The black frame/dk charcoal frame/swingarm was for ease of production and also lets the customer customize the bike much easier. Yea the blue is sharp but you sure gave up a lot of improvements for the love of it IMO and I also love that blue color. as for under seat storage, just get a t rex rack, very sturdy and comes with a small lock box under the platform. You can put a milk crate or true motorcycle luggage on top to carry whatever. The 2022's have so much more improved then just a "5th gear and oil filter" like everyone mentions. slightly shorter wheelbase for improved ground clearance, revised f/r suspension spring rates for improved ground clearance and ability to carry larger riders, smaller hi-flo catalytic converter for improved ground clearance/more power, single chamber muffler vs the old 3 chamber for better flow/more power/more mpg, revamped engine with more stroke and higher compression for more power/better mpg/better responsiveness especially in the lower revs, lower 1st gear and new 5th gear thats higher then the old 4th gear, 37t rear sprocket vs 34t on older model to keep engine in its powerband between all the gears for better acceleration and mpg, all led lights for longer life/brighter lights, redesigned air intake for better flow/more power/better mpg, redesigned timing chain tensioner to replace problematic one on older models, new tank paint scheme to replace the older version, black frame/dk charcoal swingarm for easier customization by the end user, a real oil filter, new tire compound for improved performance and few other things that escape me at the moment. These aren't huge changes for the most part but overall it makes for a better all around bike then the older models. I have rode both and the new ones have a definite edge IMO, its why I waited so long to get a 2022 model. I heard they discontinued them for the rest of the year though due to parys and logistics problems, but thats still rumor as of right now. Some guys were given deposits back on their 2022's by dealers. Either way you are gonna have a blast of course and good luck with it.

I mainly just want to carry the spare fuel under the seat but I hear you. I have been bit hard by the style/looks bug and maybe to my own detriment. Going to try to get my hands on a 22 to give a proper update on my feelings. Either way this bike is an absolute blast and the sprocket change has me happy with the performance. Just may need to throw on different rear shocks eventually.

Shorter wheelbase doesn’t mean nothing to me as I’m a taller rider. The suspension is easily rectified on the pre-22 model and to be honest it’s the first thing that most people change anyway, all the lights on my 2020 are led. The exhaust system and catalyst are replaced by a decat by most owners to save weight and get better sound. So really, an extra gear and oil filter are all that is different. Most people who buy Monkeys modify them so why pay over a grand more for a crappy 5th gear which really does nothing anyway and an oil filter? And the paint? Seriously? 😂

@@billwilliamson9842 my 2020 Monkey cost me £2800 with just over 1000 miles on it, yes it’s used but mint. If I wanted the Euro5 strangled 2022 model, I could have bought one. The 2022 is just under £4000, that equates to around £1200 difference. With the aforementioned £1200 I will modify my 4 speed with an aftermarket exhaust system (to stop the euro strangulation) a proper air intake kit, new rear shocks, new fork springs, 14 tooth front sprocket and an ECU flash and still have change left to buy myself a nice cup of coffee next time I’m out. New model envy? Haha it’s a Honda Monkey, not a Ducati Panigale! 😂

I've been watching Monkey video's for as long as I knew they started making modern ones, the new one sounds very exciting, but as you say, I'd also noticed the frame colour being the same on the variations and quite frankly I don't like it either, it's like they've cheaped out to make it easier for them to mass produce different colour monkeys with minimal extra painting processes, such a shame, Honda have taken a step back... how do find non ABS, does it still feel safe in emergency braking?
@motohound90

Yes, I think they are trying to increase profits with the color decisions but atleast they made improvements elsewhere. Havent had an issue with braking or been scared of it not having front ABS personally but I havent really pulled a full emergency stop really.

I too am obsessed with the older model blue and paint scheme and frame paint as it makes me giggle like a little kid when I see it(I am 50). The 2022 is cool but not the same emotional response and wow factor. I want to drive a monkey around the USA for a few months so the 2022 would be better as to do maintenance on the road easily with a a few bolts and not like 20 bolts plus opening case up and touching internals which is a horrible design and could turn into a fatal flaw for a simple oil change. I finally decided to go with the 2022 after watching and reading up about the upgrades......except they are gone now!hahaha. The 2021 blue is all that is available near me. If no stripped bolts while doing maintenance happens on the road and 10 minutes is an hour now every 2000 miles and I'll keep smiling. Happy trails......

I’m confused, how would changing the front sprocket mess with the speedo reading? Isn’t the speed measurement taken from the front wheel rotations? PS. Here in Australia we got four colors to choose from with the 2022 model, Yellow, Blue, Red & Black plus we get an alarm with remote, ABS is standard on the front and the cool little clear lens indicator’s.

@@motohound90 Interesting, I had a quick look on my Monkey (2022 Blue) and couldn’t see any cables to the front wheel for the speedo. I’ll have to see if there is any information in the service manual to recalibrate the speedo as I was thinking of fitting the 14 tooth front sprocket too.

@@YamahaTT500F i liked the performance/acceleration gains enough to deal with the speedo offset. It reads about 3-4mph faster than stock speedo. Didnt want to spend anymore money on an already expensive bike for what it is.
@CrustyBiker
2 жыл бұрын
Also does that cog swap give you higher top speed or faster acceleration, because I thought it was to give you better top end cruising speed, but I would imagine if you did that, the speedo would read lower than you're actually going, not higher?
@motohound90
2 жыл бұрын
Usually you lose a little top end if you gain acceleration but i think alot of people get confused by this and think theyre gaining top speed too. Its a mod that helps allow the gears to rev a bit higher and pulls more (increased acceleration) The good news is I havent really noticed an actual drop in top speed on this one so its really a no brainer. Bike was always topping out at around 56 mph on flat ground for me and now it says 60 on speedo but really 56 mph.
@jimmywallace2782
2 жыл бұрын
@@motohound90 You're correct in that usually lowering the gear ratio will result in lower top speed but... since the monkey can't get to the rev limiter in 4th gear, lowering the ratio lets it turn higher rpms. 14 tooth will throw the speed-0 off but your top speed is likely to remain the same (but with better acceleration and uphill capabilities) Honda really lost it with the 2022 paint (non matched frame and the 2 tone tank with the emblem placed on the paint seam)
