I like seeing the change, the downsizing. The secret truly is just being satisfied with what you have and knowing what you want. It was really nice to hear your thoughts on collecting as you cleaned and it also brought new perspective to me on people who collect. I'm truly glad to know you're doing well.

Hey, I found your channel on TikTok and followed it to live vicariously through you. I thought your collection was so cool! But I wasn't expecting to relate to you aside from the fandom aspect. For me, 2024 has been a terrible year. Pretty much every aspect of my life fell apart and I discovered danmei which acts as a good distraction. Thank you for sharing your story and your collections. I hope 2025 treats both of us kindly.

I feel like there is nothing wrong with collecting a lot or just collecting a few as long as it is making you happy and not making you drown. I also feel like its ok to really love and like something for a time being but then as you change and no longer feel the same its ok to sell or just put away. I feel like yoou don't have to restrict yourself from certain merch but I understand wanting to limit and save money

I've narrowed down my personal collection to just the Series that I like > the Characters that I like > Kind of merchandise that I like. My display box goes a bit like this: Pokemon > Oddish > Plushies only Frieren > Frieren and Fern > Figures only Xenosaga > KOS-MOS > Doll only Trust me when you let go of the pieces that you don't actually feel a connection with, you will feel much much better and lighter.

I liked the display I created with all the pieces I had, but it wasn’t helping with my shopping impulses lol it just felt like I had to continue to add to it so it can become bigger and grander which isn’t great for space and my wallet. I think it was starting to clutter my mind as well. I’ve been looking more and more into minimalism and liked the idea that if I had less things, I wouldn’t have to worry about the maintenance of all the items I owned. It was painful to take everything down last year and put into storage just to have a house renovation, and I had way less merch last year than this year, so that thought of “if I ever move homes, I would have to spend an entire week just to pack away my merch” brought on a headache lol. I was a bit sad when I took everything down, but I think the change to clear up some shelves brought me more clarity and relief.

I relate to your interests so much! I wish you all the best. I am almost 40 and been into bl for 15 yrs but just started my danmei book collection and I love thai Bl. I really really wish for the best for you mentally and financially. I only collect bl novels and mangas that I already know I like...so yes I cheat and read them for free then buy it if I loved it.

I'm deeply into collecting BL merch and books, from danmei, manhwa, and manga. My entire flat is just a museum of BL at this point, but seeing it all gives me such a dopamine rush I don't think I'll ever be able to stop, especially since reading BL has been my main hobby for like 15 years. It's hard when there's a merch drop for something I'm collecting nearly every day lol. Watching this is a little eye opening, so I'm glad KZitem recommended it to me. I can't imagine taking steps to go from collector to minimalist! There's a few series where I feel the urge to buy every single piece of merch of, and I'm trying to change that completionist attitude at least. Baby steps for me. Wishing you luck on your journey!

I have to limit myself on collecting or know it can get really out of hand. Like for music i really only buy merch from two artists and My doll collection i allow myself only one or two dolls from a series. I would love to have a giant collection, but living in an apartment also keeps me controlled in how big my collections can be 😅 its a delicate balance when collecting

I really want to collect at least all of the physical danmei books but they are so expensive like $30 for 1 volume in my country because I have to import them and it takes months for them to ship 😭 that’s why I choose to only buy my favorite ones like the last volume special editions, 2ha, YUWU and QJJ 😭 I know it’s really hard to control yourself but sometimes you have to do it 😅 sad to see your beautiful collection go but definitely happy to see you accepting the change and working on yourself 😊

At this point, I’m considering just getting the special edition volumes and getting the rest digitally to save space lol

Lots of people these days feel the need to buy as a hobby because consumerism is fun. But shopping regardless of the product to try to buy “happiness” leads nowhere, you’ll always want to buy more and create more waste. It’s important to get rid of the mindset of “if I have money I need to use it in something!” and buy things intentionally that you’ve specifically saved for, along with putting at least $10 aside each month to slowly start saving. Even having all those shelves can tempt you to buy more in order to fill them. Easier said than done but I’m sure it’ll be rewarding to see something in your room that you chose specifically and has a meaning or memory to it. I want to have a collection someday, but I’m very picky. If something is from my favorite series, I won’t get it if it doesn’t look good or if I can’t imagine where I’d put it in my apartment. Good luck!!

Same, I also became more and more picky over time with what I buy, but I’ve always been a collector of some sort since childhood because items brought me a sense of security when people didn’t. As I said in the video, people often came and went so fast in my life that I relied heavily on things because my stuff doesn’t go anywhere unless I want it to. I can’t control what people wanna do with their lives, so that’s partially why I sought out collections other than simply enjoying it for what it is. I’m currently at a point where I feel a great sense of relief after selling off my items, so the empty shelves look very pleasing after seeing a bunch of clutter for some time. It feels like a fresh start and I love it. And true, I also have set a goal of putting aside some money each month to help with the spending as well. I’d like to be able to buy experiences rather than just things all the time

Genuine question, if you have no job, are you just charging all this to a credit line? I am shocked to see such a massive collection including expensive items like plush, figures, and ball joint dolls which are EXTREMELY costly and someone to say they make less then minimum wage. I don’t mean to seem rude, I just feel anxious for you fi you truly aren’t employed and have thousands (?) of dollars worth of goods, if it is truly on a credit line, that is very very dangerous for your future credit unless it’s paid promptly… I hope you’ll be okay.

I can relate on the want to downsize. I'm so curious, what are the little storage bins/small shelf in your shelves? It looks like something I could use to elevate my acrylic stands and figurines.
