Just preparing for my retirement at this age and just enjoy the rest of my life alone or with a partner until my demise. Can't afford to risk and hustle too much. Peace is more important at this age. You're in a fortunate situation with parents that are willing to give you a place to stay as needed and there's nothing wrong with that. We all have our own individual advantages in life and need to lean into them to maximize our chances of succeeding. It's a good choice to live at home to save up money and pay off those debts. I think you're correct about the comment likely being from someone in the U.S. and they are likely in their 30s/40s. My family has stood behind the idea that once you're 18, you're out of the house. It's this horrible sense of "tough love" but i feel like things are changing here now. I first left when I was 16 out of anxiety of having to leave at 18, failed hard and returned home after half a year. At 18, I had to be out again. It's so stupid and just made me think my parents didn't give a shit. And while I did survive, i felt like there was so much unnecessary suffering. And for what, to "build character"? Every other culture is at home until they get engaged or get married. Families are much more untited than they are here in the states. Your commenter is likely saying what they're saying out of a place of jealousy.

Lack of national service (NS) has nothing to do with Daniel's issues. The UK military should only be for people who really want to join it as the UK has lots of overseas territories to defend so it does not need people who are just doing service because they are forced into it and their heart isn't in it. The current UK* conservative government is only bringing up NS as a way to get votes from the pension-aged people; basically pure politicking; nothing else. Not every young person is like Daniel. Daniel as far as I understand had both of his parents before his dad passed away and I believe he worked alongside his dad at his job so how much more "direction" does he need; and his sister is a software developer so obviously she has her stuff sorted. There are young people that are goal-orientated and have skills and young people who are not; simple as that and re-instituting a redundant national service system will not change that.

A lot of people also move out for opportunities though. A year or two ago, I actually would have agreed with everything you said, but I'm from a part of the UK which is pretty dead if you're not a student and I'm just so sick of seeing the same people with their small town mindset. Yes rent in the big city fucking sucks but I've been able to explore things and meet people I never would have, start dating, expanding my network etc. So I think it's simply pros and cons. Had I chosen to be a doctor or engineer, I would have probably been good to stay at home and then just keep on living there, but for a lot of us we want to see other parts of the world and different ways of life. I'm really grateful to my parents for never kicking me out, and in fact even now they're more than happy for me to live with them. We're not all that privileged, so I think for people with parents as a safety net it might actually make more sense to get out there and do 'exciting' things, like perhaps long-term travelling, working abroad or living in a large city.

i quite enjoyed this video and agree with almost everything you said, execpt that part about the tax situation not being your fault. That's definitely on you, so take accountability. Otherwise, great video. Make more like this.
