“Dear Golf” and “Random Golf Club” are two remarkable foundations this game has always been missing. You gave the world not only an outlet to grow their experiences, but even better yet, an outlet to grow their experiences with each other. What you’ve started here will last long beyond us all, and we’ll be sure to always be there to help you see it through. You’re a good man, Erik, and an even greater ambassador to the game. Don’t ever stop doing what you know you’re being called to do. We’ll meet you on the tee box, my guy.

This video needs to be shown to every marketing professional working for a golf course and golf brand. This game is a community because you play your own game and we bond over the challenges that golf brings us. Before switching careers to advertising, I worked at a golf course for 15 years and your point about how so many courses treat golfers like they’re not welcome really hits home. It’s probably where most of the potential growth is bottlenecked because too often, the chore of keeping up pace on a course for the regulars distracts from the fact that the first time golfers paid the same amount to play. Even on public courses the regular patrons want to keep newcomers away from their weekly/daily tee times. Those first experiences with the game are critical for keeping the golf alive and healthy and those touch points are often ignored.

I’m 37 I started golfing at 32 natural lefty I hurt my shoulder about 3 months later. But I had fallen in love with the game. I hurt myself pretty bad. Enough that I can’t golf left handed. I sucked it up picked up a pair of right handed clubs an now a couple years later I shot 84 with the wrong hand an only teaching myself to golf. An im definitely not the stereo typical golfer. I have a 10in + beard covered from head to toe in tattoos. Yes face an head. I get a lot of looks but I could care less I love the game so much.

Always and always I loved watching golf on TV. But never really seriously golfed, didn't know how to swing a club and hated to make myself look foolish infront of other people. I had attended some golf events prior to but only to drink beer and drive the golf cart. This year my son started to play with a set of junior clubs we scored for free on the sidewalk. I wanted him to play some sports but every time he tried to play sports, soccer, hockey, basketball, etc..., he never enjoyed it and quit. But with golf, he never wanted to stop and for his 8th birthday we got him a golf lesson. And he literally bursted out crying of joy. Every time he went golfing, his face would lit up like I'd never seen before. I wanted to hang out with him when he was the happiest which happened to be on the course. So I took a few lessons and spent lots of time with him on the course this summer. It was great and now I am totally hooked. Here I am watching golf related contents on my spare time... Just a few days ago, I golfed with some strangers. I sucked but it was some of the best times I've had with strangers. EAL, loved this speech and your passion to grow this game. Keep up the good work.

Erik, I host a couple of golf days every year at the course where I am a member. The deal is anyone can play, any level of golf, all non members welcome. No scores unless you want to keep your own, we play in 4balls but mix up the groups when we can through out the round. The aim for me is to make everyone smile and meet another golfer to play with. Random golf club is what my ideal event is, all playing together, sharing stories and laughing. You learn more about golf playing with golfers. Keep it going. #randomgolfclub

I’m fairly new to golf (started 14 months ago) and have literally got the bug, ive been watching so much on KZitem whenever I’m not on the course and ive got to say Eric....... over the past 2 months of me looking through your content i can honestly say you are in inspiration to not only me but to golf itself. This has been one of the best videos I have seen and I’d have loved to have been there to whiteness this presentation. Keep up the good work Eric, I’d love to come play golf with you sometime and if i move over to the US from England I’d join as many “random golf club” days as possible.

It's cool to hear your view of spreading, the game. My wife and I went on a trip to N.Ireland and she got to see them setting up for the open. After watching she was inspired to go out to the driving range with me and start to learn the game. She's excited by it and now after watching the unofficial guide to Scotland videos together, we're planning another trip. So she's gone from never picking up a club to getting pumped for a trip to see the open in Scotland in 2021, and seeing the game bring someone that Joy has been awesome for me to see and made me love golf even more.

I also joined the game late and because of my older brother. I refused to accept it as anything other than an old man's pretentious game. He finally convinced me to go with him at the age of 33, with some nudging from my now fiancee. I was immediately addicted and have played well over 100 rounds with him now. I've had a lot of great memories and met a lot of great friends in the short time I've been playing and hope for decades more to come. Your videos are such a huge inspiration and I can never wait to watch when you post a new one. You are a refreshing addition to the game and the community. I can only hope that your message spreads and helps others find their way to this crazy, addictive lifestyle.

Erik, I discovered you videos and your love of golf a few months ago. At that point in time, I would now say that I was somewhat of an elitist snob when it came to golf. I had become absorbed in the game, but not in a good way. I would avoid playing with friends who weren't members of a nice club, who's skill level didn't match up to mine, or who were using old second-hand equipment to get around. The enjoyment of my round was directly effected by the quality of the course, the playing conditions, and my performance. I began to think of golf as something I had to do, not something I wanted to do. Since discovering your channel, I've become obsessed with your obsession. I began opening my eyes to new opportunities, people, and places. I played the old muni course by my house which I hadn't been to in ages. It was just as fun as any other round I've ever played. I broke out my old clubs which I loved so much as a beginner and beat to hell hitting just about everything but the ball. They still hold the same charm and joy that they brought me for years. I played with friends from work and elsewhere, who I would have never thought of playing with before. They made my rounds some that I will never forget. Your view of the game has helped to open my eyes, and for that I will be forever grateful. I've reimagined my passion for the game of golf and what it means to me, and I'm loving it now more than I have ever. So I guess all I can say is thank you. You don't know me, and you likely never will, but you've impacted the way I think about golf, and more than that, the way I think about life, possibly more than you will ever know. I appreciate you, and I know that these videos and your outlook will continue to influence me and the golfing community as long as you keep making them. The one golf rule that crosses my mind more than any other now, Rule 17b- Always laugh at the bad golf shots. Thanks, C

Thank you for what you are doing Erik, Golf desperately needs more people like you, who are intelligent and brave enough to challenge the status quo. I would love to be able to play in a RGC, but my "reason to play golf" is to get away from other people and to be able to escape into myself and the nature that surrounds me on a golf course. So, unfortunately, I would be the Guy bringing up the rear wondering where all the wildlife had gone.

Instead of „Dear Golf“ I would rather start my letter with „Dear Erik, thank you for your work and your inspiration! It was probably a year ago when I first watched one of your AIG videos and it made me pick up my clubs again after 15 years. I started playing golf as a summer alternative to ice hockey when I was 10 years old. And I loved it for a season or two. However, as you can imagine, the atmosphere at a golf club and the behavior of the „stereotypical golfer“ can be pretty intimidating for a ten-year-old. And when my best golf buddy, which I used kind of as a social protection every time we were on the course, quit golf because of time and money, I quit too. Biggest mistake ever, but it needed 15 years and a few of your AIG videos to realize that. So thank you! And thank you for promoting the idea that golf should be for everybody and even more fun and welcoming!“

Golf has the “not respected until respect is earned” mentality, needs to adopt a “respect until respect is lost” mentality, judge people on personality and character not on the number on their scorecard.

Jeez tough crowd, good talk Erik, can't help but think that a lot of the audience are in that mentality of 'other-ism' that makes golf feel so pretentious, and makes new golfers feel so unwelcome. Golf is such an interesting game, it's definitely one of the biggest examples of classism in sport, and yet it can be so much more. The feeling of making a good golf shot has to be one of the most satisfying feelings in sport. Random Golf Club is doing a really important thing by helping to define golf culture in a new way, one is more inclusive, and celebrates bringing people together, rather than pushing them apart.

I talked guys in my cigar group into giving it a go. Then more guys wanted in and more and now we have several guys who really want to play as often as possible, and some are obsessed like me. Some are taking lessons. We have a golf pro that we question and question and take lessons from. We have guys going crazy buying clubs on the internet and then buying replacements immediately. It’s a little crazy. This has been going on for about 18 months so far. Some have never played before. Some had played, but quit the game for 10 years. It’s funny to see guys desperately fishing balls out of the water like they’re panning for gold. I hope we can keep it going.
