There are scammers everywhere and people should be cautious, but definitely there's worse places than others, people takes vacation trips with the intention to relax and unwind, not to be harassed and be on alert mode🚩🚨🚩100% of the time, constantly looking upon your shoulder to avoid malicious people from ripping you off all time. In that case people would rather find a better destination where they can relax and spend their time and money. Scammers are not joke or a silly matter, they're really hurting tourism and giving a bad reputation to the country, and is such a shame because Türkiye is a very beautiful county with a rich culture and history.

He then said "I would love to speak about your travels, why don't we go for a drink?". Me like a clown followed him to a busy restaurant. He said it's his friends so we can go sit upstairs on balcony. We were the only ones up there. Next food starts to arrive. I told them "I don't want any food as I've eaten". This guy scoffed loads and more drinks and food kept coming. I told them to stop but they just kept bringing. This git then went off to toilet and never returned. The waiter then brings me a bill for €175!! I refused to pay it but within minutes I'm surrounded by four of them from the restaurant who are now threatening me. Not even some general guidance on what to do or any sense of wanting to help out whatsoever.. Of course I heard of sexual harassment in Rome and i totally understand you, it must be exhausting walking through the centre alone😓. What I never heard it’s the nightclub scam where someone literally pulls you into a bar and charge and astronomical bill at the end.

I am very sorry to hear what you went through in Istanbul. FYI: the ticket machines are multi-lingual. You probably needed to fiddle with the machine a few seconds longer. As far as the taxi situation is concerned, you should be canonized for being able to hail a cab and make it stop! Unless you are a tourist (especially of Middle Eastern appearance) they will not pick up locals or ask them where they are going and if they do not like the destination they might even say they are booked or they are not working. It is a Istanbul-wide disaster and the Istanbul mayor has been fighting hard against this but his hands are tied by the majority of the conservatives and nationalists in the municipal council and the transportation committee. There are certain figure that dominate and manipulate the taxi sector in Istanbul. It is absolutely awful. BTW: not far from Taksim square is the home to the small indigenous Italian community of Istanbul with churches and schools etc. So you may have been scammed by someone from this community or someone who went to the Italian School =) And the rule of thumb: you do not go to night clubs in Eastern Europe and beyond up until Japan on the Eurasian land mass =)) Anyway, I hope you go back to Istanbul With that kind of experience you have had, you'll have a more enjoyable trip. Good luck matey. N.B. Istanbul is not the capital city of Turkey. It is Ankara....

Unfortunately I couldnt sleep one night so I figured I would take a walk alone, I met 2 really friendly turkish guys and after some convincing I join them to the great bar. I was very lucky, I weared a very expensive watch and some jewelry that they probably thought was fake. Also when I had to pay I was able to get away (not easy at all + I paid around 200 USD, "bill" was over 2000). I still think turkey is great, area around mediterranean ocean is GREAT! Almost no scammers and super helpful people. Only thing to watch out for in this area is not to overpay in tourist shops 😂

I live in Istanbul as an international uni stud I'm in a love hate relationship with this city lol It's a beautiful city but very scammy sometimes towards international people or very rude(Immigration offices banks and facilities only most turks are kind) It's on the other hand a very beautiful modern city and transportation totally rocks On the other hand... wtf is with the prices of house rent here?? As for tourist scams well... they are not just for turks but for yabancıs(foreigners in general) 1_Yes the first one really happens strongly happened to me 2 2_There are also flower givers gypsies that are scamful too 3_OMG one of my biggest problems in Istanbul! Taxis are scammers af and uber drivers are sometimes so rude af! Thank God for Istanbul university student free istanbul cart! 4_As Taksim restaurant's literrally to that point I always take pictures of the menu prior in order for them to not charge me more after it! also they may bring additional stuffs that are NOT with ur food and there just to get more moeny from u no change is very common and by the way even kfc is scammy in Taksim! 5_PERSONAL ADVICE:90% of strangers you see in the street are not kind for u just cause, if you were approached by a stranger trying to talk amd be nice and taking u to some bars, He or she is just wanting to scam u at the end u have to pay lots of money 6_By the way mot just nightclubs but bars can scam u(They say for example this amount of money remained while you paid completely in order for u to pay more) Personal experience note: I don't mind Turks as I said I think they are nice but even aside many scams of turkey even its people can be hella scammy and so money oriented by personal experience!
