It's never occurred to me that the angle of a tom mic would impact the amount of overtones and attack getting picked up. Thank you for that!

Only thing I wish was included in this was a comparison of mic bleed, especially Hi-Hat bleed and including a SM57 as reference. Aside from that, great review, really enjoyed the mic placement demonstrations.

V Beats and V7X are the same capsule btw so clamp bleed aside, use them interchangeabley. I love my sE8s and my old sE1As but I've heard people do amazing things with sE7s so now would like a pair. Would be great in a venue where you don't need the top end so much.

This is the second time I realized a hype over drum mics. A few years ago suddenly every big youtube drummer started using earthworks microphones. And now its these mics ;-) I really dig the EQ options of the kick mic and also the low profile of the v-beats. Great mics and great review!

Man, when EV stopped making the N/D767a I was so disappointed (but I still have my one and only available if needed). When I started looking for mics for our band I came across the sE V7. I now have them in our practice room and on the band trailer. The supercardiod pattern along with proper gain staging lead to a super nice signal without much bleeding (very minimal to no gate needed). Nice demo and singing. Have a blast! Now I want their drum mics 😋

Cool, subbed! one critical detail tho..off axis rejection..i hear they're pretty good in this aspect, possibly down to a tight cardioid and SPL response. Really dig the kick drum mic, tho I'm still on the fence with the AKG D12VR, tried one, an active beast!

they are good mics.. just remember that v-beat and v7x are the same sound wise. 100%. Same capsule and electronics. So if you like to save 50% on the tom mics, and have space for the larger body, then just buy v7x for toms.
@EdThorne

Same capsule but I believe they've been set-up differently to cater for higher SPL levels, which creates a slightly different sound. I haven't A/B'd them though.

@@EdThorne @EdThorne i don't know the pricing as of now sir, how much is the price difference for both of them. Audix dp7, Sennheiser e600 series, and in this video the SE. So many options right now with the technology evolving. And these 3 brands are my top of the list for now when it comes to drum mics. Maybe i should go for the audix or sennheiser bass drum mics, and the rest is just the option of what is cheaper of the three, coz they are almost the same on the upper kit like toms etc, except for that bass drum, the d6 and e602 is i prefer. Thanks.

Surprised you are not using a bass drums best friend, an Evan bass drum pad with a hinged portion that comes off the batter head when you hit the bass drum. Greatest affordable drum hack on the market.

Overpriced Chinese product. Have seen them fail on people in live sound time and time again. Go buy a few se v7s and they’ll all sound different. Pray sweat doesn’t get into them. Moneys better spent on industry standards that’ll stand the test of time. It’s the flavour of the month just like Audix was, just like Heil was, etc. An sm57 is the most ubiquitous mic of all time. These are a fad that were cheap and have now gone up in price.
