Not a mechanic, so please correct me if I'm wrong, but if someone turned on the propeller why you were cleaning it there's an easy escape right? @melliethemortician

Fun Fact for the jet skier, bigger boats have alot of momentum in the water so anything near them tends to get sucked in/under due to how large the propellor blades are which is why when on smaller boats/jet skis youre told not to go far out enough or get close enough to a bigger boat unless you know 100% that its not moving/the fans arent going. Sadly there have been a few accidents that have happened due to that(one involved the Queen Mary) so yes if you are out on open water and see a large ship immediately start heading further away even if you think youre far enough away GO FURTHER.

My uncle used to take us water skiing and kneeboarding at a lake and any time I had to be in water I have to keep my knees bent and feet as high as possible. I was always afraid I'd end up kicking something like a piece of machinery that shouldn't be under a lake. It's only gotten worse the older I get know I just don't go in water. As for these pics some of them I wouldn't classify in the this phobia it has it be submerged already not a what if it was under water

Propellers are not death machines, they are not designed to kill you, you can get close to an active one and be fine, it pushes sucks in water from the front of the ship, and pushes it out the back to move the ship toward, your only in danger if your in front of the ship, but if your cleaning the propellor and it runs on, ya swim away from the boat in the direction behind it to ensure you have a good angle, and the propellor will just blast you out to sea, but I guess that’s still bad for several reasons.

I have some version of submechanophobia, but I'm not concerned with it "not supposed to be there". Like for those who think sunken planes are way creepier than sunken ships. I hate man-made things in there, period, especially if they're grimy and icky. And the underside of boats is by far the worst. Boats on the surface - but you're under the surface. That picture of the guy hanging onto a giant propeller is nightmare fuel to me, when most other things about thalassophobia don't get to me at all (anymore, I was way worse as a kid).
