I love the concept you shared about curly hair-- that "ends need friends", and that the weight is necesssary at the ends to form a curl...but what about a blending shear on curly hair that is relaxed or otherwise chemical straightened?
@meomiragrace4450
8 жыл бұрын
I think if you cut it while relaxed it would look weird when it isn't relaxed anymore. It would mess with the natural flows in the hair that you wouldn't be able to tell since it would be relaxed. Sorry if I made this sound confusing.

I think it would depend on your wave pattern after it was chemically altered, and how you wear your hair.

Man you guys are awesome. So much info on so much technique. I’m not a stylist, I just wondered if the shears used for blending are the same as the shears for removing bulk. Now I see they are. As I person with thin, fine hair, I should probably stop asking them to blend. 😅

This is the best video I have seen regarding WHAT these scissors do AND why NOT to cut curly long hair with these. SO, what do you suggest I tell the hairdresser regarding my daughters long FULL curly hair? She has a lot of hair and she has a hard time doing her hair. I think maybe a lot of layers all around? Or are long layers better all around?? What would be easier do you think?? THX! :)

Hey Sam.. I want to change my career and I've always wanted to become a barber. I have been cutting my own hair for years and I know. That makes me sound like a. Cheapskate but I'm not. I have Control issues when it comes to my hair. I would love to become a barber for real and was thinking of applying to the Irish school of barbering for a beginners course. I have bought some of the tools I need but some advice would be gratefully received mate
@samvillahair
5 жыл бұрын
Hey there! It sounds like you found a new calling. As far as advice on tools, there are a few things we feel are really important for barbers. 1. A good heavy shear with a longer blade... this is great for shear over comb and dealing with large sections of heavy hair. Something like this... www.samvilla.com/pro/products/shears/signature-series-shears/7-dry-cutting-shear 2. A great blending shear... we usually recommend the Signature Series Reversible Blender for barbers. It takes a little more hair out with each cut (enough that you can do shear over comb with it). www.samvilla.com/pro/products/shears/blending-thinning-shears/reversible-blending-shear You can see this being done in this video... kzitem.info/news/bejne/jpCCvamFaYqpdHo 3. A great adjustable clipper and trimmer (of course) 4. Handle and detailing combs... www.samvilla.com/pro/products/combs/artist-series-combs/sam-villa-artist-series-comb-set Going through school can be a trial but be patient and have fun... school is whatever you make of it. If you go there expecting to be board everyday, that's exactly what you will get. But if you go in ready to learn and make the most of our time there, you will have a great time and walk away a much stronger barber. Good luck and keep us posted!

@samvillahair
5 жыл бұрын
myhusbandsrib Hi there! We get this type of question quite often. Even “just trimming the ends” is a technical process if you want it to go well! As a professional hairdresser, we have repaired the damage done by our salon guests trying to do home maintenance very often and it usually means removing more hair to regain balance in the haircut. Our best recommendation is to trust a pro :-) The same money you will spend on professional shears (starting at about $250 for the very basic level) is better spent treating yourself to an hours of pampering at your local salon.

So of your hairs up in a ponytail wont those short hairs at the top stick out/ fall everywhere?
@samvillahair
6 жыл бұрын
You already have thousands of shorter hairs in between the longer ones because of the natural shedding and regrowing process... the trick is not to get a concentration of short hairs in clumps so that they show up in chunks. Hope that makes sense :-)

The reason it gets bushy and poofy is because of the thinning once the hair grows out the short hairs for the thinning shears push the longer pieces of hair thus causing it to stick out more..

What type of shears for military or faded type of haircuts? I've noticed some stylists use what I would guess is blend shears to blend in the longer top to the fade after buzzing to the skin on the sides and around 3/4" on the top. I've been buzzing my hair to 3/4" and then using a mirror to shave the sides and fade it in myself. Double mirrors to get the back or ask the wife cuz I struggle with the back. Anyways the fade tends to have some longer hairs (3/4") that can fall over the fade afterwards. Need a proper solution and thought maybe this blend shear is it??? Thanks

Wait, don't you have to wet the hair first? I want to make sure because I'm attempting to fix my daughter's hair since my husband just put in a ponytail and cut it straight across shoulder length (her hair was waist long), so now it looks uneven from the back and just unmanageable, she initially wanted her hair short and decided that letting him cut her hair off like that was a great idea for some reason. Her hair is some where in between wavy and straight (Hispanic hair, you can see it alittle on my profile pic where shes hugging her baby bro), I've never cut hair in my life and the other day when I tried practicing on myself I cut my finger pretty bad, so yeah.... WHERE do I start?

Ends need friends. Now I understand why my wavy/curly hair has no shape in the ends since my last cut. The hairdresser cut my layers way too short for my fine hair. I am left with too little hairs at the bottom and it does not curl anymore! The only thing I do now is cut off as little as possible at the bottom every 6 weeks without touching the layers, just to have it grow together without having too much difference in the lengths (but it will take a long time...) I refuse to have it cut by a hairdresser ever again. There was only one that created perfect layers, but he moved to another country 😞 I am suprised by how few know how to cut layers.

HELP! how do I find a knowledgeable hairdresser in my small town or nearby? I feel like all everybody knows how to do around here is a straight blunt cut. ugh
@Jane_Louise_b72
5 жыл бұрын
I know same here, but I've realised if you go places like Tony & guy hairdressers they offer different levels of hairdressing. starting from a stylist, to style directer and even more advanced they call the directors cut. Never opt for the standard stylist hairdresser. You would assume any hairdresser would be able to give you what you want but they don't. It will cost more but go for directors cut. These hairdressers have had more advanced training, they really know how to put the wow factor into your haircut. You don't even have to ask them to use any texturing, they just do it if it needs it. Most hairdressers offer different levels of hairdressing these days . Look at what different salons have to offer in terms of different levels of expertise before you book a haircut.

@samvillahair

You can definitely remove weight, it just has to be done in a different way. The texture shears cut very small pieces into the hair which can cause frizz on curl. With curly hair, the pieces being removed need to be more deliberate and larger.

HOW DO THESE STYLIST EVEN GET THEIR LICENSES?!?!?! He absolutely should not be working on women’s hair! What can I do to help fix the mess out??? Please please reply to me??? I’m very very upset. But, I didn’t know what u just unveiled? But, I knew in my gut IT WAS WRONG! ALL WRONG! Like a reverse layer! N U NEVER LAYER MY NATURAL CURLY HAIR UNLESS IT’s just a few long layers around the face!! Please tell me is my curly hair going to be like a “bush now” like a “mushroom head” like the old fashion “bob cut” CAUSE I JUST CANNOT DO THAT!! It’s a mess! Have a friend with naturally wavy hair( very thick). She rocks the asymmetrical bob, & she only wears it sleek & smooth. She likes how the texture shears take out the bulk, but she feels the shears is what causes her hair to almost look like she has "fly aways"/"split ends". What can she tell her hairdresser to do to create the style & take out the bulk without creating a problem?

It is possible that her hair is being over-texturized. It's also possible that her hair lacks moisture. You could use a gloss product to smooth it down.
