The shipping system is ridiculous everywhere. The fact that they had the balls to try and make you pay again after they knowlingly sent it back to you when they couldn't get the package to where you wanted to send it after you already paid that ridiculous amount is so crazy to me. They should have been fully responsible for it not getting to where it was supposed to go. Especially when you're already paying that insane amount for shipping. I would have been livid. I don't blame you for not wanting to do it again and I totally respect the patience of the winner of the contest. Kudos to the both of you for handling it so well and professionally. It should be a crime for shipping to be that expensive without it being automatically refundable.

Canada Post sound like crooks. How they can claim they fulfilled their end of the contract initially is beyond me. You paid over $300 for delivery to the address in Scotland. Not $300 for them to get it to Royal Mail and hope for the best. The contract is still with them and theyre responsible for ultimate delivery - it didnt get delivered so they should have refunded (even when it was out of their control - as it isnt your problem that they hand it to Royal Mail) Glad to hear it all ended well :)

To be honest, given how things turned out, I would hope this would be _more_ of a reason to do another giveaway. Obviously, the headache of dealing with the post is an issue, but the end result of what happened is really a great thing. Sidenote: When it comes to give aways, it's important to specify what countries _specifically_ are, or are not, eligible. Laws and requirements can vary wildly, and can result in fines and stuff if the winner is in a country where the giveaway didn't conform to that countries laws. From what I remember, US, Canada, and Mexico, and the EU are vaguely similar, but Central/South America, Middle East, Asia, and the Oceania can be wildly different in some respects.

I'm familiar with the Guitars For Kids program here in Kitchener/Waterloo; they'd be pleased to accept a donation of a damaged guitar. They've usually got a guitar tech willing to donate time and expertise to repair the guitars they get, and the ones that can't be repaired are painted by students at local art schools, then auctioned as art at the annual fund raiser. I've donated several old guitars over the years, and played a set at their fund raiser in 2019. It did sound like you were reluctant to donate the guitar because of the damage, but if it's still lying around I'd reach out to them and see whether they'd like it. All Kudos to you for your perseverance on this, it seems that any good deed done in the world requires an awful pile of work, almost like the world isn't set up for good deeds.

Another winner, just two days after providing his shipping details was messaging me every day to ask where the book is - like I don't know dude, it was shipped via media mail and you'll get it in like a week or 10 days. Shipping companies "insurance" is the biggest scam. I built a computer for a friend who lives a few states over. He sent all the parts to my house and I built him a sweet rig with a custom watercooling loop etc. I paid a bunch extra to insure the computer for 4 grand, just in case. It arrived to him and appeared to have been thrown around like a basketball. Case was smashed and the graphics card broke in half (I even extra secured the graphics card with foam). I took pictures of it all right before putting it in the box. Surprise, FedEx denied my insurance claim, even though I could literally prove what they did to it.

Most giveaways have terms and conditions, one being that you need to be in a certain region to win the prize - which would have made sense here. Or, you could have just organised with the manufacturer to send you a demo unit which you then return to them once you're finished with your end of the marketing, the manfacturer then organises world wide shipping to the contest winner. The second situation with Canada Post is completely bs though.
