Good video and sincere review. The Rust-Oleum is not a bad idea in those circumstances. Hammered Rust-Oleum spray paint and even better, engine block spray paint work great on slides, just as good as Cerakote from what I've seen if not better. The pitting after the painting probably came from moisture or rust that was under the paint. Easy fix is to scrub off the rust with sand paper, brillo or even using a steal brush lightly. Then treat by painting on a phosphoric acid rust prevention treatment and letting it dry overnight. It will leave an iron phosphate coating that is black in color. This will prevent any further rusting once you apply the paint. Just rub the top layer of it off and apply the spray paint and your good to go. The acid can be found where paints are sold. Sounds more complicated than it is. It's just one extra step. I've used the same process on rusted tools. As to the guns, they are both great firearms. My g43 has had no malfunctions.The Shields I've owned worked great and shot and handled better for me than the 43. However, every Shield that I have shot chokes on aluminum cased ammo. Just will not extract properly and get double feeds. Sucks as this is the majority of cheap range ammo I use. No problems with them otherwise.

if my Glock 43 was that beat up looking. I would just give it to a friend. I wouldn't sell it to her like that. Send the slide to somebody who's competent. And they'll coat it right. Plus, you don't have to worry about her sweating the way you do. It's gonna last.

Smith and Wesson stand behind their guns!!! I called and told them i had a recoil spring that is getting worn and it does not always seat on the barrel the first time i put it in. Told them i bought it used as well. They said "Oh! Well that's not good, give me your address and i will get you a new one sent out right away". Another time i got a Bodyguard 38 with the old crappy gray button laser on it. The laser button was hard from being old and it would not turn on. Also i told them it was getting light primer strikes and asked if they could please check the timing. They had it for 2 weeks and sent it back with almost everything replaced. Brand new Crimson Trace red button laser and new cylinder, hammer and firing pin setup. Basically the whole insides were all replaced. You can't go wrong with S&W / M&P. I have a G43 now and i am not looking forward to trying to work with Glock if something happens to it. Anything internal you can buy and fix yourself pretty much as they are very simple and that is what makes them so well designed and great.. You might do better to sand and polish the slide to a mirror finish.. Sometimes the polished finish can hold up from rust very well...

Love my Shield, even with the trigger that everybody trashes. It just feels right in my hand. And magguts gives an extra round keeping the factory base plate without extending the grip length.So you get 9+1 in the 8 round mag without sacrificing concealability. I agree that the Glock and the Sig are amazing pistols. And to each his own. The Shield just feels right for me, and i don't mind saving a Ben Franklin or 2 as long as the quality and reliability are there in the gun. I actually was able to pick up a bodyguard 380 along with it for about the same price as one of the more expensive guns. But you can't go wrong with any of the firearms you mentioned.

Same thing happened to my Gen4 G19. Mine wore the finish on the top edge of the slide from rubbing against a kydex holster...yea... granted there was probably dirt and junk helping from working in the yard during the summer. I started noticing some light rust when upholstering at the end of the day. Didn't worry about it too much and then noticed it was pitting. I ended up sending it out to ATEi to have the slide milled for an RMR and enhanced front and rear serrations. Had them do a coating, maybe melanite, can't remember. Whatever it is, it's a much better finish. You can still see the pitting in my slide, bit I think its gtg now. My gen3 g17 finish is bomb proof.

Nice shooting. I really like the concept of the P365 and the capacity innovation was long overdue. I'd been wondering for years why no one could jam a few more rounds in that form factor when someone reminded me about the Kel Tec P11, which has essentially the same 1" diameter and other dimensions as the P365 but just wasn't refined, light and reliable enough to sell well. As usual Kel Tec has interesting ideas, but fall down on the production side. Sig kind of fell victim to their own hype when those problems cropped up with the 1st and 2nd generation versions (I'm still hearing about occasional magazine, striker and battery-return issues). Even the Poe Performance guy, who was an early adopter and ardent supporter of the P365 ended up selling his. It just goes to show how reliability issues are the most important thing to get right and get right quickly in any new gun offering, especially in the era of KZitem and social media. I can't blame you for liking the Shield more than everything else (though I think it's a toss up between that and the Walther PPS). It's a great gun with great features.

For the Record: skin oils are not acidic: they are alkaline. That means basic: that means the pH is over 7.0 on the pH scale. Anything away from a balance pH of 7 is gonna be corrosive. Soaps are alkaline. The alkaline in skin oils helps inhibit bacterial growth. The zinc in stainless steel (the Shield slide & barrel) make it more resistant to corrosion than the non-stainless metal in the Glock. In Glock, neither the slide nor the barrel are SS. Both are w S&W, w 365, only the slide is SS.

@@Venomxjjb There is one thing you need to know , about the Shield , that you may or may not think is important , but to some people means the difference between wanting this as a carry weapon or not even considered . The Shield has a slide stop and not a slide release , it tells you in the owners manual , it is not designed to be able to press the slide stop lever to release the slide upon quick mag changes , the slide must be pulled back and released in a slingshot method. If , as in a lot of the Shields , over time it becomes functional as a slide release it means probably , as has been in most cases , that if you slam a fresh magazine in , the slide releases automatically . The slide stop notch is very shallow and the design is different from others in that the fulcrum point is back and has much less leverage , most other guns have the lever directly in line with the notch , that includes S & W 's Bodyguard 380 .

I have NEVER seen any Glock pistol finish look as bad as yours. I don’t mean to offend you at all, but DAMN brother! Did you use it as a hammer, or use it as a construction/farming implement? The sides of the slide looks like you took a razor knife to it! I honestly cannot fault Glock for charging you to repair the finish of your G43. Total abuse/neglect on your end, brother. WOW!! 🇺🇸🗽🦅🇦🇹
@Outdoors-ty8hp

Chuck Driver the black finish on the g43 was spray paint. The only “abuse” I did to it was drawing from the holster and sweating on it. 👍🏻 thanks for watching !!

Hello there I am seriously considering a 365. You mentioned that your rental was at 16,000 round count without cleaning or failure is that correct? What is it now?
@Outdoors-ty8hp
4 жыл бұрын
Yes, it was at 16k rounds. Well over 40 now. Pistol had been rebuilt by sig several times. They tend to give up at around 15k rounds based on my experience, which is very good imo. You’ll be fine with a new P365 today.

Ok I’m hoping this will be my final decision. Anyone with ideas welcome. I own a M&P Shield for 3-4 years now and from day one I install Truglo sights, a Pearce pinky extension.and magguts in the two seven round magazines , been running those mags with no failures, also no failures on the Shield. I’m also purchasing the Apex flat trigger only and decided to keep the Shield instead of trading it for a Glock.

Mike 45 Only other mod I highly recommend and love on mine is a Strike Industries +2 mag extension. It ran flawlessly with around 200 rounds through it so far. I love the extra grip it gives me. I shot a Glock 17 I think it was... I prefer my Shield by far. Renting guns at the range has been fun but I prefer my Shield.

I had one of the first gen m&p compacts and it began to rust the same way. I wore undershirts and had a high sweat guard on my holster but it still wasn’t enough. There’s a company by the name of “Robar Guns” that offers a coating that’s designed for wet/salty conditions and highly corrosion-resistant called NP3+. They offer a lifetime warranty as well. Only downside is that the finish is slick. robarguns.com/custom-firearm-finishes/np3-plus/

I guess I don’t see what’s controversial? People need to swallow their pride. Maybe the 365 doesn’t deserve all the shit it gets. Don’t know or really care. The Shield 2.0 is a fantastic gun! I shoot the same Winchester steel case at the range often. I agree it will cause malfunctions from time to time. So far I’ve only had one range session where I had problems with it. The loads were light and inconsistent. Sometimes I could barely feel recoil because the load was so light. Not enough to cycle the slide. Even then out of 150rnds I had like 3-4 failure to extract with a Steyr M9. Nice vid!

i dont understand how your glock looks like that or even rusted. i carried a g23 gen 4 for years, thousands of rounds and thousands of times in and out of holsters it looks no where near like yours. it has wear marks on the nose of the gun but small amounts and some fading or like smudging if you know what i mean on the rear from me racking it a lot but thats it
@Outdoors-ty8hp

john russo older glocks had a lot better finishes then latter gen 4 glocks. One reason why it looks so bad in the video is cause I spray painted it just to fight off the rust. Worked pretty good .

You cannot beat the customization of the G43 or any Glock for that matter and I know 100% of the time the Glock will fire and not stop until it’s empty. Overtime the quality of the Glock will outcompete the S&W just my HO
