I had a '76 shortbed stepside with a 250/"3 on the tree." Drove it for years. I beefed up the rear springs, put sides on the bed and used it mostly for firewood. It would hold exactly 1/2 cord of wood. When I sold it, it had gone 250,000 miles on the original engine and transmission and was still a good runner and driver. I never had to add a drop of oil between the 3,000 mile oil changes. I sold it for $800 in 1993. That guy drove it for at least 5 more years before he sold it.

@@bluesxt I have a photo of that truck taken in the late-80's. I just found and subscribed to your channel so it will be easy to send it to you if I can find it. (It was NOT a pretty truck.😄But I drove it from Ohio to New Mexico that year with no issues.)

Wow! Just the 12MPG mileage alone would have stopped me. The insurance premiums would have been the coup de gras... I had a Lancia for my first car; it required thousands in maintenance, and I got rid of it after 9 months. Went without a car for a year or so (Europe makes that easy, lol) and waited until I turned 25 to get my first REAL car. I forgot how much fun that was. It got 26MPG on a bad day, and the insurance was more reasonable. Petrol was...and is...expensive in Germany.

@@bluesxt Indeed! The "bad fuel economy days" were the ones where I just matted the gas pedal on the Autobahn for a few hours, lol! The best of times and the worst of times!

1975 was the first year for the Silverado trim level. It replaced the previous Cheyenne Super trim level. Those generation Chevrolet & GMC fullsize pickups & SUVs were produced from 1973 through 1991 except in 1987, the half ton & three quarter ton plain cab pickups were done & in 1989, the one ton plain cab pickups were also done. Like the one ton plain cab pickups, the medium duty models which are the bigger size trucks with the same cab design but with a smaller size rear window were also produced from 1973 through 1989.

I daily drive a 1981 c10 right now since my car has been in the shop. Had it 3 years and its been a great truck. Its my secondary vehicle. I have not had any real problems with it except adjusting the valves they rattle from time to time which iv heard the fuel today with ethanol causes valve rattle. Currently needs body work i hope to get that done one day

Got me a c10 ‘85 suburban with 330k miles and for $1400 back in April. It’s been a great daily so far! Just oh my lord I agree the gas mileage is literal hell.. I commute 40 miles to work and back 5 days out of the week and I usually take it on road trips on the weekends.. I already put 10k miles on it and hasn’t gave me any issues beside a dirty needle and seat here and there, other than that solid trucks!

You sure do put some miles down. I just checked out your video on it, for $1400 I would have picked that up instantly too! Can you imagine the fuel mileage if you didn’t have overdrive? Haha

@@bluesxt oh cool! Yeah you got to see what I’m dealing with then. Yeah the overdrive was definitely a bonus! It’s probably getting 15 mpg at the most on the highway.. but it’s to fun to just not drive you know? 😆 definitely looking to invest in a crate motor and swap it to the NV3500 5 speed. I love this truck a ton it’s actually what I’ve been looking in a vehicle this whole time but I don’t want to get rid of it and I want to just make it more reliable because I feel like with the mileage I have all the drive train is just a ticking time bomb 😂. But I’d love to see more vids of yours! Subbed to the channel 😎

Been wanting a c10 to daily , I want a 5.3 swap, would the mpg be better ??
@bluesxt

A 5.3 LS would definitely get better gas mileage than a sbc 350. Especially if you go with a 700r4 as opposed to the th350

the cheaper insurance and cheaper maintainence would offset the cost of fuel. I daily a 1994 f-150 RCSB 4x4 5.0 5 speed and i get 19 mpg with it. plus its a lot cheaper to fix than a newer truck. without a car payment its half what I was paying a month to drive than my old 2016 vw jetta that got 47mpg.
