A few things: 1. If you ride up to cyclists and want to join them, don't just assume that they're ok with it. It's good manners to ask the rider ahead of you if it's ok if you join them. Also, much safer if they know you're on their wheel. 2. Your cadence is dependent on a few factors, such as your fitness and your particular muscles. Spinning faster takes less muscles but more fitness. You'll notice as you spin faster that your legs take less strain, but your heart rate goes up. Conversely, if you spin slower, your legs take more strain but your heart rate goes down. No one cadence works for everyone. My ideal cadence is around 80-85 while riding at a tempo pace. Then again, I'm a bigger rider with huge legs, more of a sprinter. Just do what works for you at the given time.

Nice analysis. I ride a recumbent trike that weighs around 60 lbs with gear (320 with me in it). The high cadence that you describe is right on. Unfortunately, roadies vs. low riders are like the difference in High Horse Power vs High Torque. In the flats, it's pretty rare that roadies will pass me as I spin around 80-90 rpms pushing around 225-330 watts @ 22-27 mph. It's always fun though seeing how the trained/experienced riders will gauge my pace for a little while before "attacking" like the guys did in your video. When they attack though, it's clear just how fit these people are. I've been passed going 25-27 like I'm standing still. I just need to get my power to weight ratio > 1. When that happens, maybe I'll be able to hang with those folks.

hi! Appreciate your videos alot!!! I would like to know what’s your gears in front and back? Are you in a small ring in front? What about your gear at the back? What is the best gears to have that kind of cadence?

Appreciate the support! In this video I'm running a SRAM 1x 46T single chainring on the front, 10-36T cassette on the back. For my type of riding, I found it is plenty good enough for most terrain. Generally I would say most road bike gears are plenty sufficient for you to maintain a cadence anywhere from 80-100rpm. Remember that the objective of a gearset is to allows us to change gears so that we can find our optimum cadence (rpm), so always remember to change gears to find your optimum cadence!

@@eugenecycles that 46 is easier to spin than most 2X with a 50 or 52. Seems like a sweet spot.
