Hi! I unlocked these past few years the rare ability to both crave and dread sleep, at every minute of the day and the night. Somehow. I'm not even old! I just used to get nightmares a lot, but I also get super tired from the living nightmare that is being a modern human. So I can't get into bed unless I muster a lot of courage and determination, which usually takes a while, or until I pass out from sheer exhaustion, and then I regret it for the rest of my life

@@lilywashere27 I feel this. It's like going to sleep is a time skip to the next morning where I have to slog my way through the day again. But it also means I'll feel more rested. I'm pretty sure it's a manifestation of depression (dreading the next day and all). I hope u are able to someone about this (like a therapist), I know it's helping me. edit: it would be really awkward if ur actually feeling something totally different lol

Long time ago, my father used to sleep in the hospital basement, in a room with a single lightbulb that... he could not turn off. Oh (edit) and there was a speaker on the ceiling too with which they would call him up when an emergency came in ! He still has nightmares about it to this day. You have it good Rohin ! (but seriously, without dedicated, selfless people like you, the world would be a far far worse place - so even though there's a big pond between us and I'll hopefully never meet you in a hospital, *thank you* for all you do!)

though I do miss these - also recognised that you, your life, your career moved past this point. well, mostly.... (obviously - since you made this...). I did shift work for... almost 2 years - 12 hour shifts, 7pm to 7am for 2 nights, (so SLEEP) then 7am to 7pm for 2 days, then...3 and a half days off (4 & half?) . LOVED the nights (yes, I know, very sick puppy me, or rather extreme night owl) - weekend days ok - but week days could be a bit of a struggle (with colleagues working 'normal' hours coming & going) (was a "trading analyst" trading electricity - if trade wasn't input into the system every half an hour - system controlling national grid would fail - MOST of our work could have been done automatically to be honest - esp when on shift, trading 2 hours in the future - BUT - if something went wrong - in real time - well... - my most senior colleague, most senior & experienced *lost* something like 1.5 MILLION dollars in just two trades (so basically an hour) - NOT the same as losing someone - as in the medical field, but still...) (at the time, our goal, on the trading desk was $2 million in profit during that entire 12 hour shift - I set a new record of, i think $3.4 million in profit one shift... (oh _this_ completely *separate* from consumers - people & their (& my) power bills - completely *different* process) plus I was both on shift, as the trader - when were we _this close_ 🤏to black start - complete cascade failure of the entire national grid - (my colleague, the generation controller - and a guy we had spent a week with (all new to our respective positions/companies) in control of national grid at that point (2 of them in one location, 2 in another location - they switch over regularly, like couple of hours - ) they did most of the work - constant calls for me to change this, change that in real time, from both of them (they were in constant verbal communication) so the system would 'solve' - entire national grid hairs breathe away from cascade failure - bit daunting attending the debrief after - literally hundreds of people from various organisations - how did this happen - how can we prevent it from happening again (basically *really* cold morning everywhere - massive spike in consumption as people work up, ALL generation, even back up/reserve online to meet demand, almost wasn't enough, literally all generation of power not enough to meet demand..) - kindof forget when it's mostly just you, alone, for 12 hours in the middle of the night, real world consequences of your actions...

I think I can answer the stain mystery as I have one myself! You're going to need a xenobiologist and a priest... ... ok, more seriously, it's a combination of cheap paint, and someone sleeping on their side. I tend to sleep on my arm, almost in the recovery position, and that means my hand is against the wall about half the time when I'm asleep. I've managed to wear totally through the paint on the patch of wall next to my head in the space of a couple of years. I know it's not my hair because I have extra cushioning between me and it.

Although the Conservative government has had 14 consecutive years of culpability for the current state of the NHS, the blame is not all theirs, to be fair. But having visited an NHS hospital recently, I can say that your digs aren't all that bad. It's worthy of note that the word 'bedlam' originates from a particular NHS hospital, although to singularly attribute that word to the Bethlehem Royal Hospital is unfair.
