Thanks so much for this, I'm 15 and started working out a small while ago, my hip popping during ab exercises was always concerning to me to the point where I would elect not to do them out of fear that I would cause damage to my body. Thanks to the clarity in which you explained the issue and the solution I'm now much more comfortable in the fact that it is something I can work towards fixing which would make me feel much more safe when doing the exercises in future. Edit: I was doing the glute stretches for about 5 minutes after viewing the video and noticed an immediate difference, there was no clicking when doing abdominal exercises such as leg raises. This will absolutely become a part of my routine from now on.

As a massage therapist, we were told in school that using the foam roller directly on the IT band is no bueno. Instead, working on the muscles alongside it should be advised, so this will require more angling rather than directly laying on the side of the band.
@MelThePhysio

It is true this has become a very controversial topic these days :) but if you have been in the health or fitness industry for a while you will learn to take all information with a grain of salt :) science and the medical world is an ever changing topic, we discover new research all the time hence keeping up with new research are important but not disregarding the old ones is also important:) throughout my years rehabilitating people I do find that a large percentage of people do still benefit from rolling their ITB :) albeit you are absolutely right itb is indeed a tissue not a muscles but foam rolling like how you have research saying it doesn’t help, you will also find research that have shown that sustained pressure may help to reduce fascial adhesions and soften the targeted tissues, compression and decompression can assist fluid flow to congested areas, which may well be helpful to maintaining healthy tissues, improving nerve ending stimulation which facilitate better proprioception to the area. Science is always changing and I won’t encourage people to completely disregard certain treatment type just because of recent research results, as over the years you will see it will probably change up quite a fair bit :) It all depends on individual and how they react to different treatment as well. If you have found in the past foam roller itb doesn’t work for you then yes it’s probably not the best treatment options for you :)

So helpful! Ive always had a very pronounced click in my right hip when lowering my right leg during leg raises on my back. I just thought my hip was weird and would avoid exercises that caused the clicking🙈. I have been riding and jumping horses for about 15 years and definitely have "stronger" and "tighter" right leg and seat. So I could see how stiffness and tightness in the body could contribute to clicking. I never thought it could possibly be something fixed by stretching! Definitely going to incorporate those stretches into my day to day. Thanks 😊

Honestly thank you!!!! the iliopsoas stretch almost immediately fixed my hip pop (Which I have had for years and I don't know why I never searched up a cure). One thing tho, when I do it in the kneeling position I find a painful stretching feeling in my knees, so I do it in a standing position with my knee hovering over the ground and it works as well.

so helpful! have dealt this front hip popping for years now, had seen a physiatrist but was told it wasn't concerning... i wasn't aware of the first exercise shown, hope it will eventually get rid of my hip pops :) hope you do one on knees cracking, as one of mine has been cracking when i kneel down for pretty much half of my life (i'm 20!) & it feels odd despite not really hurting (at least immediately - if i purposefully crack it repetedly it'll feel weird). i've been active my whole life, mostly practicing gymnastics and dance. thank you! :D
