NSU prinz 4! I have owned 2cv's since college, but they are just not that aero, quite high, impractical boot and bonnet space and the drivetrain configuration doesn't lend itself too much for ev conversions. I still wanted to convert my 2cv though, until I discovered the NSU: rear wheel drive with rear motor, boxy spaces in front and back, as narrow as the 2cv but lower and less draggy design choices. Still have to find the time and remaining funds though! But 100Wh/km seems achievable

I'm aware that low price usually comes with economies of scale, but you have to have a fair bit of cash to throw around for £40k to be "affordable", especially considering you only get 10kWh of battery. Why do you keep showing us the EV porn???? I mean does it get any better than this? LOVE IT! Would love to see this scaled for mass production and bring them to the US. Would be nice to have a little more range and slightly more speed so that it could run on the highways(back roads of course). Oh man is that nice! Not fair teasing us with such a lovely car. NOT FAIR! Beautiful simplicity.

I love the Citroën Deux Chevaux (2CV)! I used to drive my friends 2CV when I lived in Belgium from 1973 to 1975. It's the French version of the Model T Ford from the beginning of the advent of the Family Farmer Car. They are a death trap if you get in a bad accident, however. Just a thought. I'll wait for the price to drop from $50 Grand.
@Piner5074

See what you did there, left price to the end. Really needs to be sub £25k, but obviously it can’t because it’s now hand built and low volume, and that comes with a premium. Sadly really only a niche vehicle now.

Yep, fair. Old Darren is building these himself, to order, purely for the love of the game. He already gets more business than he can manage maintaining old ICE 2CVs, and will barely make a profit off these Evie's - this is the definition of a passion project

Well said Jack..far too much crap in modern cars. Apparently the kit to warm seats if your poor little tooshie is feeling a bit cold is pretty bloody heavy. Saving finite fuel and cutting air pollution less of a priority than getting a warm arse a tad quicker.

Heated seats I would defend - much less energy intensive than heating the cabin and therefore much less harmful to your electric range!
@pau1phi11ips

Yeah, and heated seats would add bugger all to the weight. Electric adjustable seats would be weighty but the heating element is nothing.
@banksarenotyourfriends
Жыл бұрын
@@JackScarlett1it would probably be even less energy intensive if they just insulated the seats. My sleeping bag keeps me warm all night in winter just off my body heat, there's no need to add all the extra weight of seat warmers when your body could do that job in 5 minutes! Lifting 10kg up a 100m hill uses the same energy as lifting 1000kg up a 1m hill - I'd rather just save the weight, and the energy used in the manufacturing side. Manufacturers should at least give us the *option*. When I was a kid, if you had seat warmers in your car it meant you were rich, but the rest of us Poors still coped without them ok! 😂

@@pau1phi11ips Some years ago on an episode of Top Gear they had to strip cars down to reduce their weight - I remember Richard Hammond saying how surprised he was in how heavy the seat heating element was. Yes having electric seat adjustment is just a bloody extravagance.

@@JackScarlett1 Every time I've been in a car where someone wanted to put on the seat warmers it was because their precious tooshie was just a tad on the cold side. They seemed to get a special thrill from having their seat become warm, bit like having a foot spa I suspect, nothing to do with preventing frost bite to rear end. People will light up a patio heater rather than stick a sweater on - think that's the issue generally.

I think this guy is looking at this car with very rose tainted glasses. 39k for a new one sod that, go and get a brand new car as that will have better specs and safety and can load way more than that car. Safety is questionable at best on that 2cv,power is useless and generally should be left in the past. Asking 39k for that is absolutely shocking and a joke. It should be 10k at best. Only buy one to put it on display but even that will be a waste of 39k. What a pathetic joke and a complete waste of time money and resources.

I agree on most of your points, but there is one very important issue. If someone else's car hits you, even if not very fast - you're gone forever, there's absolutely no safety in this car to protect you from the mistakes of other drivers whose cars remain big and heavy. And that's a big issue.

Cute - and I get it, having had a Dyane and two 2CVs in the 80s, taking one of them over the alps and the other repeatedly from Glasgow down the M75/M6/M5 to Bristol. But seriously - forty grand + vat (which is actually fifty grand) is nothing short of a piss-take, or a toy for the very rich. Also reminds me why I gave up my 2CV and bought a Saab (which brand I then drove until the early 2010s): I was working as a journalist and saw an unpublishable picture taken by one of the staff snappers after one had been in an accident. Basically, everything above the platform - from bodywork to people - was scraped off and mashed to a pulp. Safety is not really an optional extra in cars. These had their day. Leave them in the past.

I love this, though I have to ask about safety. A lot of R&D has gone into keeping passengers safe in an accident over the decades, and while keeping these iconic cars out of the scrapyard and on the street is great, how will it cope in a collision?
@ukslim

It's certainly a concern, but it's a factor classic car drivers face every day already. Also consider the scenarios in which this is likely to be used. If it struggles to reach 45mph, you're going to avoid taking it on the open road. If you bought it for deliveries and light cargo within cities, you'd seldom be going anywhere with traffic >30mph. Yes, I appreciate a 30mph accident can still be very serious, and that you get idiots speeding. But the risk is very much reduced compared to driving on 60mph roads.
