I think some of the commentors are missing the point. She is not in the US but in Bali or an island similar to Bali. It doesn't take much USD to achieve an easy carefree lifestyle like this if you put your mind to it and work hard for a few years. You could work and save and invest or work remote and live on a wonderful island with all the nomad visa options available. If you want to stay in the rat race that is part of the US culture, it's your choice but being free and relaxing like she is showing in this video is really possible if you want it.

Well said. That's the only real currency we have in life. Time. Make the most of it doing what you love. You can live a good life anywhere but definitely Bali is a slice of heaven. Not sure how affordable it is as inflation has driven prices up everywhere but you can find affordable places to live outside of big cities. Like in America if you live in the NYC San Fran and big cities it's expensive but if you move further out into suburbs and smaller towns you can find affordable housing and your own little slice of heaven without a mortgage noose and enjoy life a little. But she touched on a very important point. Live below your means. Control your spending. I see alot of people make good money working long hours to pay for the big house Mercedes Hermes handbag and all the materialism of the modern world. And there's nothing wrong with that if you have the money and it brings you joy. So I think it comes down to pursing what you love and managing your money wisely.

@@misanthrope_01There are a lot of gems in this video regardless. I live in a one bedroom apartment in a city/country I hate, everybody I love is an ocean and an ‘impossible’ visa process away, but there’s things I can do to be present and prioritize contentment over the rat race many find themselves in. I can choose to spend less time on my phone doom scrolling, to take my time to really taste the food, to go on a walk while I talk to my friend instead of rotting in bed, be in nature more, pause to smell the flowers. The view from my room is grey and hideous but I still enjoy the sunrise from my bed. Yes, circumstances can suck compared to this lady’s, but *you* gotta make the best of what you got. You’d be surprised how many people make all the money you dream of, but never spend it, because they’re stuck mentally just like the rest of us.

It's been a whole different mental challenge to feel my value, to understand my worth of I didn't have a career. I'm home every day and survive on a small amount of money. But it allows me to slow down and notice things that others don't care about in their rush. And I love the stillness. There's so much beauty and grace in the stillness. I read, cook, journal, write letters to family, take care of the cat and dog. And I am working towards having an online business with my daughter, selling vintage and antiques, which is my great passion. I am never bored. I have begun to find the good in this imperfect body. I'm 62, visually-impaired to the point of not being able to drive, and I also believe I have other undiagnosed disabilities which have made it next to impossible for me to keep a FT job. (Not get, but keep) I was dumped by my ex-wife after 20 years because I could never be the PWE she was looking for, and she was tired of having her whole life consumed with worrying about me - to the point where she couldn't even be herself. Probably a good reason to divorce someone, but I've been forced to accept and love myself with the knowledge that I have "failed" first myself, and then other key family members, because I couldn't provide for them. Let alone, the idea that I'm not "crushing it" at life! It's a hard thing to live with in a society that places a price tag on the value of everything and everyone. But I also feel down deep that that is all bs, and I am just as much a quality person as anyone, regardless of my w2's! After all, this is the same society that treats homeless people like garbage, and when they walk by them, acts like they don't even exist!! I'm still fighting to some degree, but I am very tired of having to beg for my subsistence. And now that I have my Social Security, I pick and choose which jobs I do to make ends meet, realizing that the simpler a lifestyle I lead, and the less "stuff" I acquire, the less dependent I have to be on others to employ me. But in general, I have given up on the standard 9-5 ever working for me, as it never has. That's why this video so appealed to me.

I would say that what really matters in life is the truth ABOUT life. And what really matters in life is understanding why we live, breath, move and have our being, and responding accordingly. As the Bible says, God is the Potter and we are the clay, and there is no way a clay pot can properly define itself by denying its maker and looking in the mirror all day long. To be rich in God, in good works, in virtue, in faith, love and service toward others, and in the hope of eternal life, etc, is to be rich where it matters most. You don't want to die like the farmer in the Bible who, after yet another bumper crop, only built bigger barns to store his increase. He died a fool, being only rich in himself but poor where it mattered most.

I moved to the middle of nowhere all by myself, but with my dog. My dad called it voluntary simplicity which I think just helped him explain me to his peers, but I joke I’m a classic underachiever. You did that! Well said, all the way around. I retired at 41 from the Army, everyone wanted me to go and get a job. I was like the point, when I was 14yrs old, was to be retired after my 20 years in the Army. When in the Army, I had to get up before the sun was up and really never got to enjoy Beautiful Morning Sunrises, unless on the weekends. There were too many days, over the 20+ years, that I just wanted to sit and enjoy the birds and not have any concern for my duties. I got that at 41 and have not let others influence me to get back into the rat race. Much Love to you and yours.

Hi everyone! Thank you for sharing your thoughts in the comments. My husband & I are so incredibly grateful that we were able to F.I.R.E & retire over 2 years ago to live in beautiful yet affordable Bali, Indonesia (where this video was shot). This had been our dream since ≈ 2016 - and through dedicated years of working, saving and investing, we were able to actualise our dream in 2021. If you'll like to find out more about this there's more information here kzitem.info/news/bejne/mYCC1GaabWWImawsi=i1v3Ufus1mMnRegZ. There have been many comments regarding how we are able to afford our slow living beach lifestyle, so I just wanted to clarify. Everyone walks a different path in life. For many years, when i was still struggling as a "surfer trapped in the body of a lawyer" in Singapore, I was deeply conflicted & upset that my peers all seemed to be happy living the normal conventional life in Singapore, working, getting successful, being with their friends and family. Why on earth was it so difficult only for me? It's been an emotionally and physically challenging journey for me to build the life I have today, brick by brick. It's taken over 12 years, and I can't claim all the credit. Providence has been so kind as to reward all our risk taking and hard work... I'm very fortunate to have started from a fairly privileged position in life - few debts, no dependents... and the universe also sent me my husband to share my dreams and my burdens. If you'd asked me at 29 (when I quit my job) what I thought my life would be at 38 (when we retired), I never would have imagined even anything remotely akin to our reality now. So for everyone out there who shares similar dreams to V & I, I just want to encourage you to tune out the external noise, listen to your internal voice and follow your own compass. Take it one step at a time, and you might be there sooner than you realise. I just wanted to share my thoughts on this. Thanks for watching :)

I’m 32, and I start feeling like we are being fooled by go-go, have a great life, push-push.. Maybe that’s why I have such crazy procrastination about everything I have and do.. I have some ideas of what I want to do, but they are not ego-based, they are simple yet I feel it’s the fears of unknown that block my courage to pursue.. It’s a very interesting feeling, and I kind of like it.. ❤

Dear Jean you are very lucky 🍀 You are already living in a paradise weather. People in the west are working hard and have to sacrifice a lot to visit Bali. It is a very magnetic place. I already visited Bali 4 times always enjoyed it. Weather in Melbourne where I live is so cold for 6 months, you can not watch the sunsets in summer clothes. Many people are getting very depressed, they do things only because they have to do it. Your videos always make me happy 😊 and positive 🙏😍☀️✈️

What makes me depressed, is to see such a paradise-like life, and then hear that it all came by choosing not to work. Who can afford a life like that, without working?

Me too. I’m gonna buy a beautifully-appointed, hilltop villa, with breathtaking views of the sea and not strive. 😊 I think (hope) what Ms. Voronkova is saying is: “Once you have enough, stop”!- because acquiring is a MEANS, not an end. The quiet that Ms. Voronkove-shows is, to me, a lovely life. Thank you

yes exactly that. It definitely is a huge privilege to be able to step out from the striving path, but if it is something that is possible, more people should seriously consider if what they're currently doing is truly bringing them happiness. Happy Sunday!

Lovely thoughts Jean. It reminds me, when I hear someone say Go Big or Go Home, I want to smile and ask, where's home? And what if we scaled that to a human size, somewhere calm and welcoming? Go big if you want to, that's ok. But chilling at home can also be good, relaxing, and rewarding. A hike in the woods, a cup of tea, some fresh flowers, a chance to lift up a friend. This.

Thank you Jean 🙏🏿 I'm on a spiritual journey of gratitude for the small things in life and your video resonates with my view of life. The capitalist world we live in is the opposite of being grateful for what's important. True bliss is found in your video 🥰

I freaking loved this video, my daughter became ill and I was laid off, this happened in 2016 and since then I have desired to manifest one thing, full freedom to do what I want without the need of a job, or selling my time for my survival, I do have time freedom but the financial freedom hasn't arrived yet, Im certain it will, and I aspire to simply thrive, on my terms. Love Love your bravery. Success looks different to everyone. I applaud yours! You are actually LIVING!, most are just surviving! To me you are one of the most successful people I have had the pleasure to learn about. I aspire to live just this way! Thank you for making it cool to be a happy human. Period🥰

Hi Jean, thanks for yet another wonderful video ❤ you’ve been an inspiration 🎉I’ve been commenting on a couple of your previous videos and I just left my job on 31/1. It’s been a tough 4 years and am just glad to have removed myself from the situation. Looking forward to more freedom in my next job 😊 Hope you have a wonderful 2024 🌻

I couldn't agree more. This idea that happiness comes from having material things or achieving things that everybody considers important is so wrong. Happiness comes from analyzing what really is important to us. I was always first in class at school and my school friends always thought I would be "super successful in life". I'm 33 years old now. I don't have my own house yet (I do want to have one someday, but at this point I'm valuing my freedom to experience living in different places), I don't have a car, I don't have children, I am a self-employed English teacher, and I live a simple life. I feel that my friends feel sorry for me because I don't have what they think that means to be successful in life. But I have what really is important to me: I have a job I love, I work only 5 hours a day and 4 days a week, I have plenty of free time to study what I like, read, travel, cook, and spend time with my loved ones, and I make enough money to pay my bills and save for my retirement. I couldn't be happier.

Love that you’ve personally defined what “success” means to you. Keep doing what you’re doing. It’s inspirational! I’m 28, welder, and recently decided to scale back to 30-35hours weekly. I value my free time, cooking, reading spending time with friends and I no longer want the 60hour weeks and being out every weekend. It’s time for me to do the same as you.

This. Exactly this. Thank you for sharing your story Eliana. I was also faced with all these expectations and pressure cos i always did well in school, but i was miserable following "their" success formula. Now some look at me and think i'm wasting my life away but i'm really happy with my simple living choices, like you are too. Thanks girl.

This is excellent. Your mindset is reflective of mine after retiring early last year from corporate America and becoming a world traveler. After finally getting the big promotion, the big salary, the big house…I was empty inside. Hard work had only been rewarded with *more* hard work. I sold everything, and buried the “old me” in an unmarked grave. I now bring the best of myself to every day, doing whatever I please.

Right??? That's what struck me as odd with this video. She said she was a lawyer for 12 years making big bank and now she's preaching about contentment and living a simple life whilst living semi retired in a nice house near the beach whilst still eating out regularly. Go live off the land in a timber shack then preach to everyone about contentment. So disingenuous and inauthentic.

I think you missed the point- She could have continued the corporate climb, started her own firm or business, had 3 kids, strived to purchase some rental properties etc. But she didn’t. I don’t think the message is that you should drop out of high school and have no ambition. Anyway, I got a lot out of it and was a good reminder to me to slow down and just do less!

Well obviously you have to earn your keep, otherwise who do you expect to feed you while you're off chasing your simple dreams and hobbies? Her point is she's done that, she's paid her dues, and now she's not buying into that hypercommercialised propaganda that you should keep chasing MORE and MORE for the rest of your sad life feeding the neocapitalist machine. Do enough, then do what makes you happy for the rest of it. That's the point.

@@jimmyloughnan9656 She said she quit law at 29, which means she probably only worked for 7 years tops (and junior lawyers make rubbish money). I believe she said in another video that her lifestyle costs $2k/month which is chump change for most Westerners. Instead of criticising try learning from her example...you can retire young if you make smart choices.
