If anyone had told me that I was going to sit here for 24 minutes, listening to, enjoying, and actually being fascinated by, someone else’s career history, work ethic and philosophy, I would have said they were absolutely INSANE! I’ve just been inspired by someone younger than both my children! Wonderful video thank you Roman! 🙂

I’m so happy that you’re at a place where you can pursue your craft full-time, and I hope to be there someday. Also, you inspired me to order my first camera (Fuji) and I’m excited to get it in next week! Cant wait to see what you do with this channel 👍

Two things that are going to lead to huge success that I see right off the bat: 1. You are extremely humble and 2. You are doing it out of passion and not for money. The money will come along with the success. Good luck from the US 🤙🏼

How do you "become a street photographer?" How do you even make money? Who are your clients? Who buys photos of random objects, vehicles, buildings and prople on the street?! - Additionally, who does it often enough for you to generate income from it?! I never understood how people makr money from street photography of all things...
@TENGUJAPON
3 жыл бұрын
Street photographers like Daniel Arnold make good money. I know some street photographers from NY who work sometimes with the NY Times. I think Trevor Wisecup has posted on Instagram his work for NY Times. Other street photographers like Brian Lloyd Duckett, Vinet Vohra and Rober Tomás do workshops, or publish books, sell prints, work with brands like Leica... There are a lot of options including making videos for KZitem and it's similar to being a musician nowadays.
@nogerboher5266
3 жыл бұрын
@@TENGUJAPON So basically it's a non consistent, risky field of work. I mostly do portraits, as well as motorsports, sports and events for a living, as much as I like street photography, it sounds like too big of a gamble for my liking. I need consistency, 100% assurance and guaranteed profit. Sounds like I would have to give up on all of the above for it.
@JJ_Photo
3 жыл бұрын
Well, almost none do. They earn money by being influensers on platforms like KZitem and Instagram. We live in a strange time and maybe a bit fictive world. But in all the competition on these platforms is getting high. So many wants to join the business.
@aloe_juice
3 жыл бұрын
I suppose one would purchase a photo/print, photobook, zine, etc., for the sake of artistic expression and aesthetic, rather than the practical reason of getting your portrait or life event such as a wedding or graduation photographed. Street photography is similar to being an artist in that way.
@aloe_juice
3 жыл бұрын
@michael True. I was just stating that people who consume street photography do so for reasons of aesthetic and that those people enjoy "photos of random objects," not as such but as art. My point wasn't about whether or not it was lucrative nor was I implying that artists make a lot of money.

So this brought back some memories for me. I had a business with friends and people were pulling in different directions. In the end, my mental health started to suffer (though I didn't) realise it at the time) and I decided to get the hell out of Dodge. I had personal bank guarantees which my co-directors gave me written assurances they had taken over. Turned out they hadn't and I spent 20+ years paying off a sum of money larger than you mentioned by working all hours in jobs I hated. The day I owed nothing was a great day. Now living in Thailand, 66 years old and making up for the "lost years". All the best in your venture, I'm thinking it will work out fine.

Lesson #1. No one seems to notice, or care when recording in the real world. I take extra care to find a quiet spot away from public, so I don't bother anyone. I'll set up my camera, stand in front of it, start talking then then someone just comes around the corner, looks at me, walks right in front of my frame, stops there for a while, before moving off 🙃 I'd say, I'm waiting around, more than I'm ever recording 🤣

Bro... I couldn't agree with you more about the office culture of people milking their time and just sitting around making themselves look busy to stretch their "work" out for a full 8 hours each day. I had a 9-5 office job for 2 years before I became a full-time wedding photographer, and my immediate boss sat me down once and criticized me for saying I could complete a project too quickly to his boss in a meeting we had. My boss was literally trying to coach me on how to waste time and stretch a 1-2 week long project over 3-4 months and how to make it look legit to his boss so we didn't have to do any real work. Ugh I hated it so much there! Cheers again from south Florida! 🤙🏼

Regarding JLR, you should have ignored what others did, because in every such company and public service, some 20% of people do 80% of the work. If you were paid for eight hours of work then you should do eight hours of work. Traditional motor manufacturers are going to get thrashed by Tesla and the Chinese precisely because they have a different work and management ethos. Not so much work for eight hours but work all the hours needed to get as much work done as possible, Tesla takes ten man hours to build a car. VW take thirty.

I don’t really get how you make a living being a professional street photographer. Who buys pictures of random strangers walking down the street caught in a shaft of light? I’m retired, on a full time open ended road trip so I’m not looking for a new career or to sell my photos. I just don’t get Street Photographer as a career. It sounds like harder work than the office job that ultimately liberated me in any case. I wish any pro photographer all the best in these uncertain times.
