Better buy the breaks before you need them. I use to work for Hyundai/Genesis so I know the product pretty well. I have always been a fan of the 3.8 Coupe. I prefer the auto over the stick but the shifter on the newer Elantra's and some of the other Hyundai's is superior to the Genesis 😡. Doesn't seem fair, but it's a fact. You actually got me thinking about buying one used. You/I can find them at a big discount in the used market! I would strongly recommend buying them certified from a Hyundai dealer, that way you get the 10 year 100 K power train warranty. If you buy a Hyundai Or Genesis from anybody other than a Hyundai dealer you loose the power train warranty.

The 2.0T isn't a bad choice, you get a decent headstart with the turbo. As simple tunes can put the 2.0T at the 3.8's level or even a little surpassing it without having to spending too much on a bigger turbo and reinforced internals. But with the right know how, that 3.8 is still a beast.

Ok I have a 2.0t 2013 model and last dyno run I hit 413 whp. I have stock turbo running 10lbs of boost new intake manifold larger throttle body, 1000cc fuel injectors injen cold air intake forge motor sports bov, ISR O2 housing ISR downpipe and ISR catback exhaust with an alpha speed go tune. All of that cost me about 3,200$ not 5 grand. To add ho and toque to the 3.8 even just a solid 50hp you will definitely be spending over 5k easy. You severely underestimate the mixing capability of the 2.0 but it’s understandable when you can buy a car stock with decent power. I promise you if you got the 2.0 and over time spent some money and a little bit of time with it you could have gotten more out of the engine. Also the sound with said modifications I listed are amazing. Love taking it through tunnels and underpasses. Though cars will never catch my attention like my motorcycles will, tbh I am proud of the way my car has turned out. Been running the modifications and tune for a little over 2 years now with absolutely no issues besides a heat shield on my exhaust going loose.

I love my 16 3.8 just got it 2 months ago traded up from my 13 Elantra stick, I had to go with the auto due to health issues can't use clutch but I still love the auto 3.8. I need to get some shit done to it to get more low end power, it doesn't get up and go like it should midrange to redline is a monster though!

@@FatalFist I agree they can get pretty expensive I've done alot more to the car this season then I thought wouldn't be done till end of next, it's my only hobby I mean I don't drink so no bars don't smoke which is crazy expensive etc but that this hobby is cheap but it's my only thing I do about of spend time with buddies at meets/shows and cruises. I'm sorry to hear your having to change your life around i hope it's nothing major, regardless things always change and it'll get better trust me it may not be tomorrow or next week or next year but it will get better. Keep enjoying your car as much as possible i find its a great way to just drive and think clear your mind of any negative shit going on, even if only for that short drive is worth it. 👌

i got a 2013 2.0T, even a simple 500$ tune would crank the power up substantially. my peak torque greatly surpasses the 3.8, and the HP is very close to the 3.8. lets face it, the only reason you get a 3.8 is the sound, or turbo kit potential.

302WHP and 360WTQ with Aftermarket O2 housing, 3inch down pipe/high flow cats and custom tune. All for under 2k Canadian. Had this tune for nearly 4 years with no issue. Clutch went recently but that's it. 2.0t stock turbo and motor are heavily underestimated.

No doubt i envy that 3.8 sound! The cost of a turbo kit for a 3.8 and work included is not cheap. I Canada it's cheaper to just drop in a 2JZ. Several 2jz motors listed for 3k with either a GETRAG or R154 5-speed trans depending on your budget would still be cheaper then slapping a turbo kit on a 3.8. Wear that H with Pride! :)

I remember having a 2011 black gen coupe 3.8 r-spec with gloss black wing badges with carbon fiber middle. People would always ask me what car was it? I even got pulled over and the cop didnt believe it was a hyundai. The thing i hated was the 5th gear grind that shit was terrible lol but i do miss that car alot.

Where did you get 5k$ (USD or CND) in upgrades to compete with the 3.8? I spent under 2k$ CND and achieve more WHP/WTQ with a custom tune and a good 02housing/downpipe. 302WHP and 360WTQ. If you could elaborate, i'd genuinely like to know. Edit: Should clarify this is on a 2013 2.0t Cheers

Several things you can do to fix this. First try installing Megan Racing Harden Trans Mounts, for most this will solve the issue. If the issue persists, go with a better trans oil and possibly a stainless steal line. If all else fails, look into getting a Comp clutch kit, this will likely solve the issue. Good luck!

The Brembo breaks are VERY expensive for the parts alone. Pads and rotors will cost almost 5 grand. They are overkill for on the street especially for that much cash!!!

1state152 great ? well i think the low end torque issue on the 3.8 isnt bad enough to want nearly 100hp less than the 3.8. but it would be nice to have the 2.0t so i could upgrade the turbo ect. to have the same hp as the 3.8 and have great low end torque. but when i was deciding between the 3.8 and the 2.0 i didnt have another 5k to drop in the 2.0 to get it to the same power as the 3.8. so id say if you want power now like i did then get the 3.8 but if you want to tinker and have the money to do so right now then get the 2.0t. Hope this helps

The prices on the kits change at one point it was 8 depending out which one you got. I have the Kit on mine its a 2015 3.8 ultimate I spent less than that I have a video of my ride check it out if your thinking about boosting, its totally different car after !

As for 2nd gear lockout. Look around on the forums for the "engine leash". It made a huge difference in my 1st to 2nd gear shifts. Look it up, it looks stupid but it works great. A guy on Facebook is selling then under 3point8 performance or something like that. I think they're like 40 Ish bucks so what's to lose.

Ryan's Random RideZ it is exactly a steel cable that mounts from your strut tower on the drivers side, all the way over to your engine hoist point on the back of the motor. All you do is bolt it up and put just make the cable just snug and you're good to go. It keeps the engine from flopping around between shifts when you depress the clutch. It's almost like beefing up the engine mounts without all the added vibration.

I guess I should've also explained it seems that a lot of shifting problems in the genesis coupe are caused by weak powertrain mounts. The engine and transmission are moving way too much while you're trying to precisely slide the shifter through the gates. The megan transmission mount also helps if you haven't done that yet (sorry can't remember).

It's simple, if your a tuner and you actually care about speed get the 2.0 if you don't care about speed get the 3.8

I have a 3.8 and would kill 2.o...2.0 with turbo at first but 3.8 kills it everyday

blinky29730 cnt v3 cat back. With resonator delete in place two strait pipes and ark downpipes and ark test pipes
