Great video. I’ve had the black dial for over a year and absolutely adore it. For an every day watch that often goes unnoticed on the wrist due to that slim and lightweight design, I don’t think anything beats it. I’m still actively searching for videos and reviews a year down the road, that should say it all. This was one of the best and most comprehensive reviews I’ve seen!

I have a Seiko Alpinist and I love the watch but it doesn't keep as accurate of time.....I myself would definitely recommend the Khaki Field as the best field watch all things considered, including price... For $400 or a little more it is top notch, keeps great time and easy to read.... Another great video Nick, you are SPOT ON!.... GG...Indiana

Unless you want to go East & get a Vostok: fun, funky & functional for under $100. Of course the Amfibia is more famous than their field & aviator watches, but they've got unique movements, lots of character and history, and are easily customized. I work in the trades, and before i found a G Shock i liked i wore a Hamilton or Vostok most days. Both are really tough with the edge going to Vostok. Hamilton is a bit slimmer and more accurate, but isnt a match for a quartz. I also have Seiko Five Sport, which is great, except i find the dial a bit too busy. Unfortunately, work is so rough that my mechanical watches dont see much use these days, the G Shock isnt pretty but its a great tool.

A bit larger than the Hamilton both in diameter and thickness. It does have a date window, but no hack feature. And, the movement is Japanese (Miyota), so not the cache of a Swiss movement. Hey Nick. Well you’ve done it again. You’ve produced a video which I cannot find anything at all to disagree about with you:)...Seriously,...I purchased a Hamilton Field watch a couple of months ago. In many ways it’s very similar to yours with 80 hour Power Reserve, 50 M Water Resistance, push, pull crown, mechanical movement, hacking, etc. The dial on my Hamilton Khaki King does have both Day and Date Complications. Other than that, the only other difference in the watch is the color way of the Dial. My Khaki King has a Champagne color dial. Other than these differences, I believe they are quite similar watches. I can’t agree with you more as to the build quality and overall value of these Hamilton watches. The pricing of my watch is similar to yours, and in my opinion is quite the value! Thanks Nick for sharing your observations on your Field watch. I hope that the watch brings you much enjoyment for many years to come....Ed

I love classic Hamilton, but I have to agree with you. I prefer the black face SBDC087 or SPB117 Seiko Alpinist though for true functionality and ruggedness over Hamilton. Another very thorough review! Coincidentally, I've watched Hamilton reviews ad nauseum the past weeks. I love the functionality and the all business look. The talk about "heritage" frankly baffles me. Ok, great to know the military used something. Thus the expression, built like a tank. (Though actual Tank watches like Cartier, seem classic but fragile to my eye.) I just want a sturdy, wear anywhere beater that also looks simple but great and evidences quality. Therein lies the rub with Hamilton. First the water resistance. I sleep and shower with my Rolex Explorer II. For 24 years straight. Ok, incomparable duo. But I would hesitate to shower even by mistake with this watch. Even some of their 100 meter watches report seepage problems with a few. No screw down crowns. Ok, that's associated largely with dive watches. But if the crown, the winder stem part, becomes bumped out a notch, water now has a welcome, we're open sign flashing. Next, it's a winder. Some people love that. For me, I don't get it. This isn't 1920. I like indoor plumbing and hot water. Heating buckets over burning logs and filling up a detached tub might seem nostalgic. I want to turn a knob. I want a watch to just go. If you venture out in the dark or need super clear, night lume, make sure to watch other reviews that show the lume in low light. Functional but not punchy, if that meets your needs. That H10 movement comes in Khaki automatic as well, aka H70455133 with 100 meter water resistance and date at 38mm. It is black face, and everyone knows black face is verboten, even in a pun, so sorry. So yes, total classic, looks terrific and no batteries to replace. Also many Hamilton fields have a polished bezel. Looks shiny and extends the look to dress-up casual or even business. But shows scratches enthusiastically. This model is matte finish so less dressy but practical for a real field watch. Since it's a strap monster, aka you can swap straps and get a whole new look at will, this has drilled lugs; tiny holes on the sides of the watch case. Press a special tool in there to easily swap out straps in seconds. Don't poopoo quartz while you shop. Even more accurate far less fragile internal parts to break, less or no maintenance and battery convenience. Though anathema to watch purists. See Hamilton H68551733. If you love the winding ritual and don't shower regularly or absentmindedly, Nick's pick is a classic looker with a lot to like!

hahah that black face note. I would have gotten a watch like the H70455133 if it were white and with a leather strap, both very inconsequential desires I'm sure you'll feel, but I want what I want :) I shower and swim in my watch no worries, and I'm a bit fidgety so I quite like the daily wind, but that's just me! @@Stridewise Hamilton khaki comes with 20mm lugs, while the issued Benrus DTU 2A/P and Hamilton H3 have 18mm lugs. I think 20mm lugs are too big for vintags field watches, during NAM war era most of the field watches at that time had 18mm lugs, diver had 19mm or 20mm lugs. I think if Hamilton wants to make re-issue of them, it would be better to keep the size of the case and lugs as same as the vintags one. While they can make improvements on the movements, glass, and WR 😁. Just my opinion.

Field watches don't have date complications. If you need a date complication, then you don't need a field watch. What day is it? It is go time. Get er done. Don't worry about tomorrow. Yesterday is over and done with. Dates are irrelevant. Be here now. That is what a field watch is all about.

Over $500 and it doesn't even have a chronograph, tachymeter/telemeter, date/month window, slide rule, moon phases, gmt functionality, Indiglo... it only tells the time. And being automatic means it's less accurate, more sensitive to the environment, requires regular winding/wear, and costly maintenance. I completely understand the fascination with the beautiful mechanisms, fine craftsmanship and rich history behind the internal workings of mechanical movements, but they are so grossly impractical and costly I have difficulty justifying it. You can buy quartz movements at half the price that last longer, are more accurate and feature far more functionality with no difference aesthetically speaking, really unless you meet a horophile the average person won't be able to tell the difference.

I feel you on the struggle finding a WHITE field watch with a DATE. It seems every one is either ugly or doesn't have the 24hr time indicators or some other issue.

YES Michael. Right? Thank you. Half the reason I have a watch is for the date!

Timex makes inexpensive, legible watches with date or day/date that light up, the “easy reader” ones. They are quartz, of course.

@@oklahomahank2378 The problem with the cheap Timex ones (Weekender, Easy Reader, etc.) is that the ticking is so loud it will drive you insane. I'm currently rocking a 38mm L.L.Bean "Vintage Field Watch" with a cheap leather NATO strap. They unfortunately don't sell the 38mm model in white anymore, but I found one on eBay. It works well enough for now but I'm always keeping my eyes out for something better.

Also the ugliest! Ridiculously long lugs, with crappy AR coating and horrible lume. Not to mention the most boring dial and an ugly dull finishing on the case. 🤢🤮

is it true the Hamilton Khaki watches have fogging/condensation issues?
