“The biggest true pandemic is loneliness”Is it really difficult for men to communicate?
As our ways of thinking and interactions become more inward looking, it could potentially involve a flip side. So it helps to remember that mental health is a universal human experience and almost always a work in progress.
A majority of men are not instinctively attuned to conversations around personal change, but Devi Mani - founder of Skooc, a health tech start-up focussed on children's health and well being - thinks they are more willing to take part in them beyond our perception.
One of the striking parts of my conversation with Devi was when she spoke about evolving priorities between career, marriage and children. The takeaway: When we acknowledge and accept that in different life stages, we have priorities that need to keep changing. Especially as women (with double burdens), it is more important than ever to assert when we need change and support to "balance" our priorities. It's time we held those involved in building lives with us, the men, to join in and to step up
Do men in your family talk about their fears and assumptions, are conversations normalised for them?
