The last point is really important. Most injuries when working with well socialized wild animals are actually play related. It's the first thing I was told when I got to interact with some cheetahs a long time ago. *in heavy Afrikaans accent* "Joy here is asking for belly rubs." *points to a (sober) adult female cheetah rolling on her back after inspecting me* "DON'T rub her like a dog. Pet her very heavily and closer to her back, with a lot of force like you would a mule. If you tickle her, she could rip you all over without even noticing." *points to multiple nasty, bulging white lines on his right forearm* Cheetahs have basically never killed anyone and are relatively small. When you take that principle and add the weight, strength, and ferocity of a brown bear, if they start playing rough you don't get scars, you get dead.

I have a cute little Golden retriever girl and she's cute and fluffy...UNTIL YOU TRY TO GET SOMETHING OUT OF HER MOUTH! I even got a little bleeding wound on my hand from her biting me when she got a tissue on walks or was eating something like a sock, it was only a small scratch but that's because she's a cute little fluffy retriever, imagine a pitbull or German shepherd! Last night there was a possum on the fence and she sensed it through the closed blind, she immediately ran outside and acted like a fierce guard dog and gave it a scary growl, I was scared knowing that my little fluffy snuggle puff could switch like that, but it was cute and she would never want to hurt us.

@@alexturnbackthearmy1907 This is going to sound kind of cringey, but if the bear managed to get a perfect storm of falling mass, strike, and location, they are easily powerful enough to break a spine or tear a claw in. Those animals can harness so much power they break motor mounts on cars. A moose is a mean bastard, but bears kill mooses (Meese?) every so often. I've never had the opportunity to hunt a moose, but I've heard they can shrug off lung shots from a .270 for quite a while on virtue of how much blood they have. IF that is true, it would make sense a bear would learn to go for a CNS kill over the generations of hunting or just prior experience.

How can someone's definition of cute be "problematic"? Maybe it's not what most people would think about a particular animal, but that doesn't make it problematic. I think it's actually endearing when people can look past common stigma and see something for more than just that. I personally think my vinegaroon and millipede are super cute, and my companions agree with me. I would totally have a pet hissing roach too if they weren't illegal here.

i think that even if the brown bears were to trust him enough to play with him, yeah, they could fail to recognize how strong they are. if you raise an animal from the cub, they learn how hard they can bite, scratch or grab you without hurting you, so they can control their strength accordingly, since the trial and error phase happened when they were still very young and not as dangerous. having a trail and error with how much strength an adult bear can use on you can be deadly
@IcariumGaming

@commanderppI think you're overreacting to this comment. He was speaking about raising a bear from a young age. Even if his logic is failed, these are not a domesticated species. Yes black bears can kill just as easily, and we had a recent case where a single black bear killed two people, it attacked a woman, and then a man went to their rescue, killing both and their dog. However trial and error, places a lot of assumptions of a species that routinely kills its own.

@commanderppyour actually partly right as is the other dude. Hardly any black bears get to the weight and size a of an adult brown bear. Temperament is definitely a big factor maybe the biggest but you can't prove that. There are way more people that have interacted with black bears than brown bears in enclosures.

I learned recently something interesting about why black bears are relatively docile. Apparently it's because when they evolved there were far more dangerous predators around. They were relatively low on the totem pole so most likely the entire reason that they are still here is because they are kind of skittish. They had to avoid black bears, sabertooth tigers, lions, Woolly rhinos, woolly mammoths, etc. Black bears are probably still here because they will eat anything and are pretty adaptable.
@AnarexicSumo
10 ай бұрын
@@cuchanuI’d chalk it up more to the fact that, while both are foragers first, grizzlies are much, much more likely to hunt. Polar bears sort of confirm this as they do actually hunt primarily and are far and away more aggressive than even grizzlies even though orcas have been known to hunt them
