I submitted to Blue Cat for the first time this year, and it was hands down the BEST feedback I got on my script to any other competition.

I submitted two scripts to bluecat last year. I didn't place but in regards to the feedback I received, one was favorable with a few suggestions, the second was harsh...and I was mad. Reading that coverage a year later, I see both were right. Now knowing what I know, I would definitely submit a different screenplay to bluecat just for the coverage, and if I win, great!

I love the transparency of this. The thought that you'd pay and submit your beloved screenplay to not get any evidence that it had even been read is disturbing. This comp is def top of my list... Well, you know, along with the Nichols and Big Break.

I am an aspiring writer who wants to break in and many works under my belt - saving blue cat to my documents. Competitions are an avenue I was looking at pursuing.

is there anything similar for book writers? this system sounds extremely tempting but I'm writing with screen thoughts in book format.

in 2021 PAGE gave me 9 pages of feedback. They judge was amazing. I re-wrote the screenplay and it is 1000% better now. I hired a professional screenplay editor for $4000.00 to convert to industry standard. I will enter 15 contests in 2022.

I've always wondered why winners never sell that script. there's a disconnect there.

GREAT QUESTION. Blue Cat is one of those competitions where the scripts they choose lack commercial potential. Same thing with Nicholls. Also, studios and production companies are very finicky and subjective. So you can have the greatest script in the world and it not get made. Hollywood is a very finicky industry where luck plays just as an important part as talent and skill. Sad part, the most talented almost never get recognized. Because if they were recognized, we’d have better movies.

It's still a good way to get quite okay feedback I guess...

@@cadenadelreino1442 actually no. Coverage feedback is never accurate or realistic.

@@gianthills But where do you get that good feedback from then?
@gianthills

@@cadenadelreino1442 I don't bother anymore. You get to the point where you can judge your own work. Years ago I had coverage done, and in both cases I received good to very good ratings and remarks with "recommends", but when I got a meeting with a producer I realized that those ratings were inflated, which did more damage than good because I thought I was on the right track when I wasn't and probably wasted two years because of it.

3:15 - I know exactly what he means - Austin Film Festival, yes that main one, gave me one of the worst feedback coz the moronic reader clearly just read only a few pages and based his comments on all that without getting into any detail and just repeated his same points over and over with different words and wat he said was just generic nonsense anyone can find on google/ 101 script tips. In the industry it makes sense to read only the first few pages but I'm actually paying $100 to be read, I expect to be read! He couldn't even count FFS! You'd think for a prestige contest they'd get pros but this loser was clearly drafted off the streets due to some typical 'No experience required' ad as just coz the contest was clearly so short of manpower with their submission piles. The other really annoying thing is these readers are anonymous so you can't ever complain/ write back to them so for all the contest-admins know, they're all doing a good job.
