Huge props to the German guy for making maintenance less annoying

Some notes I'd like to add: 1. In general, Iron/Steel will form significantly more rust above around 60% humidity I believe regardless of temperature. 2. The test I conducted with Gold Guard, CLP, and Eezox was on a carbon steel plate outdoors for several months with direct exposure to rain, hail, snow, wind, dust, insects, sunlight etc. Also would like to thank our first channel member, Mad Scientist. From now on I will be featuring members in the credits. Thanks guys

Along with Swedish Mausers i have not personally seen a lot of rusty Type 38 or 99s. My Type 38 was rescued from a damp garage. Stock was moldy and dry rotted but the metal was in good condition!

You mentioned how leather holsters can damage your firearms I have been using Obenauf's Leather Conditioner - Leather Oil for the past 30 years on all of my holsters it is a oil and beeswax infused leather conditioner. I will typically put about six sloppy wet coats inside and out of every new holster. This will stop any holster wear and rubbing issues as well as it also continuously re-introduces oil back to the surface of your revolver when in use I reapply a light coat inside and out for everyone of my leather revolver holsters at least once per year it keeps the leather supple waterproof and oiled

I agree and I pretty much exclusively use leather as well and oil/wax the inside, but I know most people don't.

Fine video Jared. Very comprehensive. You are right about the blood on the metal thing. I find if I don't wipe the blood off right away after bludgeoning someone, it tends to rust...

Great information here! For long term storage (and cheap metals) I like to use synthetic motor oil. I guess the important thing is to use some type of thick oil or grease that won't evaporate over time.

A big issue in colder climates are the inside/outside differences. We have -20 to -40 minus (cels) and then you go inside with +22, the rifle is cold and will start to condense. So its not wise to store the rifle right away, better to let it aclimate then run a patch and whipe the outside.

Good point. Cold to warm will create condensation. Bad news if it's in a case for example

I live in Indiana where the humidity on average throughout the summer is 80% or above I keep a ball Mason jar wide mouth with a 14 by 14 lint free cleaning cloth that has been saturated with hops number 9 gun oil and every 3 or 4 months I wipe down all my blue guns I also have in the same jar a 8" Cleaning rod with patch adapter and I run a oil patch through the boar as well as the cylinders. The patch that I run through my revolvers I don't change because they're already cleaned it's just for roiling, so you can use the same patch repeatedly. All of my guns are blued I have never had rust Issues. The majority of my guns quite honestly are just sprinkled around my house they are not particularly stored in a manner that would inhibit rust. On good oil maintenance.

Gold Guard sounds like the old Sheath. I use Lubriplate’s FMO-AW oil mainly now if I don't use the oil I make or Renaissance Wax.

On my rifles I use grease (Super Tech multi-duty complex, from Walmart). I take a small brush and just paint it on them and when time to use a whip the grease off. I also have a bucket of DampRid in my safe which does soke up moisture in the area (all you have to do is remove the lid and silver film but not the white paper).

Looks like there is one source in the USA. Small bottle and flat rate shipping. Shipping runs more than the oil =(
