There's a significant amount of research showing that if enough protein (as low as 0.6g-1g per lb of bodyweight - some studies even go off of lean mass and not total mass) is being obtained and it is being ingested from a variety of consistent protein sources, then BCAAs are not necessary. Furthermore, in most cases, BCAAs are typically only containing a few of the multiple amino acids required for optimal muscle growth. If you're really wanting to go the AA route, EAAs are okay, at best. However, in most cases, they're a waste of money that could be spent on complete protein sources. I love both the editing style on this video and the contributions you've offered on videos related to calisthenics skills. In fact, I use a good portion of the planche and front lever advice you've given out in some of my own training and client's training. However, I'm concerned that this video may be misinforming people on proper supplementation for training.

All this video is meant to provide is insight into what gymnasts like Brandon Wynn take and what they suggest bodyweight athletes takes as supplements. By definition supplements are meant to fill in the gaps or to use in specific situations (as mentioned in the video, long sessions while in as deficit for example). This is not advocating that everyone needs BCAAs or EAAs but that these can help in specific situation that bodyweight athletes find themselves in as they hope to lose weight while retaining muscle or recover from session that cause a lot of stress of the joints. Also the points about complete protein and taking whey or plant based protein have been mentioned in this video so it’s up to the individual to decide if they fit the context where these supplements could help! Thank you for your input though!

@The Jacked Vegan While it does offer specific amino acids, in most cases complete sources are simply better options. The majority of BCAAs and EAAs don't offer enough of a complete source of protein or even enough grams of protein to ensure you're meeting macro or calorie intake needs. If you're on a time crunch, they can be not the worst thing in the world. But in that case, just having even a whey complex with fruit can fill that role more often than not. Creatine and collagen I can definitely get behind, as people can't feasibly get enough of this from whole food products. I forget the exact number, but you'd have to eat a stupid amount of meat (possibly more than 10 steaks?) just to get the sufficient amount of creatine monohydrate the body would require to have creatine stores filled up optimally. Collagen is also not usually picked up in whole foods and is honestly my #1 for any athlete doing straight arm work to pick up. Also, the studies you briefly showed in the video, do you have links for those? I don't see any of them in the description. Thanks for the reply!

Hey Jake do you think there’s any chance for a video diving into the details in sets and reps for different types of mesocycles? I love the idea of running a hypertrophy phase followed by strength and peaking (tryna learn straddle planche atm) but just not 100% how to structure it. Love all the content man! 🔥

I took BCAAs for years and years despite the cost because I believed the hype. When I stopped, there was zero change in my performance or body composition. There are pretty much no studies out there that back the claims people make about BCAAs, and where there are benefits they pale in comparison to simply drinking whey. Seriously, take a cruise around pubmed or simply google the studies that back the idea that BCAAs are valuable. You'll be hard pressed to find anything more than a smattering of a couple studies that suggest modest benefits, but most say otherwise. Good science is about having a large wealth of numerous diverse studies and methodologies that all suggest something similar, and there simply isn't that for BCAAs--- not even close. What bro science has done with BCAAs is cherrypick the couple of studies that suggest modest benefits and trumpet it loudly while ignoring the massive majority of studies that contradict them. Honestly the only situation in which supplementing BCAAs is valuable is if you're vegetarian or vegan and struggle to get them from incomplete protein sources.

Spot on - and what they fail to tell people is without the EAAS, BCAAS are pretty much useless - eat red meat or if you don’t, make sure you get the essentials or you’ll just be wasting money

Is it ok to take collagen as a teen, or can it stop natural collagen production in the body, kinda like what steroids do to your testosterone? I wanna start taking it to complement statics training but i need to know about risks of supplements before i buy them so yea...

I don't know why but i will feel guilty if i will take supplements cause it is sort of cheating or something like that cause my performance will partially thank the supplements. So i want to do the job by meals only. Please let me know your thoughts.

I think taking supplements isn’t gonna take away from your achievements, cuz it’s defo not cheating it’s just a way to maximise the gains you can make. It’s like a runner wearing the best running shoes possible or a swimmer using the most streamline cap possible or smth.

BCAA's are completely redundant, although studies show that the increase protein synthesis etc they lack context. They do not do this any more than eating normal protein sources( vegan or otherwise), Which also contain protein in abundance, although they sound cool they are just a far more expensive way of getting protein, well done marketing by supplement companies has convinced people they are necessary/optimal, but in the context of someone with sufficient protein in their diet all they do is burn a whole in your bank account, they may absorb more quickly but this hasn't got any bearing on their effectiveness, similar to how companies have marketed creatine HCL as more effective as it is absorbed more efficiently, but actually offers no increased performance benefit over creatine monohydrate. Great content though !

@@Unique_Monk Not if he eats enough protein, which he probably is, plenty of natural vegan sources of BCAA, not to mention pretty much all vegan protein powders are enriched with BCAA.
