From the close-ups, it seems like a lot of small problems given the high cost. I saw swarf, problems with casting/machining and sloppy paint overruns. • 1:01 This steel lever to the left looks deform and there is almost no finish to it what so ever. This applicable to many movement parts in this RM watch. • 1:46 Rotorscrews looks like basic ETA screws and the bevel is very rough and uneven. • 3:25 The cylindrical holes in this bridge have no finish done to them, and you can even spot a small piece of metal that still sits on the piece. Probably a waste product after making the simple sunray finish to the bridge. • 5:10 Look how little attention the bridge for the anchor have been given, just a quick ‘swush on some sandpaper. Also notice the disharmonic shape on the anchor bridge where the jewel is set. • 5:57 Again this is the kind of finish level that ETA would apply.

Thank you for your informative description of the Richard Mille watch. For those who can afford one of these watches, you are getting a high quality, precision made, practically custom made unique timepiece. I may not be able to justify or afford its purchase, but I can marvel at its design and manufacture and be grateful for companies willing to produce it. There is no need to compare a work of art produced by Michelangelo or one painted by numbers, or a Ferrari and a Ford. Both can be appreciated equally by those who wish to. A Richard Mille watch need not be compared, just appreciated.

Just another example of the ludicrous practice of taking things to an absurd level. We have watches costing as much as a house. A car costing as much as a luxury home. And homes costing well over $100 million. I can remember when the most expensive estate in prestigious Beverly Hills cost $400,000. Today, same house sold for $150 million. A cousin of mine bought a tiny shack on the beach in Southern California paying $65,000 in the early 1970s. Today, he tells me it’s worth ten million. Now that’s a joke. It’s not due completely to inflation. Just the inflated cost of things today. That watch is hideous. It looks like crap. I couldn’t care less how much it cost Richard Mille to make a damned screw. The truth is people are being screwed who pay for junk like this.

I love your videos not only because of the you very indulging reviewing skills you acquire, but also the imagery provided and the astonishing macro shots that deeply appreciate the aesthetics of each and every watch you review. When a time piece costs you as much as a decent car, you start to evaluate every single detail on a micro scale. Sometimes i refer to your videos as an alternative for me to have a closer look at some exquisite watches that are not very accessible to me, and i try to justify their price tags by their fascinating finishes and unmatch-able quality. Now the real reason of why many horology snobs and collectors hate Richard Mille became very clear to me after watching this video. I noticed many flaws that are very unacceptable at this whooping price tag. Some of these flaws include defects in some screws shown in close-up shots, bad finishing of some hands and the rubber band also just doesn't make sense. In your video you explained how the cost of production increases when you add the element of uniqueness. But i would always choose to spend my money on quality and finishing, rather than on uniqueness and other production-cost increasing factors.

I see people asking “why would anybody spend 100k on a RM when they can get Patek?” I get asked a lot too and to be honest people who can afford RM already have an abundant collection of watches at home, from AP to Patek to Rolex even. So they want something fresh, unique, not traditional. RM fits in that category of sporty, casual yet exquisitely built for perfection type of watch. Please understand it’s not marketed for everyone but once you wear one you will be amazed how comfortable they are, go try one on if you haven’t

RM customers don’t just buy a watch... they also get the status symbol, exclusivity, and invitations to exclusive and prestigious networking events and luxury product events around the world. Arguably, for one who can afford these pieces, the fringe benefits may be more important than the watch itself.

I wouldn’t buy one of these if I had the money. However, I do find them fascinating. The fact that they exist, I believe, is a good thing for the watch industry And Horology in general. There innovations and forward thinking will no doubt pay dividends and filter down to watches , at a price point, that more people can afford. Cheers!

The Swiss are masters of marketing. Richard Mille is a prime example. Market timing was perhaps the key to Mille's success. Many of the wealthy today made their $$ fast rather than slow of previous generations.

I do definately understand everyone saying the watch looks like a toy, but you truly cannot deny how Richard Mille has shaken the industry. It's an enourmous diversion from the classic luxury watch, while still being an incredible, complicated piece. That alone could drive my love of RM.

I’ve seen his watches in Harrods and £100,000 is on the cheaper side one particular model in a glass display was £300,000 and I think it was on a rubber or silicone strap and while they are a pretty amazing after starring at it for 10 mins and listening to the salesman discussing its merits, lightness and functionality etc I was yearning for something that was less intimidating like a Lange & sohne in Platinum.

The custom parts aren't THAT expensive to make. Ask any high end medical or aerospace machine shop. They make small quantities of custom parts all the time, often with more difficult to cut materials and to even higher standards.
