I think prior to Witness Katy had unhealthily relied on the general public to give her self worth. During an interview in 2018, Katy said she had situational depression after the failures of Witness because she had never seen her audience react so negatively to a record she put out. Many people on the internet began bashing her and it took a toll on her mental health. She spoke about this in a live therapy session where she "just wanted to be her authentic self" and admitted that she cut her hair so short because she wanted to go back to her roots. Katy Perry was always just a character, and she thought the public would be there for her and support her through her journey of authenticity like they had in the past. However, as soon as Katy did this, everyone began to think she was crazy and stopped listening to her music. They wanted Katy Perry not Katy Hudson, even if it wasn't her true self. It was a sad time; I remember Katy held a large concert back in 2017 at the height of when she was being attacked. She said "There are so many people here. I wasn't sure if you still liked me." Eventually Katy began to realize that her peak years of stardom were over and now she just does what she loves. She's already rich and famous and has all the recognition she needs. There is no reason for her to continue to try and chase the spotlight, she has nothing left to prove. I believe the KZitemr Pewdiepie has also gone down a similar route now.

The reason she never won a Grammy Is simple : The grammys hate Katy perry We all know she had hits after hits and she was the main pop star and the biggest from 2008-2016 And this show is all about streams and albums sold worldwide and in the us And she had it all She broke records And redefined pop music So I think it's pretty obvious Like I said they hate her And I don't think she'll ever win one tbh But honestly who cares The world doesn't care if she won or not a Grammy Only in the US grammys are such a thing but outside of it It's not that thing!! I always felt Katy’s downfall have had to do with her lack of music identity and refusal to evolve outside of making commercially oriented music. That opposite reason is why her peers Beyoncé, lady Gaga, Taylor swift and Rihanna have continued to achieve massive success well after the years you would think they would start decline. They did hit road blocks (for Beyoncé with 4, Gaga with artpop and Rihanna with rated r) but what made them continue was dumbing down and become more progressive and experimental with their music and start setting trends instead of following them. Katy never had that career transition the way Gaga did with Joanne, Beyoncé did with self titled, Rihanna did with anti and Taylor did with both reputation and folklore,

Just letting you know, the Grammy voters do NOT go by what critics say about a song/album. Some albums that have won album of the year had very low critic scores. In addition, if it was about critics, then every year the album of the year would be albums we haven’t heard of. The Grammys don’t have a set reasons of deciding who wins. It’s all about political, social, and a monetary agenda.
@jonnyharvey
Жыл бұрын
thanks for this - 'some albums that have won album of the year had very low critic scores?' Can you give examples? What are you thinking of Céline Dion 'Falling into you?" For the most part the big winners on the Grammys are critically acclaimed artists with some commercial viability. I think credibility does play a part in who wins; it's not the sole reason but it does play a large part. And just the other point - the Grammys tend to only recognise artists who are having some sort of commercial impact in the industry. They don't give awards to albums people have never heard of

Witness was the equivalent of Gaga's 'ArtPop'. It was a relative flop. But Gaga came back from that. I felt that Katy never came back from that. She released lots of singles without there being an album. Then she later on released 'Smile'. When I heard about this I thought it would all be new material but instead it contained all of the unconnected singles and in my opinion a lot of the rest felt like filler. It definitely was not up to the standard of her two stellar albums. Her career and life are ever changing. She did all that time as the talent judge, then got married and had a child and is now working Vegas. There could be more substance to come from her but she needs to put in the work and find good producers and collaborators and make a cohesive album that can compete with other acts. Although she is older now I think she should stick to the cartooney persona that works for her with lots of wigs and colour. It was a mistake to try to lose that and become serious as she did for Witness. I believe she can make another stellar album if she puts the work in.

Can you please do a video on Katy’s commercial decline? It’s crazy how she went from consecutive number ones to music irrelevancy when her peers have sustained music success. What does that say about how the music industry has changed and why have Taylor, Gaga, Beyoncé and Miley remained musically relevant and not Katy?

But Grammys are awarding the artists based off their body of work, not their side business for cash. Unless you’re admitting big corporations indeed play big role in these organizations (Grammys, Emmys, etc.).

There's not a single category at the Grammy's that awards people on their vocal abilities. Any category that has "vocal" in it simply means that the song/album has above 50% vocals as opposed to 50%+ instrumental parts, which would qualify the song/album for Best Instrumental categories. Great job making an explainer video while not understanding the basics 👏

It's pretty simple, it's all the timing and who were she up against on that time. I'm not necessary think that the Grammys hating her, it is just her competition at that time is too strong tbh. Gaga, Adele, Beyonce, Sam Smith which are grammy-darlings is some of the artist that she lost to for her nominations. It just luck is not on her side.

i think that lots of criticism that Grammy's has received over the years are for a good & very solid reason & this is one of the best example.. As for my opinion..Katy is MORE than deserving not just a grammy, but several grammys at the very least. She set a CULTURE TREND, not just in the US, but ALL OVER THE WORLD through HER music & she also has top the charts on many occasions in a period when so MANY very talented female artist like Adele, Taylor, Christina, Beyonce, Rihanna, JLo & many others were at their peak..(of course Taylor & Beyonce ARE still at their peak even now..). AND the sad thing is, eventhough the Grammy's academy has been trying to revamp itself in these last few years, i just DON'T think it will ever change 😶😶😶

Years ago, didn’t we already establish that Katy was pop royalty? She already accomplished that with, one of the boys, teenage dream, and even prism. This was early on in her career, then she experimented with witness and smile. There’s no need for her to be “taken seriously within the industry” whatever that means nowadays anyways 🤷🏻♀️
