i feel like all your videos are for me! we come from the same ID program and i’m currently doing a UX Design internship! thinking about what skills are transferable from physical to digital design has come in handy a lot, and it’s great to know that employers value our unique skill set and background

I am an Industrial Design bachelors degree graduate. I never like doing that course which makes me spent 6 years in finishing that degree. I even continue my Masters Degree in Industrial Design doing full research study 1 year after that. Right now, I am a UIUX Designer. I personally think that Industrial Design is far harder than UIUX. I like the research & analytical side in UIUX design.. It's like playing puzzle. No matter what, I never regret taking ID because the skills that I got doing that degree are gold...

Hi Justeen, I am a furniture designer and I work as a senior designer in a high-end retail company. As far as ID jobs go, I have won the jackpot HOWEVER I feel frustrated a lot of the time and I hate CAD. I am considering switching to UX design but I will go into a junior position, and I wonder how long it will take to get a good job? Also with the recent Tech layoffs, I wonder if I should rather stay in furniture design.. would love to know your thoughts! Thanks!

Hii! Thanks for the question and reaching out! I'm a fan of furniture design and I did think about becoming one. I didn't like CAD either haha so I do feel you. A little big of future projection, I think with the recent AI advancement, CAD might become a lot easier over time. In terms of UX position, what do you mean by "getting a good job"? Transitioning into UX will likely put you in a junior position, yes. It all comes down to experience (and your portfolio). The more you have to show, the "better" UX job you will get for sure. Everywhere is looking for senior designers despite the layoffs. I think it comes down to what you are looking for and how much you are willing to go for it. The first few years jumping into a new field will for sure require a lot of hard work and learning because you are "catching up". If you really enjoy working in UX, it should be fine. That's how I transition from ID to UX in school and I had to learn everything (almost) myself. I talked about that in this video if you're interested: kzitem.info/news/bejne/qqBqsIqqhYadq6w Does that help? Let me know! Cheers!

Thanks for the informative video, I am in an ID programme thinking about doing UX too. Really relatable when you mentioned the fast iterations/gratification from digital designs 😀
