I was vegan for 6 years and experienced all of the same problems. The main issue I see now is that when you are vegan you think:"This is awesome, it's helping me AND the animals, it's perfect!" But then, when you see signs it's NOT healthy for you, you are unable to see it because you don't want to give up this belief. Plus when you become vegan you do "research" but you don't notice that you only look for the answers you want to find, and block out all the rest.

Where do you think every bit of protein and every single nutrient in your meat, eggs or milk comes from? They all come from plants. There is not a single nutrient that any animal flesh has that plants don't. All nutrition you get from eating animals, the animal gets from plants. It doesn't make any sense at all to need a middle man, and that's what the animals are in this case. A vegan diet isn't deficient and wasn't the cause of you not feeling well. According to the 2016 statement by the acedamy of nutrition and dietetics (the largest agency for nutrition and dietetics in the world), well planned vegan diets are adequate and can even be beneficial for all stages of life, including infancy, old age and also for athletes. www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/27886704 You are delusional if you think that browsing youtube and clicking on some recommended videos is guaranteed or even likely to give you a somewhat accurate representation of reality. Doesn't matter if it's about people quitting their vegan lifestyle or something else. People who have issues (that they believe stem from their vegan diet) generally are more likely to give their take on something than people who don't. To suggest that something is obvious whilst not having a broad understanding of the science behind it is naive, dangerous and the reason why myths like "PrOtEin ThOuGh" haven't died out yet. Have you actually put any effort into research and can now support your half baked assumption for us? I almost forgot: What do you think of that alternative? Over half a million americans die of hearth diesease, our Nr. 1 killer, each year and somehow abstaining from eating corpses and drinking cow tit juice must be a problem, but that's not a thing for consuming foods which actually have been proven to increase our risk of chronic diesease.

Try adding fish first (pescatarian) then poultry next (pesca-pollotarian). You can stop there and reap all the benefits of a diet with animal products (B6 and B12, calcium, vitamin D, etc). Or you can continue and add limited amounts of red meat on occasion, but only sparingly.

The tribes in South Africa would thank the animals they hunted for giving them life, before they slaughtered it. They never over ate, and when observing us greedy people not of their tribe, eating breakfast lunch AND supper, they were flabbergasted. The issue isn't meat it's gluttony.

@@madhurabhaumik2139 Just think about all the animals that get killed anyway because auf grain cultivation and harvesting, insecticides and pesticides. Get yourself educated what a natural meadow looks like and what does happen to the biodiversity of plants and insects and all the bigger animals that need this diversity to survive. Vegans always argue that omnivores pet dogs and eat pigs and it's true that this is a strange thing. But isn't it strange to save pigs and kill insects and deer and rabbits instead? If you want to eat, something else has to die - that is how life works. You simply can't do anything against it. Try to eat local, seasonal and sustainable. Use everything you can from the animal that has to die. Don't support the food industry. Then you will definitely not be a bad or ignorant person. (sorry not an english native)

I think the largest threat of veganism is the greater risk for becoming diabetic due to the fact it's a very high carb diet. Those who are already insulin resistant and go on vegan diet are at high risk for heart disease. The science is very strong that the glycation and oxidation of LDL particles is the ROOT cause of coronary artery disease. What causes this process are spikes in blood sugar due to high carbohydrate consumption. This is why diabetics are at greater risk for heart disease. So not only are vegans placing themselves at high risk for developing metabolic syndrome (diabetes), they then are at risk for heart disease and many other inflammatory autoimmune diseases that come with inflammation of which the root of all this evil is the almighty carb!

You actually don't have to eat meat in order to feel better. The problem is, being vegan is extreme. Being a vegetarian is not. I've been a vegetarian for well over 10 years. I don't have any of these problems and I have perfect blood work. But when I DO try to go vegan, I feel as though I can't keep it up. Not having dairy, eggs, etc. is just TOO hard to keep up over a long period of time. THAT is why you started having problems! So what I'm saying is, you don't need to jump all the way from being vegan to eating meat! There IS a happy medium, and that is being vegetarian.

thank you so much for this! i’ve been vegan for the past two years after being vegetarian my whole life, and i went vegan purely for ethical reasons. however lately i’ve found that i feel like i’m restricting myself way too much and not letting myself eat what i want. after consuming dairy my whole life, i still get intense cravings for it as a vegan and it’s difficult for me to ignore those cravings and just suppress them, no matter how hard i try. i think my body is craving something with more fat and more calcium, and i feel like i should listen to my body and not put strict labels on myself and like you said, not put myself into a box where i have no room for flexibility. i think i am going to start eating more intuitively and eat what feels good and satiating for my body. this isn’t an easy decision for me to make and i still feel guilty that i would be contributing to the dairy industry, but i need to practice more self-compassion and not fully ignore my own desires.

wow, thanks for this video right now, years ago i was a meat eater, i was also bulimic (with ibs on top of it), i tried keto and failed, i tried everything and failed, kept going back to disordered eating, in 2018 i decided to become pescatarian, it was so easy for me to make that transition, it almost came natural being a huge seafood lover, a few months after that i decided for, many reasons, i wanted to go vegan (plant based), and i did! i was plant based for a year, and looking back it was a such a special year, i learned so much about myself and learned to treat myself better, i learned to CARE about my body, i became more mindful in every sense, but about a year in, i felt my mental health going down, i was binging again, becoming weight obsessed, i had a full blown mental breakdown, i was so obsessed with what people thought of me physically and morally it began to drive me insane, i made the choice to go back to eating dairy, fish, eggs. im currently at a point where im thinking of introducing meat back into my diet, i still have fear in my mind of what 'people will think' or what kind of person it will make me, i thrived on a plant based diet physically im not gonna lie, but i only did it for a year and mentally it went from these soaring highs to these crashing lows, guilt, bad behaviors, etc, i still have so much respect for vegans, i think its wonderful, but im just in such a different place than i was, who knows if its better for worse, my arms and legs are very thin, my hairline has started to thin, im just trying to be real with myself ya know, if something could help .. ya know. i just don't know.

But I respect anyone who eats meat obviously, there has to be a balance between how much we care for the impact our diets have on the environment and the impact it has on our bodies. You're absolutely right. These two are NOT synonymous for each other. You either are Vegan, which is the ethical idiology that animals are sentient beings that should not be exploited for our benefit, or you are not. There is no such thing as '85% Veganism' or sum like that. It really bothers me that influencers run around claiming to be Vegan just because they have a PB diet, then move away from their PB diet and ramble about how bad 'Veganism' was for them. You never were Vegan to begin with. She also literally confessed that she had a really bad diet (malnutrition). You can't just blindly move to another diet without somewhat of an idea how to get your essentials. But this applies to all diets. Sorry for that wall of text, just had to get that out.

I'm planning to start eating meat again after almost a decade of being a vegetarian. I'm terrified of it, I'm extremely anxious about it- but I have no other choice. I ended up in the hospital a month ago because of my critically low levels of iron and despite being anemic for ten years now this was the final straw for me, this time it SCARED me. My body literally can not cope with my eating choices, I'm destroying myself by being stubborn over something I definitely CAN control. I've decided I'm gonna start eating it again soon, very very soon. But I'm still terrified and I can't really talk with people in my life about it, because none of them actually understand my holdups. I'm scared, but this video helped me a little. So many people attempt attempts going vegan without even understanding How the human body work what vitamins and minerals they need and where to get that food from. My first attempt at Veganism went the same way, I got sick, but my second attempt has been better and I feel great. The reason because I’m more educated, my food choices are better. I have a variety in my diet, I consume all the necessary vitamins thru food, it’s not about just eating fruits and vegetables but knowing what fruits, vegetables nuts seeds, lentils beans, you need to help your body function. You have no data to support your statement only your own personal failure and people fail at it for different reasons. It’s not that’s it’s not sustainable, you just didn’t learn how to sustain it

Azn_Genetiks Azn_Genetiks right?? I used to think using only essential oils was the way to live. However after using extremely natural products, like toothpaste and skin care, I noticed my teeth starting to turn yellow and stain (no joke). I thought I was going crazy. My face also started breaking out in horrible pimples. I’ve NEVER had bad breakouts in my life. Finally I said this isn’t working for me. I switched to still natural toothpaste but ones that were sold on shelves (I use Tom’s now and love it). My teeth whitened right up. I switched back to basic CeraVe, dermatologist recommended skincare. My skin has never been better. People told me the zits were merely my skin “detoxing”, but having scars a year later shows that is not true. It was a bacterial breakout that caused my skin harm. I’m thankful that I’m now free from the “black and white” dichotomy of living. It’s good to be conscious and mindful of what we consume and put on our bodies, but if any one person or company tries to claim that ALL of their products are the ONLY healthy way to live, that’s usually a red flag. Some people can thrive based on vegan diets and supplements, but some people can't get enough nutrition based on supplements itself. Even when you drive down the road they have done scientific research showing the amount of bugs on the wind shield is lower then what it used to be in the 1920s we are about to experience the worlds biggest extension since the dinasours, and the United Nations is smarter then you or I they say meat is the number one problem the world has so get that through your selfish head. Never been Vegan, but I do want to start tracking down in my country, UK, where I can buy grass fed and humanely slaughtered meat. If the animal has had a decent life, respectfully treated and a calm, respectful, slaughter where no abuse or fear was caused then I fully support that kind of farming. The factory farming industry needs shutting down, not us quitting eating meat, starving ourselves is not the solution to animal welfare concerns. Here in the UK we have now far less slaughter houses and our government in Dec 2018 created a law to install CCTV cameras on all kill floors to stop the horrific abuse of animals from workers. This is yet to be fully implemented. It is really hard to find good organic farmers who have a reputable and ethical slaughter procedure, and to purchase their products. The meat on shelves in supermarkets is almost guaranteed to come with a risk that the animals were mass farmed, fed grain and probably had a really disturbing end to life. Sourcing good meat is my new mission because I will not starve myself or my children, incurring terrible health consequences in the name of an ethical diet. There is LOTS wrong with a vegan diet from carbon footprint to the horrendous health consequences. I believe in balance and think you did a great job with this video :)

Veganism is an Ideology and leaving an Ideology because of your own conclusions is something good. IF veganism was all about reducing exploitation and killing of "animals" then the human animal should be included and all those smartphones filled with blood gold and coltan manufactured in sweatshops would be boycotted by all vegans. What is good is living a plant based whole foods lifestyle. Don't make all your life choices an identity or ideology - that will only close down the thinking and perception and make you more judgemental.

Hey there, I related big time to your story. I was Vegan for 10 years, starting way back in 2010. But January 2021 I got off the vegan train as well, for health reasons. I was steadily gaining more weight on vegan and felt weak, hangry, and irritable a lot of my journey just from trying to find food and lack of variety in options when I did find vegan places to eat at. And not to mention spending more money per meal when out and about. Since getting off vegan life, I have found it easier to control my appetite and little to no feelings like hangry all the time. Dropped 17 pounds of body weight. Yes the vegan community here also was not the healthiest with lots of water fasting and smoking pot. I'm more on the athletic side, so I did vegan life for sports performance. But after retiring from bicycle racing and finding that my performance on vegan and being upper 30s in age was no longer working, I knew my vegan ride was going to be coming to an end very soon. This is actually the 1st time I'm telling anyone this, outside of my family. Only saying it here since your story is very relatable to mine. Wish you the best, moving forwards and appreciate the video. From a guy in Hawaii.

While I appreciate your video I am wondering why you feel the need to explain 'why you became a vegan' when we're just really clicking on your video to learn 'why you stopped being a vegan'. Why don't you first tell us why you stopped, then go in to your history of why you started? But actually the 'why you became vegan' isn't even necessary. Just explain why you stopped. Anyone who is clicking on your video really is just interested in why you quit. Yours is the 100th video of someone explaining first why they became a vegan. Why do people have to explain their whole story of how they became vegan and why, before getting to the point of the video, quitting veganism? The title says "why I stopped being vegan". That's why we click on the video. Why not just stick to that?

If they are deficient then they should eat more b12 rich foods. I don’t eat THAT much meat and I don’t have a B12 deficiency or any other vitamin deficiency for that matter. And if livestock aren’t getting B12 naturally for whatever reason then I’m not against supplementing. But it’s not ideal.

Wow. It's like we've been on a parallel journey. I was vegan from 2016 - 2017, purely from an ideological/sustainability standpoint. The revelations I've had in the years since were very similar to yours. I went full-on paleo for a bit and then eventually returned to grains and legumes once I learned how to soak them. Gave me (my gut) time to heal and I'm optimal once again, enjoying *cooked* vegetables and lots of fruit. The post-modern culture that permeates the west today suggests that we are primitive, but maybe that term doesn't deserve its negative connotation :) I totally get people wanting to transcend the death-gives-life paradigm and I will never judge or mock people for trying to become their greatest version while promoting a sustainable ecosystem and planet. I'm just not sure that veganism actually promotes those things! Somethings I learned: - Ruminants are mother earth's original fertilizers and are capable of restoring soil health thanks to the fermentation of grass in their elongated GI tracts. This begs the question: what is actually 'sustainable'? How could I be so misinformed despite so much research? Seems fairly rudimentary, but there's so much misinformation - maybe disinformation - out there - If a person has autoimmune issues, there's a good chance it has to do with *improperly prepared* grains and legumes. When consumed over long periods of time, these can cause leaky gut due to their antinutrient content. Goat milk is really excellent for leaky gut, which contributes to a very confused immune system and the creation of antibodies to everything. This is the area I have most personal experience with - Blood type may be a factor in a person's ability to convert "precursor nutrients" into vitamins, minerals, or fats (i.e. ALA -> EPA/DHA) - There isn't just a "dairy industry". Companies like Monsanto (now Bayer) are positioned to continue raking in BILLIONS as the plant-based lifestyle expands to a broader percentage of the population. The skepticism of the *entire* food industry AND the medical establishment are gravely important if we wish to survive as a species. At any rate, I thought this might be helpful or affirming. I also watched your "Decentralize Identity" video, which was deeply perceptive. I find a lot of comfort in seeing others self-edit, grow, and avoid externalizing all of the world's problems. We are an energy source in and of ourselves and energy is never created or destroyed, only transferred :) thanks for the wisdom. Peace to you!
