Accidentally hitting the crown happens when lifting weights or swinging a golf club. Wearing the crown in reverse prevents this from happening, too.

Love this! Thank you! I had not seen that setting. There is one other great reason for reverse crown orientation -- I sometimes unintentionally invoke Siri when I bend my wrist backwards. This happens most frequently when I work out and wear work-out gloves. No more of that with reverse crown!

@BenzoVodka

Yep. I'm sold on this orientation for the apple watch. I constantly hit the crown button with my wrist when cycling and just moving around, even with a bumper case on. Flipping the watch really reduced that a lot, and now the crown doesn't dig into my wrist when I flex my hand. I think that because of how easy it was to bump the crown, it also occasionally messed up my strava running workouts and commuter cycling workouts.

My IT professional daughter wears it as you do for much the same reasons and has since she got her series 1 soon after release. I am more traditional, however, and perhaps just to lazy to swap it around. It hasn't been a problem. Good to have choice.

I also wear my series 2 the same way. But I do it for working out and lifting weights. If i would wear it the way you call traditional . When I do push ups , pull ups or bench press I would push the crown in and it would make the watch do something I didn't want it to. Because the back of my hand would push on the the crown when my wrist was pushed backwards. I also think it would put excessive pressure on the crown . Which I think would possible damage the button or lose the water resistance.
@iamfernandob

If you're wearing the watch in a way that the back of your hand can touch the crown your wrist is either broken or you wear your watch way up on your wrist which isn't how a watch is supposed to be worn. I just did pushups to test this and my hand doesn't come anywhere close to touching the crown. :-|

My husband recently gifted me with an apple watch. First thing I asked him since I wear the watch on my left wrist was can you make the screen turn so I can have the buttons facing me? He said absolutely! I didn't realize this was an issue for people. It is most comfortable for me for the same reasons you mentioned. I don't like the knobs touching my hand and feel like they are protected by have them towards me as you showed in the video! ;-) Your video popped up after searching what is red dot on watch... nice video!

I'm kind of weirdo too :-) I'm right handed, but for ages used to wear any watch on my right hand. People wearing Apple Watch on right hand usually wear it with crown on the right side to reach the crown with left thumb. Well, my crown is on the left side and somehow it felt right and natural for me from the beginning :-)

One thing against this is that the power button is harder to reach and press, since the crown sticks out more your thumb would not be able to reach around the crown to hit the power button. You’d be hooking it with index finger which would twist the watch to the right. So either way you have this imbalance due to both buttons being on the same side. Although to be fair I tend to press crown more often so your way does provide more stability over all.

I wear my watch like this too... I find it easier too use, also whenever I wash my hands I’m less scared of getting water into the device. As, with my old Series 0, water got into the Digital Crown and/or the Bruno and ruined the watch. Omg I never even considered all this... I’m a nursing assistant at a nursing home & work on the dementia (partially psych) unit & having the speaker facing away from my hand makes it less likely to get a patients poop or something lodged into it & it’s also less likely to get waterlogged although I do have the series 2 it’s just not ideal to have to lock & unlock it before & after I do anything especially w/ combative patients sometimes time & circumstances don’t allow me the chance to lock it & all that! But this was a neat video! I didn’t realize it could still be worn w/ wrist splints... I supposedly have bilateral carpal tunnel & I haven’t worn my splints for a while cause I feel lost w/out my watch on!

I've started wearing mine in left side crown orientation recently and I'm still getting used to it. I switched because I have fat girl arms but normal human wrists so my watch sits to where if I have my hand bent upwards as if I'm carrying something or working out, the back of my hand presses against the crown and activates Siri. I also coach roller derby and I think most of my skaters take their apple watches off at practice. I'll have to mention this benefit to them.
