Coffee and tea being naturally bitter is partly why we have too much sugar in our diets🙃

I purchased a Saeco automatic from your company. How can the burr grinder be “cleaned”? I tried Urnex Grindz tablets, and the result was less than Impressive.

Maybe my taste buds are a bit strange. I have a problem telling if coffee is bitter or sour. It just tastes bad but I'm not quite sure which.

You’re not alone, that’s called bitter/ sour confusion. Keep exercising your sensory skills, they can improve. Try calibrating against different foods, for example: A lemon is sour of course, but the outside peel is bitter!

I've been told that bitterness is often caused by over-extraction of base chemicals, which (allegedly) extract late in the brewing process. So, theoretically, adjusting to a larger grind, which will allow faster brewing, will fix this. But... Caffeine (a base) is amongst the bitterest flavors, and is usually stated to be amongst the first to extract. I can't square these two claims in my head. Do bases extract first or last...or all throughout? Or is caffeine not a base? Or, are there a lot of claims being tossed around by so-called "experts" that have little basis in reality?

Hi. Maybe you can test it yourself by brewing a batch and collecting every few seconds in a separate cup then use a pH meter and checking? You seem well versed. What are your thoughts? It would be very cool to see this test especially because they say acids and oils are first to extract... your probably right. Some chemicals that are bitter come out all the way through and later in the extraction it pulls more bitters out. Thank you for the ideas. Please let me know 😊

I found that, on my Behmor, if I get into 2nd crack the coffee will be bitter and ashy. If I roast just up to 2nd crack, it is not too bitter, although individual tastes will vary. Roasting up to but not into 2nd crack seems to roast a coffee that is dark with a few oils forming on the beans the following day without being noticeably bitter.

I'm new to coffee and I love! ❤ the flavor of fresh ground coffee, but I'm going to have to exit this java experiment 😕 because I can't handle the bitterness of the coffee. It has destroyed my palate, it's so bitter that I can't taste my lunch or dinner!, I've tried everything mentioned in this video to no avail. I tried going to 5 different coffee shops here in San Diego to see if anyone would help me, but instead I was treated with massive amounts of snobbery and condescension served with smug smiles. So goodbye! quality coffee world, 🤮hello grocery store smoothness. 🥰 May you all bask in the bitterness of the specialty coffee world in peace!☮ Take care

On my Encore grinder, my decaf gets bitter if I'm just 2 notches too fine. I'm amazed just how small a difference that made. Also, my decaf needs 3 notches finer than my regular coffee.
