But if your opponent is "dialed honest", it makes no sense to say you're going to "induce a mistake". Do whatever you want, he's just running it out. There's no mistake to induce.

Correct as if I did my job right at the tree, I pay attention only 2 things...I see you are green or red (maybe even lit up the tires leaving the line), and the closing rate...Rear view, to side mirror, over the shoulder, 90 degree, and the little last foot to the stripe. I want to be dead on something. And leading or following by an inch or more if you misjudge the stripe w/ all that closing speed. I prefer to personally slow dance to a faster dancer bulleting by like a rocket as life slows to a crawl.

If you can hit the tree better than the opponent and go mid-low dead on......then this makes no sense at all.

I'm used to bottom bulb racing, which is considerably slower in my case but, I always dialed honest. I might adjust a little when staging or stall speed but always did pretty well. I may have to try this strategy next time just to see.

I see both sides, and do both. When the car is running low dead on and I'm 00s I dial honest. Won alot of races like that. Always sends opponents under

Used too dial honest… got me by usually because in footbrake when I dial honest and don’t turn the red light on, I’ve won a bit this way. Joined tibr elite and while I still don’t fully understand a lot of things, I’ve started holding numbers or spot dropping. Out of 5 races so far this year, 2 wins, a runner up, a semi final in 7.0 and went out in 3rd round footbraking. Car was inconsistent that night, so I dialed a number I knew it could run. Wasn’t sure if I was dialing honest or how much I would be holding. I was two hundredths better on tree than opponent, and basically I waited too late to get on brakes. He saw he wasn’t getting there and let me have the stripe. I had plenty of room too. I broke out by a hundredth. Car picked up 2 hundredths from previous pass and it looked like I was holding 4 numbers and killed 3. High speed chess game we play

If on average you can hit the tree better than your opponent and go low dead on, you will always have an advantage. By dialing honest you get rid of a variable, which is having to make a decision. By dialing honest, you have forced the decision making process 100% on your opponent, and you don't have to race someone as savvy as Jeff Serra, Scotty Richardson, or Nick Hastings 90% of the time.

I agree. Hitting the tree better than your opponent and running dead on will win way more than holding. Take it from an old man

Yep. No point in holding unless you're trying to cover up a bad light or a bad car. If you're good on the tree, holding #'s is only hurting you.

Dead on, you gotta put yourself in the position where you can take the stripe if you want to... just gotta know if your late or not... no better feeling than knowing you flat out miss the tree and your winlight comes on

Always dial honest. Because I can go a whole weekend .002-.004 on the tree. One Saturday late last year I had 6 .000 in a row and last lap .009 but won due to a push. My trick is always getting up there first and turn that top bulb on then opponent will have both bulbs on before I get my bottom bulb on because I creep so slow into that last bulb I can trickle the bulb every time. That puts me on the track in the same position every time. Lots of guys get in a hurry and roll in 1”-2” heck 5” deep. You can’t have consistent reaction times stopping in a different spot every time.

When you recommend holding .02-.03. Is that in the 1/8th mile? If so, how much in the 1/4. Thanks.

I can see doin it if your running a class like top dragster where everyone is fast, but if im dialed 8.19 and my super pro opponet is like 11.20 seems like your asking to break out. In those secenarios i accutually like to dial .01 fast and run it out the back door if i have too, i feel you force them under ALOT, but i also have been told that its alot harder to judge a slingshot on the big end than a rear motor car because as oppose to a body its a pipe rack with wheels & its just harder for a door car to judge.. idk if others have had that exp but ive been told that by several other racers.

If I'm racing someone pretty close to my dial I usually hold 2. If I'm chasing a much slower car I will dial honest or maybe 1 or 2 faster than what I'm running. Holding 2 is easy, just plan on 2 whomps 80 feet or so from the stripe.
