I’m Haïtian and these are the avocados we eat back home in Haïti. My grandmas even have avocado trees and give them to us when avocados are in season! These are way better than the small ones in my opinion. They’re somewhat sweet and creamier. That entirely depends on when it's harvested, if you harvest them too early, they're watery and bland, and almost every batch sent to export from our region ends up getting that. Where Haas travels better. If you get them from the tree like we do, it's much stronger flavor cuz we can let them ripen to the point where you just touch them and they'll pop off. Same thing applies to texture. If you let them overripen, they go stringy and icky and they'll overripen in all of 2 blinks and a KZitem commercial break 😩 one minute you cant get any let when you touch the skin around the stem break, next minute, soppy, soggy ruination.

They are completely different. The large ones have next to no flavor and is sweeter. Hass is fantastic. I learned the hard way when I made deluxe bagel sandwiches for my mom's birthday. I trashed more than half of it.

Well, did you get them from here because they’re really hard to find but actually are good as somebody that has had a tree in their home country. They do have an actual taste other than sweet they taste very good. The ones here just he’s kind of water really is not that great. They go bad a lot faster to. I think the climate it’s just not me to sustain them very well.

The “Dominican avocado” is eaten in many places I see it a lot in Puerto Rico when i go to see my grandparents and it’s not really sold in the United States that much so my grandparents always ship one here from Puerto Rico for my family to eat

I think she called it Dominican because is imported from there, but it’s a tropical avocado, so it comes from the Caribbean islands, that includes Cuba, Jamaica, Haiti and Puerto Rico 😅. Remember that all these islands where home to arawaks taínos and we have pretty similar cultures and foods

Unlike Puerto Rico Dominican Republic produced their own food and are self independent while Puerto Rico relies on the US and imports. I remember going to local grocery stores in PR and all the food was produce somewhere else. Lots of imports from Dominican Republic.

Besides being unripe tropical avocados are a lot softer. Wayyy different consistency and probably not what you want for sushi. You also wouldnt really make guacamole with it different avos have different purposes also thats a small avocado for the tropics haha

There is a reason the Hass avocado is #1. I bought several different types in the Philippines, and all of them were watery and tasteless. I spent more money on the Hass variety. I guess that is why Filipinos make smoothies from their avocados, because of the water content.

There are many types of avocado. The Dominican one with its yellow color is probably more sweet and watery. I've even had avocados that border on crunchy. But the best are the ones with creamy, buttery textures like the Haas. In Peru we have a type called "palta fuerte," which means strong avocado. They can keep for 2 or 3 weeks in the fridge! And they have the best texture and taste too!
