as there turbulances always were and I think we are culturally and politically too different. Also most of European countries minding their own business and interest and are mostly concerned about countries that can impact their economy or their country safety directly so for example Norway, Denmark and Baltic states are a least of interest to countries like Greece and Italy. These countries will be more mindful of what Germany, France, Spain does as they have a bigger impact on them. Likewise Lithuania won't mind too much whats going on in Middle East and in South Europe.

As for the Taiwan policy, the video clearly stated that the policy is not popular in Lithuania and will no doubt be changed in the next election. The policy serves no practical economical benefit and just hurts the country economically. A far more important question that you should ask " Why does Lithuania hate Russia?" It is suggested on this video by "someone" that Russia has pressured Lithuania. Since I am not fully acquainted with Lithuania's relations with Russia over the last three decades, I would sincerely like to know about some of these pressures. As a practical matter,just as we personally have no choice in choosing our neighbors,neither does Lithuania nor any other country. Sooner rather than later, Lithuania will have deal with its Russian and Bielorus neighbors economicaly and socially. Sooner rather than later ,greater Europe will need to straighten its own house,as will the US ,and when that day comes Lithuania may well be isolated and alone if it doesn't change its attitude.

Lithuania was annexed by the USSR after WWII and it only earned back its independence in 1990. Ever since the fall of the USSR, Russia’s external policy was to try to regain its influence in eastern europe. The baltic states feel threatened by Russia, since Russia might try to invade them in the future to either annex their territories or install puppet dictatorships. The baltic states don’t have the necessary resources to resist a Russian invasion. The only thing that deters Russia from invading them is their NATO memberships, so essentially US protection. Thus, it is in their interest to align themselves as closely as possible to the US, which explains Lithuania’s position with regard to the ‘One China Policy’. And, tbh, ever since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine the whole EU is ‘de facto’ at war with Russia. The relationship with Russia is very unlike to improve in the foreseeable future. What we have right now is essentially an iron curtain 2.0 between Russia and Belarus on one side, and the rest of europe on the other side.
@lupaucatalin985
2 жыл бұрын
With regard to why Europe and Russia cannot get along, the reason is simply because Russia is an imperialistic authoritarian power trying to extend their sphere of influence. They have continually done so throughout their entire history. The Europeans want to live in democratic societies, but they lack the necessary means to defend themselves. Thus, they accept the US’s sphere of influence instead in order to deter Russia. Note that this is mainly true for the eastern europeans. Some western european countries, such as Germany, would rather prefer to maintain friendly relations with Russia due to economic interests. However, this would go against the US’s geopolitical interests. The US’s influence in western europe is still quite strong, so they are doing everything possible to prevent such a collaboration. A German-Russian alliance would threaten the security and independence of eastern europe, so the interests of most eastern europeans converge with the US in this regard. There is actually a plan, called the Three Seas Initiative, with the purpose of creating a vertical economic corridor in eastern europe that would strengthen the eastern european countries and help them create an economic and military barrier between Germany and Russia with the purpose of preventing any future collaboration. This plan is, obviously, heavily backed up by the US. At the same time, most eastern european countries are part of the EU and depend heavily on Germany from an economic perspective. So going geopolitically fully against Germany is not an option. Germany also has very strong economic ties with the US, so they cannot position themselves on a fully complementary geopolitical position with respect to the US. And this only touches the surface :). So all in all, the european / western geopolitical structure is very complex and involves many balancing games between ‘frenemies’.
@lupaucatalin985

With regard to pressure, Russia has been threatening a lot of european countries with missiles and nukes lately. Speeches about hitting Germany with nukes, wiping the UK from the face of the earth or running ethnic genocide campaigns against eastern europeans have become very common among russian officials. A week ago, I think, my country, Romania, was threatened with saturn missiles, for example. So you can imagine that the baltic countries, which are in a very vulnerable position strategically, are freaking out.

@@lupaucatalin985 Lupau could you please expound on what Russian external policies have been used used on Lithuania,and the other balts . I'd like some specifics rather than generalizations. I am aware of Lithuania's status prior to 1991.I am referring to the last three decades. As far as I know ,Russia has not attacked or threatened to attack neither Finland nor the Balts during the last three decades. From my standpoint , if the US weakens internally, NATO may weaken ,and the balts will suffer from cardiac failure. ,since they hate the Russian so and ,heaven forbid, will be forced to deal with their Russian neighbors Do you see my point? As for Taiwan , I see no connection here with Russian hatred. It only served the country to shoot itself in the foot,really. I found it thoroughly embarassing when Lithuania went to the EU complaining about Chinese retaliation and went to EU countries ,like Germany ,which does 300 billion euros of business with China ,to retaliate on an action that the Lithuanians unilaterally did!
@lupaucatalin985

With regard to having to deal with Russia and Belarus economically and socially, I don’t think it will be the case. Europe is trying to break economic ties with Russia as soon as possible. Once Europe manages to gain its energy independence, most trade between the EU and Russia will be gone. Also, as of right now, I don’t think that traveling between the 2 political entities is possible anymore. The west’s plan is to try to cripple the russian economy so badly that they will never be able to attempt another invasion again. If things go well, we might even see certain autonmous provinces breaking away from the Russian Federation. The ideal scenario would be to cause a regime change in Russia, but, unfortunately, it seems unlikely to happen for now.
