I have installed the Akrapovic over axel pipes keeping the standard back box. No drone at highway speeds and a deeper sound. Really great mod.

Great video ....keep them coming. I. Installed Soul exhaust and at first love with the sound. But the drone at 2400 RPM really irritated me as subtle as it was. I felt this small vibration in the steering. I went back to stock and finally realized that aftermarket exhaust market exhausts mask the amazing sweet sound of the flat six. Next up for me is simple swap of air intake filters to BMC!

It's not due to the OPF filters. The 981 3.4L has the same drone from 1800-2400 in the stock exhaust and the drone goes wild when you put on an aftermarket exhaust.

You are heading towards my current setup, with the exception of the ECU tune that I don't need. With the OEM backbox it won't drone even with the valves opened the whole time , so you will be happy, and with valves closed it is completely quiet so your girlfriend would approve it for sure. I disagree with some of your conclusions though, the cargraphic Xpipe is the cause of the drone even with the akra OAP , that's a fact. With the setup your heading the sound will be crisp but I still miss the Xpipe flat 6 sound , that's why I'm planning trying the BCFabs (real Xpipe intersection) hoping to achieve the high pitched sound up high and no drone at low (like the OEM with opened valves).. wish me luck!

I have a '22 Cayman GTS 4.0 which i added Soul resonated OAP, BMC filters, CG valve controller, sound symposer delete. Overall very little drone over stock, but i feel like i need more. So i am considering adding the Soul muffler. I was considering the CG mufflers but there are 4 different models to choose from & since you already sold your CG muffler (the most aggressive racing one) in which you complained of the drone, i don't think i'll be considering the CG ones any longer. I'm in the USA, so i don't have to worry about an ECU tune. But i might consider an ECU tune with street headers in 3+ years after the warranty expires. Good luck with your future mods! P.S. I got the CG VC due to your review.

The reason these cars drone or don't drone is the rear section (muffler) coupled with the OEM operation of the valves. The valves always close from 2K til 4.5K rpm, even with PSE ON and that was done intentionally to control drone in those RPM . The OEM muffler is very restrictive but also quiets down the car considerably, taking care of most of the drone. Your plan to install OAP shouldn't drone but if you change the rear section it will. I had the Dundon setup on my 718 GT4 and with the OEM muffler it was Ok, no drone...I tried several aftermarket mufflers (Akra, Cargraphics, Soul, etc) with the Dundon setup with cats on the OAP ...all of them drone. If you do OAP and also change the muffler you will get drone....there's no way around it, at least with the aftermarket options available at the moment. One that I haven't tested but could be the perfect solution to the drone problem is the Kline system. They have resonators on the OAP and a decent size muffler. Soul and JCR now also have resonated OAP that could help minimize drone when coupled with a more aggressive muffler.

I have a 718 Cayman GTS 4.0 PDK 2021 with no performance mods as of yet (waiting for the warranty to expire first, just in case something odd should turn up before that...); the only mods so far are design oriented tweaks, but I'm definitely getting an ECU tune in order to unlock 440 HP / 440 NM (leaning towards Stertman for this), and with this tune there will be no need for a separate CG valve controller. Also, I'd be interested to hear more about the air intake filters you mounted as I have considered these myself. However, I'm a bit more concerned about doing exhaust mods on the car - soundwise I'm sure it would be great, but I don't want to run into problems with Bilbesiktingen (the Swedish Vehicle Inspection Authority for non-Swedish readers) in terms of not passing emissions... Before this car I had a Golf R with a Stage 2+ tune (420 HP / 580 NM) where I went with the full APR exhaust with race cats, but it turned out that I had to put back the original exhaust every time I had to pass emissions, and that was just too much of a hassle. If you just replace the backbox (like you had done before), this will of course not cause an issue, but if you replace the PPFs (petrol particle filters), have you looked into the risk of not passing emissions and having to switch back to the OEM PPFs every time you visit Bilbesiktningen? (For some this might be considered a minor issue, but for me I've reached the point where it's just too much time consuming logistics to be worth it, despite all the other advantages). I'm looking forward to seeing/hearing the results - best of luck! (PS. I believe you are in touch with my son who's become an excellent car photographer; we live nearby (Saltis), so if he will do a photo shoot of your car later on I might tag along :-).

As far as I know they just measure CO and HC, so unless you have fault codes or they do visual inspection they shouldn't fail you on the removal of the particle filter
@MW_SE
2 жыл бұрын
@@henr1k5 Thanks for your feedback. Won't the removal of the PPFs cause the CO/HC values to break the limit though? I obviously don't know *exactly* what the PPFs do in terms of exhaust filtering, but my fear is that they - just like when replacing the OEM cats with race cats - will cause these values to skyrocket... If anyone here in Sweden has removed the PPFs on this car (and replaced them with straight bypass pipes), I'd love to hear if they have been able to pass the inspections afterwards (given the car in question is at least three years old of course, and hence due for the first yearly inspection :-).

If your gf finds the sound overwhelming, I doubt she will enjoy the intake noise. I already went 2 times down the path of mods for 'better sound' and my conclusion, at the end is better back to stock and to an authentic factory sound. Not as loud, but better. My advice is stop with mods that may btw ruin your warranty, your insurance and your car. Try to enjoy what you have - a super nice spyder with a nice sound already and stop letting yourself be made a consumer always wanting more. You have a good car, spend your time and money making trips with your gf and enjoying it !!!

You guys will never learn. Porsche spends hundreds of millions so you don't run into these problems. Because when you travel 500-700+ miles a day, you want to have some fun and not be beat up with a BS exhaust note that kills you.
