Yeah, let them do what they wanna do. As long as they don't push their weakness on others. Clear understandable words are always more powerful than any secret tongue. If they don't know what to say that doesn't mean that we should now only speak in tongues when we pray. To have a relationship with God is not to say a bunch of things we ourselves don't understand. We need to speak our mind clearly and tell God how we feel. No one is perfect. And even prophets are gonna push something that isn't according to the will of God in the Bible but may be a will of God at the moment. God allows deceiving spirit from time to time especially when we trust others to deliver a message to us. Maybe that person got caught up in the moment and spoke his own will unto you too. And maybe God wants you to speak in tongues when you are at your weakest moment. But that doesn't mean we should do it in our strongest moment. There we need to take charge and lead people with clear words.

The True Gospel for True Revival ! : Realize you are a sinner being sorry. Sin is lying, evil thoughts, lust, etc. Therefore, do not trust in your own works to go to heaven because you realize, being a sinner, you cannot offer the perfect blood sacrifice that God requires to pay for sin. Instead, believe, meaning fully trust, that in Christ's love for you, on the cross, His one perfect blood sacrifice; when Christ bled, suffered and died, in your place, paid for your sins in full, past, present and future ! Believe that Jesus rose from the dead ! Believe Jesus is God Almighty, God the Son, alive for evermore ! And believe that the sinless blood of Jesus Christ is what cleanses you from all sin, which purifies your soul ! Then the Lord Jesus will forgive you, save you from hell and give you eternal life, and you will be sealed with the Holy Spirit who will dwell within you forever ! And thank Jesus ! @@huios974Do not teach when you do not know. The scripture from Paul is very clear. 1 Cor 14:18-19 "I thank God that I speak in tongues more than all of you. But in the church I would rather speak five intelligible words to instruct others than ten thousand words in a tongue." - Paul So if in church during fellowship tongues are less important than clear words. Then the same also goes for ourselves when we need to do it for our own sake. That is just common sense and it is what Paul is basically saying. I didn't say you shouldn't speak in tongues. But that you shouldn't push it on people like it is some kind of a law. Especially since clear words are more important than tongues in the most cases. But what most people do when they go to church is they start speaking in tongues and nobody understands anything they are saying and nobody interprets them either. I have yet to see a single church that does what Paul had instructed them to do in that regard. So... that I can not defend. Therefore clear words have always more value than tongues.

I can remember hearing like you that I just had to "speak it out". I got to the point of faking at times, partly to be left alone, partly in hopes it would become real someday. When God opened my eyes to how false the things I was being taught were and ultimately drew me out of charismania, the feeling of less than began to fall away. It has taken years to unpack all the false teachings, but I have found going back to basics, back to His Word has helped so much. Very grateful. Really appreciate you addressing this.

I was raised in a charismatic, tongue speaking church. When I got old enough, I began to question much of what I had been exposed to in my church. I started to search and research the charismatic manifestations, along with the history of modern Pentecostalism and Charismatics. I still continue to this day to prayerfully research the Bible in order to properly use good hermeneutics and to exegetically read God's Word. My years of study and research have taught me that much of what I was exposed to in my charismatic church was based on complete misunderstanding and misinterpretation of the Bible. Also, religious tradition was to blame for much of the wrong doctrine I was taught in those years. This video of yours, I must say, is one of the best videos I have ever seen on how biblical tongues is totally misunderstood and misused in Pentecostal and charismatic churches. I had a very similar experience. I prayed, asking the LORD the same way you did. I was by myself at the time. As I was praying for it (having been told it was necessary as proof of belief) I felt a warmth rising up in me, I opened my mouth and indecipherable 'word/words' came out of my mouth. Immediately I felt Holy Spirit say Stop! So I did and I never asked for it again. Years later I was in a group of people who were praying in 'tongues' and laying hands over a woman who was experiencing headaches. Having been led by Holy Spirit, I waited on Him to direct me. I was prompted to stay sitting and to not participate but pray for 'them' instead. In the midst of it all, out of the blue, I began 'hearing' what 'their tongues' were saying. It was a curse and 'their' tongues were demonic and 'they' were placing a curse upon one of the woman praying there. Holy Spirit was prompting me to tell them to stop. But I feared 'man' - feared 'them' rejecting me so I just left and prayed about it all the way home. A few days later I heard that one of those woman had been rushed to hospital with serious head issues. The interesting thing that stays with me is this: Why the huge push for the gift of talking in tongues, yet little to no push for the gift of translation? Thank you for sharing this.

They thought I wasn't paying attention to the pastor but I was listening the entire time. When the pastor asked if anyone wanted to come and receive I just stood up and walked down all by myself without a word, which shocked my parents. I would avoid doing this if you do not speak a real language and dialect that is foreign to your own that could be interpreted. If you don't and are doing mambo jumbo syllables. Then you are attracting demons & the devil into your space. I can give an account that the Christians I've known who do this, from a personal standpoint. Have attracted a lot of problems into their personal lives and still do this, and don't listen when I've pointed how demonic this act actually is. Some have had dire consequences to their family members, children, and personal relationships. Record your tongues speech and play it back into google translator and see if it produces a coherent sentence. If it does, did it reproduce the message you intended while you were praying in tongues, or speaking about from thoughts in general? I guarantee it won't. The holy bible does make it clear, the gifts of the holy spirit won't happen again until the during/after the Tribulation period and only for the Jews. Right now, we are in the "Church Age" and we aren't to be blessed with those gifts. Anyone who says otherwise is of the devil. Right now, is the time to walk by faith, not by sight. We are fortunate to live in a time where faith is all we need to be saved. Keep it simple, and just keep living the best you can, despite your sinful mishaps. Jesus loves you and will always forgive you.

The first time I heard an example of "Speaking in tongues" after being saved from the New Age last year was in a video with Derek Prince talking about it, demonstrating it, and telling/commanding the audience to it. When I heard him "speak in tongues" I thought it sounded exactly like "Light Language", which is an obscure nonsensical stream of sounds and syllables which people in the New Age gnostic occult perform. They say that they're channeling or "downloading" this language from "higher dimensional beings" and that this "Language of Light" holds special healing "light codes". Since then, I've been extremely cautious of people who claim to be "speaking in tongues" - especially in public settings.

But he who prophesies speaks edification and exhortation and comfort to men. He who speaks in a tongue edifies himself, but he who prophesies edifies the church. My firstt experience of speaking in tongues was in a hotel room in northern Canada. I was flying out in the morning to a remote island to work and a boss that ridiculed my faith. I'd just spent the evening at a dead beat church sevice and knew i needed more of God to make it through the next month. I was desperate for God, and He showed up in my hotel room, filling me with a something like I'd never experienced before. Thats when I spoke in tongues. I've never doubted the validity of this experience. I don't use this gift publicly but whenever I interceed in earnest it just seems to express my hearts longing. My experience was with tongues was different. I went to the house of someone who was discipling me at the time, and she asked me if I'd ever wanted the gift of tongues (I had no Christian men available to me at the time. It was a very rough time in my life). I said yes, absolutely. First, she took an *hour* (seemed like an eternity) going through scripture about what tongues is, so on and so forth. Then after we were finished searching the scriptures, she said she would first pray for me, to receive the gift of tongues, first with her understanding, and then she'd begin praying in tongues. After she began praying in tongues, then I was to begin babbling nonsense. I was in my 20's at the time, so I just went ahead and did it. As I began babbling nonsense, it felt as if someone was standing on my right, blowing on my face (there was no one there) and the most beautiful language began to manifest - I mean, it BLOOMED. It had the syntax, the rhythm, and the emphases of a legitimate language being spoken with understanding. The woman told me to pray in tongues every time I got the chance. I took her advice literally, and I would pray in tongues every single day. Often times, t was as if the Lord was *dumping* prayers onto me as I spoke out. This whole time, it's always been about just spending time with the Lord. If he's in it, he's in it. If he's not he's not. If I regard sin in my heart, he will not hear my prayer, and I know I'm wasting my time. Since that time, the language that comes out is comprised of what seems to be a blend of Brazilian Portuguese, French, Spanish, Latin, Hebrew, and Greek - none of it I had any prior training in, all of it having biblical meaning, and attribution to the person of Jesus Christ. I guess you could call it a "script" of sorts. It's just what I speak as I feel led to pray. Once I start in, if the Lord has a tongue for me to speak as I pray, he gives it to me. I once ignorantly came into a prayer time with him, praying for missing and abused children, asking Him to go to battle for them. Started off in my normal tongues "script," and within a minute or two the entire dialect flipped to a language I'd never heard before, and I sounded like one of those people praying at the wailing wall. Absolutely none of the emotion was my own. It was like an imploring, or an intercession of sorts. I had absolutely no hand in it except to open my mouth. Only thing I know is that God puts a high premium on the heads of children, and if there is something he can use us for in prayer, I believe he does it. I dunno, I don't want to make it sound all weird. Tongues is very much something that's gotta be the Lord if it is to be authentic. It's not a magic wand, as many pentecostal churches have made it to be - nor is it some sort of bizarre new age incantation. It's an enablement by the Holy Spirit to partner with the Lord in something He's doing, and it can be a blessing that builds up your faith. It's a small little tool that, yes, is imparted supernaturally from the Lord to the believer who will receive it. There are counterfeits out there (Kenneth Copeland, to name one. He speaks blasphemes in babble), but we mustn't let the counterfeits discourage us from seeking the Lord for this gift if we truly want it. Satan is a master counterfeiter, and can enable those who are his to speak nonsense and blasphemes. But those of us in Christ can only be indwelled and influenced by the Holy Spirit Himself. If tongues seems awkward to you, or you don't want any part of it, then I say stay away. It's not something that can be contrived. Instead, it's got to be received as a gift/tool within the bonds of the covenant relationship one has with Christ.

There are times when we speak in tongues, this is where we get our breakthrough, this is where the battles are fought, where we take ground in our lives, with the Holy Spirits help. I can only speak about my own experience with tongues. I was at Bible college many moons ago and a few friends of mine prayed in tongues. When we had private prayer together they would sometimes pray in tongues but not at full volume or in any way to give some kind of prophesy. This stirred me up to seek tongues and I did so for many months. Then, one day, I went into the college library and a book caught my eye on praying in tongues. I took this as a 'sign' and so I took myself off to the prayer room and I prayed to God that if this was a gift that he wanted to give me then I would take that leap of faith and open my mouth. As I opened my mouth, a language came out and I felt a great leap/kick in my stomach. For at least a year, I did struggle about whether what I was saying was of God but as time went on, I became more confident that I was. I use it privately and especially when I feel I don't have the words to pray with. I agree with what you say Matt - that there is an order, which Paul is very clear on. My tongue is not as you demonstrated, or what you hear with these false teachers, e.g. babababa tadadada bobobobo... To end, my understanding is that we can speak in tongues in our own prayer time to God, and to only use it in the church if someone (or yourself) has an interpretation?

Diverse goes on to say that ” for no one understands him, but he utters mysteries in the spirit.” Again, the reason that it’s a “mystery” is simply because no one understands it; it’s a mystery to the very people the gift is supposed to be edifying. The Bible says nothing anywhere about tongues being some sort secret prayer language. In v14-15 the comparison between “my mind” and “my spirit” shows that Paul is not speaking of the Holy Spirit, but his own human spirit. The whole purpose of this passage is to describe the MISUSE of these gifts, and how it is dangerous and unfruitful.

I then just started repeating Jesus Christ over & over in my head because I felt like it was attacking my spirit whatever spirit came into the hall. Some time ago a friend relayed his experience. He brought a gentleman to church and tried not to sit near one of the members who spoke in tongues a lot. But somehow the person he was trying to avoid sat behind them. The guest stated the man behind him was speaking from his grandmothers Indian lamguage which in English translated, God loves you. Then I started to pray in tounges and suddenly I got the interpretation "I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world.". That´s from Matthew 28;20... This was in my regular prayer language I have received. Sure I do believe there is false toungues also but I believe in the word that if we ask Him He doesn´t give us a snake but gives us good gifts right. I received mine at home by myself... This is a bit long but I really want to just tell it all. At one point I was invited to a church (now this was over 10 years ago) by my sons teacher (we had just moved to the area) and on my first visit they started speaking in tongues. It was a fairly big church of around 500 in a high income area. I had NO IDEA what was happening! It was jarring to hear it. Deer in headlights was probably the look on my face. I had only been to Baptist and Methodist churches. But I kept going and they eventually got me to speak in tongues. The pastor touched my forehead and I just immediately began to speak. I learned that tongues is essential in a Pentecostal church. I did it and tried to get into it but never fully understood what I was doing. I remember one evening service was just tongues and at one point I laid my head on the alter and at the end of the service he told the congregation to keep walking and to not sit or sit by the alter. Well since I was the only one who had done that he was talking about me. I eventually grew to have mixed feelings about the pastor. He would boast about his big house and I have a story about that that has never sat well with me. I had been going to this church for a while and a lady who had no car at the time needed a ride and so I said sure. Sunday morning I picked her up in what was obviously low rent housing. In the sermon he was talking about what God has blessed him with and I still remember him describing his house to us. He even had a gym in the basement he never used. And all I could think about was how this lady who was clearly poor must feel hearing her pastor boast like this. It made me very angry. I never saw her again. Looking back it was a very strange church. He had security, dressed in black (think The Matrix) that spoke into secret microphones like the Secret Service. At the end of every service they would turn his huge truck on to cool it or heat it. You felt special to get to talk to him because there were so many people. He would walk around shaking hands like a politician. He was clearly pampered by the congregation and he really was treated like a celebrity. It seemed like He really loved God and he was always smiling. He seemed very sincere mostly. But it's clear that's what he wanted for a congregation doesn't act a certain way unless he sets up his church that way. He built this church from the beginning-it was his church. It was an odd 2 years there with lots of drama and cliques. I actually tried to continue speaking in tongues when we moved again (we were military) but I just came to realize that unless you put prayer behind it as you speak it's meaningless. Then of course there are the Scriptures you mentioned cautioning against. There were times that people would get up on stage and speak "from God". But I never saw anyone decipher tongues. It sure was a learning experience but now I attend an Evangelical church and a couple weeks ago the entire sermon was on how to evangelize biblically. Very refreshing to hear. I love that church. No frills, just Jesus and the Bible.

don't mistaken Pentecostalism with materialism and worldliness. the original Pentecostals were and are first seekers of holiness and spiritual Divine reality, they practice self-denial and simplicity. only later then, the American worldly spirit entered and affected some of the Pentecostal denominations in America, creating an Americanized materialistic 'gospel'. you will find so many Pentecostal pastors in third world countries (Asia, Latin America, Africa) who live humble, holy and simple lives, and manifest the power of the Holy Spirit in their ministries. you do NOT need the Holy Spirit if you live in the west in a sterile, relatively cozy environment. but you will desperately need to know and experience the power of the Holy Spirit if you face harsh situations, practicioners of witchcraft, satanism, black magic. be assured that these people don't care about your doctrine and theology, they are not afraid of that. they will only fear those who truly KNOW God and Christ and walking in the power of the Holy Spirit in reality.

Interesting that you brought it up today. I believed everything the churches taught about speaking tongues but when I tried in churches, it always felt forced, not a natural flow. The light bulb went on for me yesterday when I had bible story cartoons playing for my son. This one cartoon was teaching how the early church started which the believers were in the upper room and got baptized with tongues of fire above their heads. It wasn't until they got out of the upper room that they started to speak other languages, that were known to man. The light bulb moment was that the Holy Spirit shown a sign of wonder to the people outside of the room because the people there were from diverse regions of the earth and they had their mother languages, not the hebrew that was spoken in Jerusalem. The speaking of tongues was meant for those people so that they would believe in the messiah.

Thank you for covering this topic. I heard a messianic Rabbi, say that one can deceive with the gift of tongues. He goes on to describe where two people can scam a crowd with tongues. One interprets the other person for their personal gain. And to top it off, I had a friend say, “ I will not say amen to anything. I don’t know what I said.” Remember the adversary disguises himself as an angel of light. We are to test the spirits and there’s no way to test a mysterious gift of tongues. You can test a different known earthly language like the ones I spoke in Acts 2. The scripture doesn’t record.Yeshua speaking in an unknown language. Scripture doesn’t document the apostles, speaking in an unknown language. And no, where in the Tenach do they speak in a mysterious language. The scripture does not do things in a vacuum. The old connects with the new.

being a Messianic is not the standard for discerning Truth. I spent more than a decade in the Messianic movement, studying and doing Torah, etc. but sad to say, the Messianic movement (or Messianic Jewish) is really WEAK in missions and dealing with real life situations where you encounter agents of darkness (practicioner of witchcraft, black magic, satanism etc). you rarely find Messianic missionaries (I don't know of anyone) that reaches out to gangsters, drug-addicts, tribal groups and minister effectively in the power of the Holy Spirit. they only have religious knowledge, but they don't have the apostolic fire and passion of the first century apostolic assemblies. they have no idea how the Real Yeshua ministered to people.

I've never spoken in tongues. I was saved in the Methodist church long ago and speaking in tongues was never really addressed. And it never happened spontaneously. It wasn't discouraged. It just never happened. Because of this I've always held a skeptical view of this practice. I do not ridicule it. It has simply never been part of my saved experience. I too believe in the gifts of the spirit, but we are not all gifted in the same ways. The gifts of the spirit take many forms through many different people. Good message. Greetings from Kansas.

I know a traditional Lutheran woman who never knew or attended any charismatic or Pentecostal services, but received the gift of tongues while praying and communing with God in her morning devotion. in her mind she prayed in her native language (Indonesian) but her mouth/tongue spoke another language that she did not know. it was not some syllables that she repeated over and over (like what you commonly see in charismatic churches). she was fully conscious and aware when doing it, not like as if another personality has taken over her. this then spills over in family prayer time when all the members take turn praying, whenever it was her turn, she would just pray in Indonesian in her mind but spoke another language with her tongue. her husband and children noted this and were baffled. they told me that the languages were not the same, sometimes it would sound like Chinese, sometimes it would sound like some European language etc. at that time she had NO KNOWLEDGE whatsoever concerning the gifts of the Spirit, because the Lutheran church she attended is very ignorant concerning these matters. there are several other people like that, who were not members of Pentecostal or charismatic churches, but they received the gift of tongues and that becomes a permanent part of their spiritual life and brought many benefits, spiritually speaking.

My brother and I went to a revival. There were only a few ppl attending, and we knew them all, and that they all speak in tongues. At the altar call, my brother and I went down. We did not plan it, but God touched us and we began speaking tongues. We had no idea what we were praying about. After a very long time, we stopped bc the others wanted to lock up and go home. We were on a narrow, lonely road, with no street lights. There were very few cars on the road, none in our sight in our direction. We sang songs of praise as we went. Our thoughts were in sync. I was sitting in back and good view of him. I looked in the mirror and saw that he looked at same time, we saw headlights behind us, a long distance away. We continued to sing. When we looked in mirror again The car had closed the distance by half. Third look, they were a foot away ! There were 2 cars, one chasing the other. I turned and looked in the car ( I should have only seen blinding lights) but I saw a Blond haired lady Bathed in light emitting from above her head (no light bulb in such a place) I saw she was extremely afraid. As I turned fwd, we were hit. We both began praying in tongues! We kept going faster and faster trying to get away from them, but they hit us two more times. We saw a traffic light in the distance and wondered what we should do; then the cars went speeding past us. The woman was terrified, even so, when she saw cars and motorcycle waiting on the right side for light to change she slowed down to keep from involving them. Crash Boom, then they spun and spun, into the ditch. It is a miracle we all survived! We had been going over 100 mph! So this was a high speed crash. The blond woman had a broken back, everyone else was without injury. We realized we had been praying for God to protect us all. God knew there would be a crash but it was up to us to pray for help, and protection.

You are spot on....I have had a similar experience to you Matt and I no longer speak in tongues. I have expressed these same thoughts to other Christians and they think I have lost it. From my opinion I believe some feel they need to validate their faith and the presence of the Holy Spirit in their lives through a physical manifestation which is in my view is spiritual immaturity. I am not meaning to be harsh or think I am in any way spiritually superior at all but I do not need a physical manifestation to validate the holy spirits presence in my life or my faith.

Context of all scripture is known languages. 1 Corinthians 14 :2 needs to be interpreted in light of clear passages. I have had to learn that principle over the years. All scripture is God breathed, useful for teaching, rebuking, correction, and training in righteousness that the man of God may be throughly equipped for every good work. The reason I know is because over time I have heard several of the words I pray in messianic music and videos. I do not try to unravel everything I pray because if the Lord wants me to know he will give me the interpretation of it. Please understand that we must be very careful of what we call evil or satanic. If someone is just ignorant is one thing but to call what’s Holy to be evil is very dangerous. The Holy Spirit is real and is working all over the earth. Miracles, signs and wonders will increase greatly the darker society gets. Understand I’m not being critical of anyone. Even when I am by myself praying with God, His spirit over takes me with tongues as I submit myself to him. When the bible says "as the spirit gave them utterance" it isn't saying try to mimic or conjure up what you think tongues sound like and then speak that out. If you are truly submitted to God and want him to move in your life, as you pray to him and he begins to move, then your mouth will testify of his spirit inside of you through speaking of tongues. So yes its true that you should stop trying to speak in tongues of your own accord, but never stop letting God speak through you in tongues. "The tongue is the most unruly member of the body" (James 3:8) as the bible states, so it is no wonder why God chose the tongue to signify his spirit inside of us when we submit to him. If you are not speaking in tongues as he gives utterance, then you should ask yourself, or ask God rather, what have you not submitted, or how you can surrender to him. When that becomes clear and you surrender yourself, you will find yourself speaking in tongues. Remember, church is only one place to find God, you can also find him right in your room.

Suddenly my Malaysian friend began speaking and I didn't understand any of it, but my Iranian friend say 'wow you are speaking in Farsi!' and translated it, a Bible verse! My Malaysian friend didn't speak any Farsi and had no understanding of what she had said. That is speaking in tongues as it should be, for everyone's edification, translated by someone who is able to.

My family and I speak in tounges at home regularly. I rarely do it with anyone besides my family. The most I pray, I do privately. I remember starting out with just talking gibberish, because I saw my parents speak in tounges (actual tounges, big difference). It was repeating words and sentences. I have never had "a moment" where I know I recieved the gift of tounges. Nowadays, whenever I speak, as you said "I can feel gods presence". It feels like a force inside my bosom/belly area, a kind of tingling that flows up and out of my mouth. For me, speaking in tounges is a very private and intimate way to talk with god. This video has given me some doubts whether i actually have this gift. I can feel an alarm going off, whenever I heard you say that this is merely my imagination. This is because i can see clear positive results inside myself and on the people around me. I pray regularly in tounges for people I care about. It just works. Even though I got this feeling of doubt when watching this video, I can clearly say, it just works. I have never experienced a church do the full-blown "ya gotta speak in tounges" and I'm sure my opinion would be different if I had in the beginning. I can only recommend one thing. If you're gonna do it, do it privately. Do it for god, never for anyone else. 1 Corinthians 1:14 "I thank God that I speak in tongues more than all of you. But in the church I would rather speak five intelligible words to instruct others than ten thousand words in a tongue" This verse reminds me of me lol. In front of god, and also the family (but only for god). The Christian life is different for every person. Don't think you're missing out if you don't speak in tounges. Just make sure that Jesus is the top priority, no matter what.

I'm sorry for you folks who reject God's gift of tongues. You may not know it but I know first hand how much the devil hates tongues. he will fight you tooth and nails to try to convince you it's not for to today or whatever. He will make you doubt etc etc note the following scripture from Acts; 1And it came to pass, that, while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul having passed through the upper coasts came to Ephesus: and finding certain disciples, 2He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost. 3And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John's baptism. 4Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus. 5When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. 6And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied. 7And all the men were about twelve.

Thank you so much for making this video.!! I grew up in a church where I was encouraged to speak in tongues. I just couldn’t no matter how hard I tried . I was prayed over, anointed, “taught” how to do it. But couldn’t without feeling like it was fake. Eventually I faked it just to fit in. But then the guilt and shame took me over. I left the church. I am now walking daily with Jesus again. He’s using me. I really feel so many times that I’m filled with the Holy Spirit. Especially when he brings scripture to mind right when I need it or when I have peace or love when the circumstances are anything but peaceful. My later years with Christ have been good. I have a confidence that Jesus didn’t give me that gift, but he gave me other gifts. But hearing pastors preach that those who can’t speak haven’t fully yielded themselves to the Holy Spirit, or explaining it as it is the proof of your salvation, makes me worried for others who might leave their faith for the same reason. When I see a Spirit filled Christian like yourself say that they don’t speak in tongues, it makes me realize I’m not alone. And I too believe that the gift of tongues is a real gift that is still available today. I just think the extreme way it’s being taught is wrong. Thank you again! God bless! -Christa

When I was a teenager, my Christian friends and I would go street evangelizing. Before doing this, we would pray for God's blessing. One of us, Fitzroy, would pray in tongues with such fervor and passion that it left me, a non-Charismatic, thoroughly impressed and even pumped up about what we were about to do. Fitzroy later converted to Islam and changed his name. Point being that he had deluded himself into thinking he was speaking in tongues, his sincerity notwithstanding; just like so many others.

I grew up in an SDA church, aka no gifts, it was for the past in their view. They didn't even really believe in the Holy Spirit since they saw the Sabbath as the seal/sign. Anyways, I was reborn last year and later realized just how bad the SDA doctrine and history is. I've been looking for a new church as none of my friends are Christian and I really needed a family, but switching to a Sunday church... especially after I've seen so many prosperity, worldly, or blasphemous churches on KZitem, is scary and intimidating 😅. But earlier this year, a pastor at a newer church plan reached out since I play guitar and said on my profile I'm hoping to use my talents for God now. I did ask about theology and doctrine, and I agreed with the pastor's answers. The pastor invited me to some online bible studies before I came out, and they prayed in tongues right away so it was quite creepy, but the teaching was sound. I heard about tongues, but never actually heard or seen it personally. I did ask about that too, especially regarding an interpretor being present, but he defended it. I decided to check the church out anyways, especially since they would arrange a ride as it's far out of bus reach. If this is where God is leading me, I'd wanna be obedient and walk in faith. It doesn't have to be long-term anyways, it can just be for me to get comfortable with Sunday churches 🤷🏾♀️ Anyways, they always start their service with prayer mingled in tongues, and others would pray at the same time, but at least they don't preach in tongues or push it on me. Most of em are from Nigeria, whereas I'm born in Toronto and am from a Caribbean background, so I'm assuming it's more their culture and language than a gift, but they do seem genuine in their convictions. During a class, some were wondering why people were so skeptical of tongues and called it gibberish (I didn't bring it up). I shared my testimony as well and found out most of them were from Catholic backgrounds as well, so I assume that means most of them started speaking in tongues later in life, unless Nigerian Catholics speak in tongues as well. Regardless, I'm sure Jesus is coming back very VERY soon, so I'm happy to have a small community that's at least serious about the gospel and passionate about living for God in the meantime. There's no perfect church as they say. I'm open to experiences and gifts and such, having not been exposed to anything in the past. I know the red flags and have watched countless videos on fake tongues. I can't be peer pressured into faking it as I've never been one to follow the crowd. If they ever have an issue with me not doing it or I see it being pushed onto others, it'll definitely be my sign to leave, but if that's how they pray on their own and they can't help it when they pray together, then who am I to get in the way of that 🤷🏾♀️ Not defending it, I still think their approach is wrong, and as Paul said, visitors would think they're crazy, but if everyone is a genuine believer and that's how they worship, I wouldn't want to cause division over it. I loved the argue in the past, but God has changed my heart and I just have more love, grace, and patience towards others who may be deceived like I was 🙏🏾

you should study Acts 2 and observe : which of the apostles or disciples from the 120 who UNDERSTOOD that it was a HUMAN language ? NOT ONE OF THEM ! it was only because the Jews who came from diaspora (outside the land of Israel) mentioned that they were speaking in foreign human languages that they got to realize that. on the other hand, Jesus NEVER mentioned to the disciples before the Pentecost that the disciples would speak in unknown tongues, He only mentioned that they would receive POWER/DUNAMIS when the Holy Spirit would come upon them and that they would become His witnesses. so it is not the tongues itself that should become the point of debate but whether the one speaking in tongues truly receives POWER/DUNAMIS after they began to speak in tongues.

I don't know about anyone else but I asked God for tongues for years, but I would doubt and of course if you doubt, you're not going to get anything from God. A few years ago I was praying alone like always and as I prayed these other words would come out of my mouth, sometimes very boldly. I can stop it and pray in english and back and forth. We control it. Usually as I pray I usually start by thanking the Father for Jesus, basically John 3:16 then the Lord's prayer with additions about his will in my life etc and that I do his will. usually that's when it happens to me. By the way some say tongues is gibberish. I assure you what comes out of my mouth is not gibberish. I know positively it is a language, maybe more than one. Sometimes it's very strong .

Speaking in tongues as we know it today is simply gibberish. When the Bible mentions speaking in tongues it refers to the language of those in question which sounds foreign to others, as it is. Speaking “in tongues” is just non-sensible gibberish, not a noted foreign language. It’s used by those who wish to deceive others into thinking that the person in question is somehow “gifted”. This is an example of where the Bible has been distorted to suit a person’s own desires and preying on those who do not study scripture.

I was filled with the Holy Spirit with evidence of speaking in tongues as a young child. I didn’t know what was happening at 1st but the sweet presence of Jesus was so strong that I didn't want to stop. Speaking in tongues doesn't have to be interpreted. Sometimes it is personal private time spent with the Lord. You should never quench the spirit but if the words are simply made up by you, it is not of God and nobody should ever pretend to speak in tongues. However, never count Speaking in tongues as fake. This is a gift and anyone can be given this gift by asking God for it.

Also, Matt, what you described as your experience is not authentic speaking in tongues. If you consciously spoke it then it wasn’t from the spirit. Speaking in tongues flows subconsciously and you absolutely don’t direct it in any way. I’m sorry you had such a bad experience. I have had many of them and so do not participate…only in personal prayer time occasionally if I’m really distraught. God bless you and your ministry Please don’t call it a false belief/teaching due to a bad experience.

And have you noticed that the preacher's do...all say some of the same "words" or whatever,so it can be taught but it's not real if you need to be taught. The spiritual gifts are to be used many times in solice or with others present, there's supposed to be an interpreter with the gift of tounges. I do believe in spiritual gifts, all of them. I have one but I don't tell anyone about it, unless they are really close to me and pick it up and ask me, but I don't tell people for fear I'll loose my spiritual gift,or my gift I was born with or my talents. I went to a Pentecostal church and they told me if I dont speak in tongues than I am not saved and I did not believe that I went home and prayed to God and asked Him if this is true and He answered my prayer and brought me to 1st Corinthians chapter 13 and 14 and I read them and God showed me that not everyone gets the same gifts and what this church was teaching is not true, I stopped going to that church it seemed like a crazy house to me and the pastor called me and I told him what God showed me in the Scriptures about speaking in tongues and he told me he is not a theologian and I said something like you are the pastor and this you should know this and he was not happy!!! One time when I was at that church someone layed their hands on me and the woman had said the word (shatonge) and in Arabic that means the devil and Im like what is going on here these people dont even know what they are saying they could be speaking curses over people, that church was to much for me and in my area a sound bible based church is hard to find!!!! Very good explanation. It's no different than some people claiming that they can heal,or the crazy venomous snake churches! Special gifts were given to the disciples to further the spread of the Gospel. These problems arise because people take verses out of context and make them doctrine. The original scriptures have no numbering of verses or chapters. These were added to the Bible about 500 years ago to help people navigate through the scriptures.

Exactly. I was in a Pentecostal church, still consider myself Pentecostal, but the Bible says that there are diverse gifts. Mine is not tongues. I was told to just start uttering, like baby language. I did and they praised God. They told me to practice it at home when I pray, I did for a day or two and felt condemnation from the Lord. I told Him that it is up to Him. If he has it for me, I accept it. That has been 40 years and I still don’t have it. Sometimes when I feel a need to pray, like if somebody died or was in a peril, I will start the prayer and then just lift my spirit and praise and feel like I’m communicating with Him.

The Spiritual gift of tongues had a purpose. You see it in scripture on the day of Pentecost when people who had numerous dialects and languages all understood Peter perfectly---and wondered at it. An acquaintance of mine was giving us a worship thought years ago, and in it he included an anecdote about a missionary friend of his (yeah, friend of a friend). But this man was (if I'm remembering correctly) in the Philippines in the back back country and came across a group of people that he proceeded to share the good news of Christ with. A healing by God was also something that happened during his time with them. When he was ready to move on the people asked him how he came to know their language---and that was how he found out their talking together had all been in tongues.

no, it isn't rare. I know a traditional Lutheran woman who never knew or attended any charismatic or Pentecostal services, but received the gift of tongues while praying and communing with God in her morning devotion. in her mind she prayed in her native language (Indonesian) but her mouth/tongue spoke another language that she did not know. it was not some syllables that she repeated over and over (like what you commonly see in charismatic churches). she was fully conscious and aware when doing it, not like as if another person has taken over her. this then spills over in family prayer time when all the members take turn praying, wheneever it was her turn, she would just pray in Indonesian in her mind but spoke another language with her tongue. her husband and children noted this and were baffled. they told me that the languages were not the same, sometimes it would sound like Chinese, sometimes it would sound like some European language etc. at that time she had NO KNOWLEDGE whatsoever concerning the gifts of the Spirit, because the Lutheran church she attended is very ignorant concerning these matters. there are several other people like that, who were not members of Pentecostal or charismatic churches, but they received the gift of tongues and that becomes a permanent part of their spiritual life and brought many benefits, spiritually speaking.

I too asked for the gift of tongues and I received „tongues.“ I began speaking all by myself, my lips started being controlled by something else, I felt ecstatic feeling, crying and laughing, it was crazy. I felt uneasy, something was telling me „you’re getting possessed“ but I shook it off. Turns out it was a demonic tongue, at some point I started hissing like a snake and then I immediately knew something was off. I could close my lips and then it would stop. Now I suffer from what the world calls schizophrenia, demons have entered my body and I hear voices. It does not affect my walk with Christ (at first of course it did, but I learned to cope). However, it made me more sober now.

I have seen this gift in proper operation I believe. Where in quiet moments of a worship service someone starts shouting in tongues. Then the whole congregation waits quietly and sure enough another person has an interpretation in English. I have asked God for this gift 1000 times, always left disappointed, felt like He overlooks me. Advised to “just open my mouth “, “if I hear a syllable just keep repeating it over and over, then more will come”. But it never really sat quite right with me that God needs my help in this. I only desire it because I want as much of Him as I can get but I need to know it’s all him and not me pretending. Eventually I just dropped the whole thing because it’s not nice to live with such frustration. If it happens it happens. The same goes for being “slain in the Spirit” at an altar call. I’ve often wondered if those people are truly encountering the power of God to where they can’t stand, or is it a courtesy fall for the minister. I’ve had ministers practically push me. My heart loves God, and just wants the genuine Him.

For one who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God; for no one understands, BUT IN HIS SPIRIT he speaks mysteries. So where is it coming from “his spirit” not his mind. That is why Paul says “if I pray in a tongue my spirit prays” 1 Corinthians 14:14 “For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my mind is unfruitful.” This is making a clear distinction between praying with your mind or praying with the spirit. But like I’ve said I understand even though this is crystal clear I used to be blind to it also.
@lionoffireraw

“speaking not to men, but to God” - means that only God can understand I.e. it serves no purpose for the people in the church, without an interpreter (that’s the whole context). It’s saying this is a BAD thing, not a good thing! It’s not saying that it’s a prayer language. The bit about being unfruitful, simply means that the person is praying in the church (in the gift of tongues - another known human language), but it’s unfruitful in its intended purpose because no one understands it. --- The true gift of tongues exists (in another known human language), but the “tongues” that we see today in many churches is not biblical at all. I’ve demonstrated this definitively in this video. There is not a single instance in Scripture of “tongues” as a private prayer language. This form of tongues simply doesn’t exist, biblically, and is actually a 19th Century invention! kzitem.info/news/bejne/0Kx_rKB5hqWYpIIsi=LuxyVhyrKm2WTSlt

I had an experience like that it only happened three times and it was during prayer there was no other people around and it hurt spiritually it felt like I was begging God. It didn't edify it terrified. And when I went on to Google to see what it was I was saying it said that I was saying an ancient language of Moses calling out too I am that I am. I got up from my living room floor and woke my husband to show him what Google has said I was saying and I haven't had it happen since I think that God showed me something so I would not make a joke out of his gifts because it was right when I came to him. And even now when I think about it I cry because I don't know how to explain it properly but I will never play around with that not for anybody.

Thank you for speaking out about the false tongue that we see happening it a lot of churches today. I just want to point one thing out for you to consider. In 1 Cor 14:2 it is not talking about gibberish, but about one speaking in their own language. We must be careful not to acknowledge gibberish babbling as a language at all. So this verse would read like this : For he who speaks in his OWN LANGUAGE does not speak to men, but to God, for no one understands him....... So in the assembly you should speak the known languages of the people around you, otherwise, have an interpreter. Therefore, by doing that, you are prophesying, which means to edify, exhort and comfort by speaking and understandable language.... Blessings

Thank you for this video. While I cannot say categorically that the "gift of tongues" no longer exists I can say that for a period of approximately 1800 years it wasn't documented. If it was ocurring there would be documentation of it, especially before the Reformation as the RCC loved to document "out of the ordinary" things. I have heard, a few times, people "talk in tongues" and it was just gibberish and exactly how you described it. I asked them what did they say. One person, who wanted me to join their group, said if I was saved I would have understood it because it was the language of the Holy Spirit. I said the Biblical purpose of tongues was to communicate with the unsaved not to communicate with the already saved. They got really agitated when I asked them to translate their "tongues" into English. The outcome of the conversation was me being told I was a sinner, aren't we all?, and that without the "gift of tongues" I was bound for hell. I said gee thanks for that "good news" and left the conversation at that. Now when people are speaking gibberish I make it clear that it is gibberish and without anyone to translate (interpret) it it does not say anything to anyone. Jesus is the standard we should all aspire to. He didn't talk and pray in a gibberish tongue he talked and prayed in words people could understand. The Apostles spoke in tongues not to make an unintelligable noise but to spread the message of Christ so all could here and understand. Thank you again for this video.

Concerning speaking in tongues, I agree with this message. Without interpretation tongues appear foolish if spoken in church before unsaved. Even if saved this is controversial. I use tongues occasionally when I can't find in English the exact meaning of what my soul wants to say.

I pray in tongues quietly whenever I am assisting in a deliverance or my spirit man is praying when I don’t know what to pray in that moment. Tongues is very powerful when properly utilized, dangerous and confusing when abused I think you’re right about everyone speaking tongues out loud dangerous and unbiblical. Paul taught only one should speak in tongues and the other should interpret. But please don’t poo poo on the gift from God ”Pursue love, and desire spiritual gifts, but especially that you may prophesy. For he who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God, for no one understands him; however, in the spirit he speaks mysteries. But he who prophesies speaks edification and exhortation and comfort to men. He who speaks in a tongue edifies himself, but he who prophesies edifies the church. I wish you all spoke with tongues, but even more that you prophesied; for he who prophesies is greater than he who speaks with tongues, unless indeed he interprets, that the church may receive edification.“ I Corinthians 14:1-5 NKJV
