I was married to an American. We lasted 28 yrs of ups and downs before we went our separate ways. We moved back n forth between Malaysia and America a few times during the 28 yrs since neither wanted to permanently move to the other's home country. We separated on amicable note and we let our 2 kids decide where they wanted to stay. Our daughter ended up in Australia and son is working in Chicago where his dad is from. And Im happily spending my time in good ole Kuala Terengganu 🙂 I hope and pray the Kumaars will be together forever come what may. Love you two and the 2 boys.

I understand about the back and forth between both countries. That’s tough. One side has to always sacrifice. For now we choose US as our home. Thanks for sharing your beautiful story! You both are indeed blessed. My husband just asked me what I’m watching as I keep smiling (we’re enjoying some quiet time on our wedding anniversary today). Reminds me a lot of our cultural differences in the early years nearly 30 years ago… he’s from Europe, I’m Asian, and living in a third culture (US). We had plans on moving closer to my family when our kids were young but there was never a good time. If that’s your plan to move to Malaysia (even if it’s not permanent), I suggest do it soon while your boys are still young. God Bless!

I am a Malaysia born Cantonese. For my family and extended family, sitting down together to eat was expected when we were growing up. As working adults, due to work schedules , it was not easy to continue the tradition. But during weekends and public holidays, families still meet to have meals together. Our form of greeting in the growing years were ”have you eaten?” Logesh is right that in our culture, food is more than fuel.

So sweet. A really beautiful love story. My husband and I met in January, engaged in July, married in November. That was 30 years ago. We have some cultural difference, not anything like yours; but he is from the South, and I am North. Can't live everywhere, so either farther away from one family than the other. We live in the north and have gone south to visit several times. My husband does like the cooler weather in the north. His mom wasn't that welcoming. A lot of today is different from in the past. My family always had meals together, no one just ate on their own. My mom took care of everybody. That was standard decades ago.

You two are so cute together! Keep talking. Don’t let anything fester. We have been married 42 years, still drive each other crazy at times, but we talk things out. Also, choose your battles. Some things just aren’t worth getting upset about.

I loved hearing about your meeting and how the relationship grew. Now that I know Rachel visited Malaysia when she was just getting serious about Logesh, I'm all the more curious to know her impression of Malaysia. One thing I'm surprised though - Varanasi is not a rural place. It is an old city (previously called Benares) with over 1 million inhabitants. It is also a very holy place for the Hindus. But I can understand why Rachel was having a difficult time adjusting to her new environment. I wonder if she saw the Puja ceremonies by the Ganges River.
