How has a narcissist made you feel like you don't exist?

My ex would had constatly talk and talk about how bad things are in his bussines knowing I am a consultant of BUSINESS! So it was very frustrating because he acted as he didnt know me at all and when I offered help or advice, he would answer with stuff like; "Well unless you can make people work again" "I already do that" and he always made me feel bad, like i didnt know anything so i didnt have a voice. Also, now we just break up he did that to me again, said "we will be friends" and five minutes later he blocked me from everywhere.

My narc husband of 35 years has NEVER called me by my name. No pet names either. Nothing.

No matter how obvious toxic people are in their toxic behavior, the most baffling part is they will never admit they are doing it on purpose. Even when caught red-handed.

My son found an excuse to not visit me on every holiday of the year but I kept sending money to help get his new family on their feet. Yet he was always able to meet the in-laws instead. I'm almost sure that my daughter in-law knows nothing about the many times I sent money. To resist the bait of complaining or accepting the left over visits, I stopped sending anymore money and it was very very hard. I had to learn a lot about tough love. However as a result, I grew so much as a person and I'm free of the trauma bonding of emotional abuse. I really feel like I'm living again and not just surviving alone. I even started dating again (my wife passed away 18 years ago) and I'm now enjoying being around someone who is a truly empathic and loving person.

Thank you for sharing! It is very hard to resist taking the bait and that is why it can be so effective as a way to draw people into the crazy-making.

Sometimes the way they act is so unbelievably cruel, it feels like I can't put the words together to describe it. It's not just the cruelty, it's the confusion and the false hope. Their actions are designed specifically to cause maximum pain, so they build you up and wait until you're at your most vulnerable, before letting you down in the most heartless way.

You must feel proud of your new life you made for yourself! If we don't take care of ourselves, no one will. Congrats to you 💚

That is a great example (but I wish you didn’t have firsthand experience). Thank you for sharing. The people reading your comment and knowing they aren’t alone most definitely appreciate your comment! ❤️

After kicking my boyfriend out due to his actions not matching his words during a 3 year relationship, my sister (& once good friend) took him under her wing & had him move next to her, while never even asking me what happened or contacting me at all or expressing any kind of concern for me. I learned later what she's about & how that's a classic narcissistic maneuver. Needless to say, I'm done with her. But I am so glad I learned this sooner rather than later!

My Narc always chooses work over spending time together. She's says she's worried about money. It's not that. She simply feels most in control while working. Everything comes in second to her imaginary safe place. I've given up on expecting attention from her.

My MIL does this to me and her stepdaughter. She doesn’t invite us to holiday gatherings and gets upset when we don’t show up.

And when you do exist, they’re growling about everything. I’m filled up with enough content that I could probably hang a shingle myself to offer advice. Just kidding on that. I know my place in this sphere. A gullible social worker, not a psychologist. I moved on but do realize the videos can be counterproductive, triggering old emotions. It’s all just so fascinating this topic after having actually experienced it firsthand. I am mindful of too much of anything may not be healthy & could set me back on the healing journey. Fine balance between wanting to learn as much as I can(my nature) & moving on. Thank you for your support in speaking in plain terms that resonate right through to my core

You are exactly right! Getting more information can be beneficial but at times can hold you back in moving forward. I am pleased to hear the information I provide has been helpful.

Yeah actually NPD are quite different ( all cluster B commonalities excluded ) from BPD other than they both look to others in there environment to regulate themselves and feel a sense of self identity

Question my narc would not give up dating apps, dirty sites, and women in general while engaged to me so I broke it off, am I wrong in thinking that SUPPLY is given to him from the internet sites why he can't Wont get off even at the cost of losing me?
